Ordered: Sea salt on chocolate
Pros – Great combo of sea salt and chocolate. Frosting had a great taste and texture.
Cons – Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate was too chocolate-​y.

I guess the Park Slope location has closed — but I“ll just go to Manhattan E. 7^th St. for these.
BTW — Totally worth making the gtrip to the East Village if you’re getting cupcakes for an event. THE BEST CUPCAKES IN THE UNITED STATES.
They ruin you for other cupcakes. VERY, very fair price — especially if you need a bunch for a party, etc. Much more reasonable then other good, «high end» bakeries.

Came here on my lunch break since I work in the area. The store smells amazing that’s about it. The cashier was rude as hell & very lazy. The cupcake itself (American vanilla) was bland. The frosting was okay. Can definitely be a lot better. The cake was super dry. I don’t see what’s so special bout this place honestly. $ 3.25 on a lousy cupcake *side eye*

The actual cake of the cupcake was solid, moist without being too dense, decent flavor. Tried multiple flavors of frosting however and they were all INSANELY too sweet — and I have a serious sweet tooth. Like, grossed me out too sweet.

I REALLY liked this cupcake. I had the strawberry with banana cake.
Here’s the thing… when you go here, and you look at the cupcakes, they will look small… Like the kind you made at home when you were a kid and you may find yourself wondering why you are paying almost $ 4 for something so small and non-​fancy. However, the cupcakes are dense and heavy. Also the flavor is perfect. So take the plunge, you won’t regret it.

Not bad but not my favorite cupcake for sure; the cinnamon honey frosting was the sweetest frosting I’ve had in my life. Unbearable

Had a private baking class here with 5 girlfriends today. Our teacher, Fallon, was fabulous and we had a great time!
We made chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and had basic chocolate and vanilla frostings, as well as enhanced cinnamon honey and chocolate peanut butter, each of which were absolutely delicious! My favorite combination had to be the chocolate with cinnamon honey. They showed us step by step how to make each component and we also received a crash course in icing technique. All in all, we ended up with over 60 cupcakes to split between the 5 of us, and had a ton of leftover frosting they let us take home.
Prior to the class they told us we could bring our own playlist with whatever we wanted to play, but we opted to listen to their music which was a surprisingly delightful mix of Disney and Katy Perry. Well worth the money and a lot of fun for a nontraditional girls day!

As soon as you walk into the place, you get an overwhelming smell of sweet/​sugar. smells so good that you can’t stop sniffing around. Cupcakes are expensive. Place doesn’t look that great but it doesn’t matter. Cupcakes here are very good but soooo sweet.

The best thing about this place is the smell of butter that hits you like a punch in the face as you pass by.
Otherwise, the cupcakes are pretty average. The cake itself is pretty weak, and almost tastes like a store bought cupcake. The strength here is the frosting. It’s extremely rich and of course, buttery.
The way it works here is you pick a flavor for the cake (vanilla, chocolate or banana) and then choose a flavor for the frosting (tons of different ones, including chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, espresso, caramel, etc.). Or, if they’re too lazy or you arrive a few hours before closing time, pick only from the few pre-​made combinations left over in the display case.
They didn’t have much left last time I came in. I went with a chocolate with peanut butter frosting and a banana with maple pecan frosting ($ 3.25 each). The cake is a little dry and the frosting is super sweet. Pretty good, but nothing particularly memorable.
These are ok for a decent dessert, but with tons of other bakeries in the area, I don’t see much of a need to return.

I just attended a cupcake class at the Park Slope location and I had tons of fun. The instructor Fallon was super sweet and very knowledgeable. She gave a great class and was extremely patient. The store manager Reene was equally awesome; she kept giving great feedback and encouragement throughout the class.
The atmosphere was very laid back, the cupcakes were delish and I had a great time. I would recommend this class and these cupcakes to anyone looking for a fun laid back evening where you can actually learn something :)

I received the cupcake baking class at the Park Slope location as a Christmas gift but the original date of my class had to be rescheduled due to the instructor getting sick. It was super frustrating to reschedule the class and it took a few days for someone to respond and confirm my new class date.
The class itself was good. The place is kind of small though and my class was overbooked. Our teacher was super enthusiastic and nice though, which made the class more fun. I also had a good group of people at my table. We were all strangers to one another but quickly warmed up to one another. Our stand mixer was a bit old and we had to give it a few «love taps» to start it up. Also all of the ingredients were pre-​measured. I think it would have been more hands-​on to measure that all out ourselves. In the end, it was a pretty cool experience and I learned how to make cupcakes from scratch! Next time I want to try the class at the main location in the East Village.

I had purchased a cupcake class for 3 at this location for my boyfriend’s sister as a gift, and since the East Village location was booked up like crazy for all of January, we registered with the Park Slope location. We were a little surprised when we arrived at the class, to find that there were only two mixers for a group of 10, and the class was overbooked — my boyfriend had to stand because there wasn’t a seat for him. In addition, though we were expecting to be making some more interesting cupcake flavors, the recipes we were working with were for vanilla and chocolate cupcakes. I have to say we were all a little bit disappointed by all of the above.
Nevertheless, the cupcake class was a lot of fun, and the recipes were excellent. We each got to take 7 cupcakes home, and the cupcakes were incredible — perfect texture and butter cream. I feel like we all learned a few things from the class even if it’s not what we expected.
In short, I would definitely come to Butter Lane to BUY cupcakes — their cupcakes are one of a kind and the staff really know what they’re doing. But are the classes worth the $ 50-​something per class that they cost? In my opinion, absolutely not.

