My family and I have been going to Café Hadar for five or six years. It has always been our favorite restaurant. Last night we went again. They renovated the inside and got rid of the awesome orange walls which was kind of sad. However, what really is making me put a one star rating is that out of six of us, one got the wrong thing, one got inedible pasta, one got an inedible completely unflavored sandwich and one got salad that was missing half the ingredients listed. The waiters were at times confused as though they didn’t understand why we were ordering food and at other times lingered at the table as though they were trying to have a conversation with us. Food here is not cheap. I expect good service, especially when gratuity is included in the bill(which, by the way, had two mistakes on it that would have cost us an additional $ 30). I’m not planning to return here. It’s a shame. Service and food both sucked and soured me on ever returning here again.

Good coffee! No meat products. Everything is Kosher but that is fine. Still enjoyed breakfast

Really wanted to enjoy this place. They messed up on the two salads my friend and I ordered. Cook became really defensive when I complained, and did not offer an apology. There was no attempt to appease the customer, and make them whole. Sorry Hadar, won’t be coming back.

Let’s start off by saying that their hours on Unilocal are wrong. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch because he lives close by. The coffee was absolutely delicious. The service? Not a damn good thing about it. I’m pretty sure they treated us like crap because we aren’t Hasidic Jews. We waited over 35 mins for our food. Never again.

Came here with my whole family. Took an hour and a half just to get our order. I ordered a baguette with cream cheese and smoked salmon and to my surprise their wasn’t any cream cheese on the baguette. Cheese was lacking on the panini sandwiches. For some reason this resturant thought that American cheese is actually a cheese! They put it in all their pasta and baked ziti. They automatically deduct a 18% gratuity to your bill! Overall I was very disappointed in the customer service and food. If you have a lot of money in your pocket you’d like to waste, this is the place for you!

A nice restaurant. It’s clean and the staff is great. But every time I go there I leave disappointed by the food and remember why I promised myself in the past not to go back. I feel like if they upped their ingredients or redid their menu they would have much more business.

So I’m from LA but I come to NY on a regular basis because I have extended family out there. I often stay in Brooklyn and was looking for a café to grab a bite, meet people, etc and came across this place. First things first, its Kosher, which is something I prefer. The food isn’t stellar but its definitely above average. The greatest thing I tried there was their ‘lemonana’ drink, which is an iced-mint-lemonade that is actually fantastic. The coffee is average but the breakfast food is pretty good. This is an Israeli-style place so the food that is ethnic of that nature is definitely the way to go on the menu. The service is mediocre at best and they incorporate an automatic 18% tip(probably because people weren’t tipping well), that being said, the wait staff was super nice and accommodating(I know some people said otherwise, but that wasn’t my experience). I would definitely recommend this place as a good neighborhood spot but not a destination restaurant. It’s not necessarily worth traveling to unless you are looking for a spot in the neighborhood. There frankly isn’t a better place that is similar in nature. There is plenty of seating space because they have a large outdoor area(inside might be full if you come during peak hours). So yes, if your around and hungry for this kind of food definitely check it out.

Imagine this scenario: at the end of your dining you get a bill that has already incorporated 18% of tips without getting your permission. Of course, while taking the orders the waitress was chewing gum while talking with us, a party of 4, and looking away with not the slightest interest to to be obliging or forthcoming. She brought our orders and threw them literally on the table. We looked at each other trying to understand what hit her! Now is clear why such a degrading service from the waiters: they have their money secured, they don’t need to fake friendliness or humility! I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go to Café Hadar and for sure they will not see me, my party or any of my friends, acquaintances or neighbors very soon.

