Meet the Business Owner
Nechama L.
Business Owner
Nechama Levy, bicycle mechanic and owner of Bicycle Roots, is a life-long resident of NYC. She began commuting by bike following the 2005 transit strike.
In 2008, while riding near the Atlantic Terminal, Nechama was run over by a sanitation truck, which left her wheelchair bound for six weeks. The experience was a catalyst to pursue a new course in life. She quit her job, applying to the mechanic certification program at Oregon’s United Bicycle Institute.
Over the next few years, Nechama practiced her new profession at a number of NYC bike shops. Yet, she was dissatisfied with the products and services offered at each. It seemed that no shop in the New York could really offer a great experience to the average customer.
Cycling changes lives. It helps to have the right source for bikes, gear, and know-how. Bicycle Roots doesn’t exist to promote a subculture or a clique. Nechama’s motto is: «You can do whatever you want, but if you want to do it on a bike, I can help.»
