Matt is a fabulous contractor. I don’t want to repeat what others said– but he did a gut renovation of our bathroom that turned out really well. We had a nightmare incident with a prior contractor we hired and he stepped in and picked up the job, even though he was booked through the summer– he found time to squeeze ours in because we were in a dire situation. He’s very responsive and helpful in terms of answering questions and provides solid advice on decisions. His team is also very skilled and professional.

I have owned six homes, mostly over 40 years old, and hired many contractors. Every review you read about C & M is TRUE. You cannot find a more honest, reasonably priced, totally competent company, owner and skilled labor. Don’t waste time; look no further!

I would HIGHLY recommend C & M Construction.
First off, I am a rather demanding professional person with an almost-​OCD like attention to the tiniest of details. I tell you this so you are better able to comprehend just how good someone has to be to get a 5 STAR rating from me.
Common concerns of a homeowner about to embark on having construction done usually include quality, reliability, cost, honesty of the workers who will be in your home, privacy, noise, cleanliness, neatness, attention to detail, and having someone who is knowledgeable and capable of giving advice about the myriad issues that will come up and with which few of us have any personal experience. In all of these areas of concern, C & M Construction came through with flying colors! The major stresses of living through a major renovation were pretty much non-​existent because of these great guys.
We had two bathrooms and a kitchen gut-​renovated, a closet built, a hallway and closet renovated, and a staircase rebuilt. During the entire renovation, my husband, myself and our severely autistic teenage son lived on-​premises. This is a very difficult thing to do, but Matt and his crew did everything they could to make it go smoothly. They were mindful of our son’s needs and went out of their way to accommodate us – including removing the toilet every morning and replacing it every evening for us.
Matt is a sincerely pleasant, good person who has years of experience and vast stores of knowledge. He was a great source of information and advice. The crew who worked on our renovation project consisted of Jose and Pedro – both were prompt, hardworking, skilled, polite and pleasant. I’m going to miss all of these folks now that the job is finished.
I told Matt to pencil us in for a basement renovation and a livingroom/​dining room renovation in a few months!

I found Matt on Angie’s list. This was my first renovation project and I was very cautious after contracting horror stories I heard all around. The number of positive reviews on Angie’s list made me contact Matt and after hearing his quote and discussing my plans I decided to go with Matt without looking any further. He told me from the start that he was very busy and I would have to wait for a few months. I decided to do it anyway and it was the best decision I have ever made.
Matt and his team just finished renovating my bathroom. The bathroom was from the time the building was built, 1928, and needed a complete redoing. I also wanted to get rid of the bathtub and replace it with a shower. It required a complete gutting of the place and practically rebuilding it from the scratch. Matt’s team did a fantastic job. The quality of work is outstanding and the attention to detail extraordinary. And no budget overruns!!! The guys were also a pleasure to deal with. I was almost sorry to see them go. All I can say is that if you are looking for an honest and professional contractor Matt and his C & M company are the real thing. Well worth waiting for if you have to.

Matt and his team renovated our apartment. The renovation included most of the entire apartment, including refinishing the floors, building and installing a closet, electrical, and virtually a gut renovation of both the bathroom and the kitchen.
First, Matt came in below the estimates provided by several other contractors. Second, and equally important, we had a wonderful experience with Matt and his team. He was very responsive and both he and his crew were extremely professional and knowledgeable. We were extremely satisfied with the end product. In fact, even after the completion of the project, Matt addressed a few lingering knacks. There is no doubt that we would turn to Matt once again for a renovation… in a heartbeat.

Recently had Matt & his folks gut & redo my bathroom — very pleased with the process, & the results. Matt’s estimate was fair & reasonable, & he came in exactly on point when we finished — despite a few challenging plan alterations along the way. He was always reachable when needed, stopped by the site every day to check on his guys (who were wonderful — extremely polite, courteous, patient & skilled), dealt with my daily altering design plans with grace & never made me feel crazy for small specific requests or changes of mind once seeing it come together, & offered good solid suggestions & vendor recommendations along the way. They were able to do the entire job neatly & with low impact while the whole time we lived in the (not large) apartment — which I didn’t expect to be the case. In addition, I simply found he & his crew to be genuinely decent, honest, & easygoing people — which has more importance than I would have anticipated (after all, they will be in your home daily for weeks). Recommend without hesitation.