So these cupcakes are heaven! The store is cute and personable, (one thing I always love about small businesses) service was amazing and yea like I said before the cupcakes are great. I got the vanilla cupcake with the cream cheese frosting

*Little Shop, but Very Cute. Customer Service was awesome. Counter person was very nice. Very Very Clean and Décor is adorable. Cupcakes are very good, simple and to the point. I appreciate the fact that there’s not a whole lot of frosting and extras. It’s just a good simple cupcake. Price is in the middle, I got 4 for almost 14. Cupcakes are worth it though :-)

My sister and I went for the cupcake decorating class on a beautiful Saturday morning. The instructor was late, and somewhat bland. She really did not want to be there.
They taught us to make 3 batters — chocolate, banana and vanilla, though you could only pick one to make yourself with 4 other people surrounding a kitchen-​aid — it was a team effort. Same with the frostings, 3 recipes — peanut butter, cinnamon, peach, pick one, make with your team. There was no individual attention whatsoever. We were not shown any decorating technique except for slapping some frosting on the cupcake and smoothing it down. That was it.
The class itself was boring. Everything I learned there I’ve been doing myself for years. It was very, very beginners.
We were sent home with 4 cupcakes of your choice that the group had prepared and a little booklet of the recipes that the group had made.
For those who want to actually learn decorating — Go to a Wilton class. Spend the money. You’ll get a lot more out of it.

Where do I begin?
The atmosphere of the place was rather bland and slightly boring. However, it had some sort of a sweet ‘down to earth’ (as someone had mentioned before me) charm. The cupcake display was also rather messy. Flavors were all mixed up together on the same trays and there were no signs. If you wanted a cupcake you had to look over onto the menu and see which flavors you’d like together, because you won’t be able to figure it out by the looks of them.
The cupcakes themselves were actually not that bad. Personally, I enjoyed the frosting. There was an abundance on each cake and it was packed with flavor! Christina H. below me mentioned that they didn’t have much flavor, but I have to say she might have been there on an off day! I wish she’d gotten to taste the frosting like I did, though, because it was rather yummy :) On the other hand, the actual cakes varied in consistency. The vanilla and banana cakes were moist and delicious, meanwhile the chocolate ones were rather dry and bland. (Which is a disappoint for a chocolate lover such as myself!)
Personally, I ordered the banana cupcake with chocolate caramel seasalt frosting. (Sounds odd, I know) But, It was absolutely delicious, and I loved the frosting !
Additionally, the pricing of the cupcakes here is a little outrageous. My significant other came here only because of a Groupon that offered a 50% discount on bundles of cupcakes. We purchased 12 for 18 $ instead of the usual 36 $.
** On a side note, the lady behind the counter was very friendly and amiable, however she put in a wrong order and gave us a popcorn cupcake instead of another flavor… we don’t really like popcorn on our desserts :(

I went with a friend and I liked her cupcake better! Let me explain…
I bought a vanilla cupcake with chocolate peanut butter frosting. The cake itself tasted great. It was moist and, actually, maybe a little TOO moist because it fell apart. The cupcake top was perfect! The frosting didn’t have much flavor though. Here and there I tasted some peanut butter was I was not impressed.
Then I had some of my friend’s cupcake (vanilla with vanilla) and that vanilla frosting was so flavorful! Ugh I would go back just to have some of that frosting!
The place itself is small and the staff on that day were not overly friendly.
In the end I would go back to taste other frosting flavors (and for that vanilla frosting, of course) so I recommend it. Perhaps you can get a taste first before you buy the whole thing?

I paid a quick visit to Butter Lane to pick up a cupcake for dessert later in the evening (not to mention I needed some new places to review for the June 2012 challenge!)
First impression was that the place seemed very homey and local. I noticed they offered cupcake making classes– neat.
I decided on a chocolate icing, caramel, and sea salt cupcake. I thought it tasted just okay. I liked the sea salt and how it balanced out the sweetness of the cupcake, but I wish the chocolate icing was a tad richer. Also, I thought the cupcake was small– at $ 3.25 a pop, I find it pricey for what it is.
The person behind the counter didn’t seem too happy to be working there. That being said, my visit was not a really memorable experience– I’d rather spend money on a Billy’s Bakery cupcake or just make ‘em myself. Next!

Banana cupcake with the honey/​cinammon frosting… one bite and you are done. Every other cupcake you’ve had is forgotten… this one is the best one ever!!!
Staff really helpful and friendly. Even though the cupcake I wanted wasn’t out, they frosted it for me while I waited. Happiness!

4 stars because of price, $ 3 for a cupcake… that’s $ 1 a bite!

The Butter Lane cupcake which I first tasted in the Village, is now in the Slope. Big surprise considering all the other transplanted brands from the city here.
I do manage to give them business a little more than I should. Why? Convenience factor plays big here. They also do have Blue Bell ice cream which reminds me of college and being Texan. Still they don’t have my favorite cupcake (red velvet).
Perhaps they’re trying to go for different. They do have flavors like Key Lime and Ginger grapefruit. The thing is I don’t really enjoy the icing that much. Its a bit too sugary and not creamy enough for my liking. Still the cake part of this cupcake is good but more angel food than cake usually (I prefer that actually).
I like the French versions which use egg whites. Makes me feel like I’m doing slightly better.
