Boro Park Ob/Gyn

No stars. Do not go here for quality care. Every visit here I leave dissatisfied. Doctors /​midwives will have you wait no led than 45 minutes for a 4minute visit .On my insurance claim they charge for 30 minute to 1 hour consultation.
I’m a young married woman, seeking to have a child. Every visit I am asked same question: if I am married, if I am sexually active do I have children. A quick peruse of my chart would provide that information. 2 years every visit I ask about my fertility. When I had miscarriage they were cold and distant.
Today I was 20 minutes late for an appointment, although the office closes at 2p doctor left at 1:30p when my appointment was at 1:20p. This just goes to show how much time she planned to spend on my ER follow up visit!!! I missed a day of work because it was urgent I see her.
I have always been gracious thinking this is the way it is doctors just have it hard but as an RN myself I realize patients deserve way more than what the greed of some doctors will allow. There are ways to strike balance and care for the patient they way you’re ethically bound and make a living.
There is no regard for the individual here, you are just a reimbursement amount.
I’m leaving this practice I’m tired of this abuse. I hope I find compassion and caring elsewhere.

If I could give the Newkirk Avenue location zero stars, I would!!! This place should not be in business! Shut it down! They are absolutely disgusting! I was once a patient of theirs… but no more! I am writing this review because after having learned about the treatment that a young cousin of mine received is beyond shocking! She was so shaken, she left in tears! The chop-​shop joke of a sonographer that they have at this location should not be called, much less licensed as a professional! Just because someone can operate a machine doesn’t qualify them to either play doctor or counselor! The degree of poor bedside manner, not to mention, an unsolicited judgemental comment that this person passed… infuriated my entire family that I am reporting them to the chief medical clinician at the main location and to the State Department of Health! Don’t waste your time if you’re a prospect looking for a potential OB/​GYN office… this place is garbage!

I’ve had awful experiences with this practice on multiple occasions. I’ve waited over an hour every time to be seen, waited as long as 2 hrs for a consult when over 20 weeks pregnant, contemplating switching to them from the practice I was going to out in Long Island– needless to say, I chose the huge schlep over going back to Boro Park Ob-​Gyn. I was impressed by the Ob that I met with here, most of the doctors here are good– but the practice: front office, wait times, administrative end, billing, etc = horrible.
I was billed by this practice for countless laboratory /​bloodwork diagnostic tests which I was never informed of, including an unnecessary extensive panel of STD labs which my other Ob practice did not require, they only required the two that hospitals require screening for during pregnancy. This is quite ridiculous when you are married or with committed partner for over a decade, just another way to make money off you. Boro Park Ob-​Gyn also makes it incredibly difficult for information to be transferred out of their practice to another Ob practice. I have been to both the Newkirk and Boro Park offices on several occasions and have had the same negative experiences with both locations, posting this review for both locations.

I do NOT recommend this practice. VERY IMPORTANT: the doctors will ONLY give you a 6-​month birth control prescription. I have been on my pill for YEARS and have NEVER had a doctor refuse to give me a whole year. I heard four different stories from the four different folks I spoke to about what that 6-​month check would entail… an internal? bloodwork… only to have it be a blood pressure check. Thanks for wasting my time and my $ 25 on the copay. (I’m not sure if this is related to the previous poster, re. the doctors’ attitudes toward birth control.) Also, the receptionists are rude and incompetent. Questions are not tolerated. My final complaint– they had no idea how to deal with a mail-​order pharmacy. I had to waste my time getting them to send in the correct things, sorting out incorrect information from the receptionists, etc. Go elsewhere, ladies.

Very busy place. You are literally a statistic there. Good and experienced doctors but sometimes You will find yourself waiting longer then 2 hours. Pretty clean office. Parking is difficult