Matt and his team gutted our bathroom. they:
removed all walls,
moved a closet,
replumbed and rewired the entire room,
moved the location of the toilet and shower/​tub
installed new floor and wall tile, lighting, fixtures, patched an existing hardwood floor, etc.
Matt, Jose and Vincent are the consummate professionals. Matt is a very organized contractor. He is timely, communicates effectively via phone, text and email, and he delivers on his promises. He tries to understand what you want as client and to make it happen. In our case we’re in a 90 yr old building whose walls are filled with who knows what so he provided an initial estimate without promising that he’d be able to move our toilet, wall, etc., but would try. When the walls/​floor were opened and it proved possible, Matt made a very reasonable adjustment to the estimate to cover the extra work.
Jose is a very skilled craftsman. He and his son Vincent were on site every day. They were timely and extremely professional. I was amazed that they were able to carry out the entire renovation/​repair (a total of 5 weeks’ work) in a manner that allowed us to live in the apartment the entire time. This included removing and reinstalling the toilet at the beginning and end of each day, which was extremely considerate. I really cannot say enough about their performance. The lines in our new bathroom are very clean and level, and the overall feel of the room is remarkable. The sink and tub drain much more effectively given the work they did, and the room went from being a dark dungeon to a clean room with very adjustable lighting.
If I have one reservation it’s that the end of the job was a bit rushed (probably because it took a bit longer than expected due to some issues within our building that they had to respond to). This made it such that some of the finer finish work could have been executed a bit more cleanly. It’s possible that this is just not their specialty, but in the end it didn’t altogether matter. The room is amazing, and Matt’s estimate was by far the lowest we received. At least one contractor bid a solid $ 12,000 MORE than he did, and most were $ 3000-​$ 5000 more. Matt has done at least one other bathroom in our building, and they are very satisfied as well. The C & M team worked well within the rules of our co-​op, and I recommend them without any real reservations. If we undertake another major project I will not bother calling other contractors and would be happy to hire them again.

We used Matt to renovate our small studio apartment in Bay Ridge. I have built 4 homes in NY and Vermont and worked with builders for each. Working with Matt was not like any of the 4 experiences I had. Most construction contractors live for the moment. Get your job, get your money and get out. Matt is a breath of fresh air. We use the studio a few times a year, so we had not ventured back to have Matt finish a few lose ends. He called us when he didn’t hear from us to ask when he can come back. Mind you he was paid already. It was a pleasure working with him, so much that I want to buy something else that needs to be renovated… Just joking, but not joking about how good he was…

Matt and his crew were great. If you’re going to have people working in your apartment or house every day for several weeks, you really want them to be easy to get along with. These guys showed up every morning exactly on time, cheerful, courteous always. Even when we caused a delay in the project, they worked with us and started up again as soon as we were ready. Matt stopped by every day, and he couldn’t have been easier to deal with. And, to top it all off, our kitchen came out beautiful!

Matt and his team are truly wonderful and do quality work for a reasonable price. He is honest, kind, and fun to work with. The entire bathroom renovation took a bit longer than anticipated but that is because they make sure it is done right. Matt responds to texts, emails and phone calls immediately and is never grouchy about changes or concerns. He has wonderful suggestions and tips along the way to improve the look of everything. I would definitely use him again in any future projects. I chose him because I had a good feeling and it was spot on.
We have six cats and he was more than enduring of their presence and always talked kindly to them as they pestered him for attention. :)

I really can’t say enough about C & M. They are honest, terrific craftsmen with reasonable rates, and I will not hesitate to use them again and recommend them to my friends.
They did a gut renovation of my bathroom in Park Slope. From the moment he came in to give me his estimate, Matt showed himself to be an honest and caring guy. He said he was most concerned that I be happy with the results, and at first I thought, «Of course he HAS to say that – » but it was true! He thought of additional and affordable things for my bathroom design I hadn’t considered, and gently steered me away from unwise (and potentially expensive) mistakes. Jose and Vincente, his crew, are fantastic, very detail oriented and professional, and like another reviewer, I trusted my keys with them.
In addition, they gave me many considerations, for example daily replacing the toilet in my bathroom up until the very end so that I could still stay in my place during construction. This was above and beyond and for that I am totally grateful. Frequently Matt would suggest a little improvement on our original plan, like moving the plumbing to make the shower more comfortable, or installing an extra recessed light. Jose even built me a countertop over my Ikea cabinets, making the place look totally custom. These were totally affordable improvements that made a big difference– Matt didn’t nickel and dime at all.
When I had that inevitable weird freak out of «what grout color is this?» (which I never thought I’d be that person, but I totally was) Matt was totally cool and drove all the way to my place to make sure that I was perfectly happy with his purchases before the guys did anything permanent.
Finally, a week after everything was done, my drain was a little slow, and I called Matt who rushed over and made sure it was fixed immediately. These guys really do take pride in what they do.
The work they did was top-​notch. They were not afraid to wait to ask me about a decision they were unsure of (heights of tiling, things like that), and the tile work was wonderful. I will post pictures as soon as I can.
The best way to illustrate the quality of my experience: my super is notoriously disapproving of the contractors in NYC (we have an old and tough building to work in, and he is protective of both his building and of his residents). By the end of the process, my super came in to «inspect,» pronounced my bathroom «gorgeous,» called Matt and his crew «some stand-​up guys» and asked for their contact info to recommend them to my neighbors.
Be warned– like every truly good contractor in the city, Matt is BUSY. But he will not start your job and then abandon it for other jobs, like some! He may start a few weeks later than you originally plan (sometimes because he is making sure his previous job is perfect) but it is worth the wait, truly.

His employees were professional and I felt comfortable having them in and out of my home during the renovation process. I would highly recommend C&M Construction for any home improvement job.