I went to Café Hadar with my mom when we went to visit my Grandfather at Kings Highway Hospital. I was dreading lunch hour as most restaurants nearby were fast food, chinese, or subpar pizzarias. I used my «around me» app and came across Café Hadar. Upon arrival I was very excited. The décor is adorable. It basically looks like any adorable mediterranean/Israeli restaurant that you’d find in Manhattan. We sat down to find a very strange menu. It was basically omelets and other random things. I know that the restaurant needs to keep kosher, but it was just odd. There weren’t many options either. After scouring the menu, I ordered some: hummus with tahini, grape leaves(which ended up being canned with sautéd onions on top. Yuck!,) and a beet salad. I asked if there was Moroccan mint tea. The sweet waitress was confused, so I basically told her how to make it(you know, since they have mint leaves in other mediterranean influenced dishes. Again, VERY odd menu.) I noticed that Turkish coffee was on the menu. After spending two long days visiting my Grandpa in the hospital, I knew that I needed caffeine. The waitress asked if I wanted a small or a large. Um, I didn’t even know that Turkish coffee came in more than one size. I said«sure, let’s go big or go home.» When the coffee arrived, it was in a monstrous clear coffee mug. I was skeptical. With an open mind, I took a sip. One word: HORRIBLE!!! The whole thing was just mud! I’ve dined in several mediterranean restaurants before. Heck, I lived in Northwestern Greece for almost three weeks. There, the Greeks drink«Greek»(aka Turkish coffee.) I know what’s up! I told the waitress that I wasn’t happy. She nervously told her supervisor. An arrogant hispanic man came up to me with a huge chip on his shoulder. He said«what seems to be the problem.» I said to him«I’m sorry, but I took a sip of this coffee and it’s undrinkable.» He replied«well, this is Turkish coffee…» I replied«I’m very well aware of what it is, and this is not Turkish coffee. Plus, a lovely Syrian woman and her family at the next table confirmed that the coffee was a sham. The grains are supposed to fall ATTHEBOTTOM. This whole cup is basically mud.» He nastily replied«Well, this isn’t AUTHENTIC, it’s instant… and we’ve never had a complaint BEFORE!» I wasn’t backing down! I looked the shmuck dead in the eyes with an «I mean business face» and said: «regardless, I am not happy and I would like to exchange this for something else.» He then replied with an attitude and switched it for another item. What an ass! When the bill came, my mom decided to put in her piece of the pie. We realized that the poor service was not the fault of the nice lady serving us. We discovered that the other guy was technically supposed to be our waiter and was going to scam on the tips. My mother paid the bill with credit and wrote«NOTIP» on the receipt. On the way, she told the young woman that she realized that it wasn’t her fault, sympathized with her abusive work enviornment, and tipped her what she deserved in cash. Take that, asshole coffee man from earlier!!! I am giving this restaurant props for the following: a) the décor is beautiful b) it’s a rare find in Marine Park near Kings Highway and Nostrand Avenue c) the hummus and the beet salad were DAMN good c) I feel bad for our waitress and having to deal with such a d_ck of a colleague. I was going to give the restaurant 3 stars since the few things that I did find suitable on the menu were very good overall(other than those nasty ass grape leaves.) Even the improvised Moroccan iced tea as per my instructions was nice and refreshing. This restaurant has SO much potential! The only reason the beet salad was as enjoyable as I describe is because I made them exclude the onions and honey mustard dressing. I had them substitute it for lemon and oil. With ingredients that fresh, there’s no need to drown it with strong and strange flavors. Omelets? Seriously, omelets? That’s what college boys make that don’t know how to cook! Café Hadar, you have so much potential! Step it up, please! I want to really like you more :-)

I’m new to Mediterranean foods and I’m very picky. I went to this place with my coworkers and I was really impressed. The hummus and falafel balls were delicious. I’ll definitely be back to this place before the week is over. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very light and cozy.

Absolutely one of the worst places I’ve been to in a long time. Service is extremely subpar and gratuity is included in the bill so no wonder they don’t care. Took 20 mins to get a drink order and to get plates. After that entire wait, the utensils and plates were dirty. The location is very small, cold and uncomfortable to be in. The food is not worth the money, I found hair in the food. The salad tasted as if it was thrown straight from a bag of lettuce. The service is what really killed my experience, do yourself a favor and skip this place and go anywhere else. I think I would’ve been better off going to mcdonalds. You would have to pay me to come back to this place. The only reason I didn’t give one star is because the pastas here were decent but that’s the most of it.

Best omlet ever! And the waiters Are super cool people ! Carmel macchiato is the best drink ever, you tell the guy to sprinkle some cinnamon in there and it’s like icing on the cake. Everyone should try it I’m sure you’d all love it. Caramel macchiato + Marlboro 27 = an explosion in your mouth!

I must say, this is a diamond in the ruff. The place is nicely decorated in a bright yellow and earthy tones. The service was really good and accommodating. The service was attentive for the most part, with only some very minor faults. The food was very tasty and flavorful and tasted rather fresh. They serve a combination of american and middle eastern dairy only(since it is Kosher. must be meat or dairy, and not both) The food came out rather quickly and we must have been there about an hour and a half if not 2… thanks to some friends that came really late. and not because of the service. Not once did they ever rush us, even though the place became jammed. Good food, good service and nice ambience.

Very good food. Nice sized portions, and reasonable prices(certainly for a kosher place.). Nice atmosphere too– they have an outdoor section in the rear that is very nice on temperate days. Service is good enough.

Solid food. A bit pricey, but that is because it is kosher. Flip side, they have many healthy options and great coffee drinks. Furthermore, the vibe an décor are great, especially when the back yard seating area is open. Oh, and they’re wonderful with kids!

I’ve eaten there a handful of times, but have gotten takeout quite often. After last night’s ‘Royal Tilpia,’ I thought I owe Café Hadar a Royal Review. Although the appetizers did not really impress me,(The nachos, and mozzarella sticks weren’t that great.) I enjoy ordering from here pretty often. They have a menu online at . Their sandwiches are reasonable and delicious. I like the Dario sandwich, but the fries arrive soggy, so go with a salad(I prefer caesar, but the house salad is good too). I also enjoy the Hadar salad, and their vegetable pizza. And they have this warm drink called a vanilla crème… delicious… i just don’t have the words… Needless to say, the Royal Tilapia is fit for royalty. Even my husband liked it, and we don’t often like the same foods. Their service has always been courteous and helpful. AND they delivered in, like, 20 minutes. I think that’s unheard of around here. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, with a lovely outdoor area(from what I remember). Enjoy. :)

Been here many times. Usually breakfast or lunch with wife or friends. Great food, granted i only have omelets here, at good prices. Nice selection of fresh juices, but very pricey. Reasonable service.