I will start by saying that I was so excited to use this midwifery practice when I became pregnant. They came highly recommended from a trusted friend. The multiple office locations in Brooklyn really appealed to my husband and I, and it was important to me to deliver with midwives.
I have a preexisting condition, which we disclosed to the midwife at my first appointment. I’m pretty well educated on my condition, and since it’s rare, I tend to know more about it than most general practitioners. I gave consent for all of the midwives and doctors in the practice to speak with my specialist regarding my care. The practice asks patients to schedule appointments with each midwife as time goes on so you can meet all of them. Upon meeting each midwife, we had to re-​explain what my condition was, how I was being treated, etc, despite the notes in my chart and consent to collaborate with my specialist.
Three days before my 20 week appointment, I received a call at 5pm on a Friday from one of the midwives who informed me that the midwives had discussed my case and were dropping me from the practice. When I asked why, she said that they had received a report from a consulting clinical geneticist with some «scary information.» We were not given a copy of the report, nor an opportunity to meet with the midwives and doctors to discuss my care. I asked again if anyone had spoken to my specialist, and I was told «No, and it wouldn’t matter at this point, you’d have a lot of minds to change.» To say that I was upset was an understatement. How could they not understand that giving this information to a pregnant woman over the phone would be devastating and upsetting? When we finally received a copy of this report, the information was factually incorrect, but that’s another issue.
Their discharge plan was to refer me to a high risk doctor at Mt. Sinai. After taking the weekend to come up with a new plan, we requested that Boro Park OB/​GYN honor our 20 week ultrasound, give us a copy of our chart, and we would find our own practitioner for the remainder of my pregnancy. They transferred my case from the midwives to a doctor for the final appointment. When we expressed our concern at being dropped at 20 weeks, the doctor said, «Well, at least it wasn’t at 37 weeks.» I won’t try to justify why she thought this was an appropriate comment to make at our expense.
Overall, wait times were relatively short (30 – 40 minutes), and the facilities are sufficient. By choosing midwives, I had expected woman-​centered, holistic care, and instead my prenatal care was abruptly terminated with no consideration of my case or my feelings. I will not recommend Boro Park OB/​GYN and hope that in the future, they do not treat other patients with the disrespect they showed me and my husband.

I’ve been coming here for a few years now & I’ve never been happier. If you’re pregnant and looking at midwives this is the place to go! First of all, everything is done under one roof (exam, ultrasound, blood work) plus you’re out of here in less than an hour tops ! (Tanya is my fav btw)

It’s a shame that folks on have bad stories to tell about Boro Park. I have been very pleased with my expeirences there. I met with a mid-​wife for my anual exam and she was awesome. She was really open to discussing holistic options and very freindly. I really like that they double checked with me about insurance stuff (made sure I hadn’t had any blood work done this calendar year so I wouldn’t get charged, etc). They keep all thier files electronically which would make seeking another doctor/​hosiptal very easy. Reading the other reviews maybe you should seek out using the mid-​wife services there.

The women in the front aren’t so bad, but the doctors are rude and unprofessional. There is one nurse assistant, a much much much older women who is extremely kind and warm, but she was lucky that I am religious and was able to tolerate her religious remarks towards the situation. Their office hours suck, for anyone with a normal m-​f 9 – 5 job, you’re pretty much fucked. To top it off, the waiting room is filled with Jewish women who are judging you hardcore. I live in Borough Park, so I have grown up with them, but here… these women stare at you (disgustingly) with no shame.
It’s a gyn for crying sake, it should be warm and welcoming, this office does it best at doing the complete opposite.

I went again last week, trying to give it another shot. Dr. Troper — GREAT. Receptionist ladies — GREAT, Blood work ladies — CRANKY. The crowd was much more diverse in the waiting area, and I waited 20 mins after my appointment time to get called. Overall much better experience than the first time.
First time — 1 star
Second time — 3 stars and that’s only bc of Dr. Troper.

I went to Boropark because it was close to my location in Williamsburg. I arrived and was stared at by everyone in the lobby. Very uncomfortable. Most of the people were hasidic families. I am not. It was very isolating. I felt judged. Though, I didn’t let that feeling of judgement immediately ruin my experience. Dr. Moshe Schwartz did that himself.
I made the appt simply to discuss options for non hormonal birth control. He had nothing to discuss with me. He was clearly against really discussing birth control options but was willing to tolerate me. He refused to consider an IUD, which is what I wanted, because of the small risk of infertility. When I explained that the risk wasn’t a huge concern, as I don’t want to bear children, but am not in a place in my life, financially and otherwise, to tie my tubes, he smirked and made fun of me. The idea of a woman not wanting children was beyond him. He questioned me about it. Asked me why? I ignored his rude, pointed questions.
He gave me no other advice. Not even about a diaphragm or other forms of birth control. He asked me no questions about my sexual history except if i had had a child previously and when my last pap smear was. He didn’t even ask if i was sexually active.
He then told me that if i wanted the IUD he would write the prescription but refused to contact my insurance. That I would have to do it myself and he would pass me off to a doctor with lower moral standards.
It was the most insulting experience of my life. I left and cried because I was so overwhelmingly humiliated. Then went to PlannedParenthood (all is well! they are great.)
Also, my wait time: 2h30m to be insulted by everyone in the building.

I got my pap smear, guardasil shot, and std testing done here. While the practice seems a little run down. The NP Aggie Smith was very calm and professional. The assistant who gave me my guardasil shot was very nice as well I think her name was Helga. My Health Insurance info went through and got a copy of all my test results without any problems. The only con was my second shot should have been in May and I didn’t get a call until August to come in. So my second shot was three months behind schedule.

Professional, courteous and caring staff. Everyone including the receptionists, billing staff, nurses, technicians and physicians are great. I’ve rarely had such a positive experience in a practice (except my PCP Dr. Magno).
