Very disappointed, the food didnt taste fresh. And the home-fries were burnt as if they were re-cooked several times. Save your time.

I have been coming here for eighteen years. The new ownership has changed things. There have been some minor mistakes made to orders, after never having a mistake before. The new employees act incredibly weird about giving you a shopping bag. The woman Jennifer who is usually up front never remembers who ordered what, she makes faces behind customers’ backs and I have seen her dipping her fingers into the container behind the register that holds the ice cream scoop, to wet her fingers to open bags. Since she runs the register, she probably has filthy fingers from handling money. This is unsanitary. The food is still very good. I hope they can get it together with the staff.

I’ve had five star experiences here, and one-star experiences here. I tried to segregate this review into«The Good» and«The Bad», but the experiences are so mixed together that it can’t be done. I’m really glad they were able to find a way to modernize. You couldn’t call them for delivery because they never had anyone to deliver, and often closed earlier than the stated time of 7 pm. Now they’re on Seamless and they take cards. This is a meat place. The pastrami sandwich is great and affordable. The bacon is crispy and flavorful, the cheddar cheese is always well-melted and has a strong cheddar taste. I used to recommend their grilled chicken because it was properly flattened, moist, and well grilled. But the last three times I’ve had it, there have been problems. It’s been crunchy in that weird way that chicken can get, where you’re not sure if its raw or just improperly trimmed. I’ve been ordering it for years, but I won’t do so again. I just threw away my entrée, which was my main food for the day. Their pastrami sandwich is great, but don’t order their meats by the pound. For some reason, you’ll get lean slices of pastrami that cover the sandwich well, and the fat bits are melty from long cooking times. But you order a pound of it to make a Gluten-free sandwich at home, and all you’ll get is fat and end bits. Again, not a one-time fluke. It happened to me multiple times and then I stopped ordering it. The fries are usually delicious. I say ‘usually’ because they often run out of their traditional wedges and fall back on inferior fries. One time, they served me battered fries, which I can’t eat due to gluten intolerance. Again, a time I had to throw my food away. Today we tried a piece of the cheesecake. It’s one of the things I can eat because I can cut the crust off of the bottom. The piece that arrive was half the size of a usual diner slice, and was covered in crumbs on all sides. Couldn’t eat that either — not that it looked appetizing anyway. The coleslaw here is not good. The coffee is excellent, has that classic diner taste. The waitresses are always overworked so it is hard to get refills on creamer or coffee. Today we ordered through Seamless and added bacon to an item. They did not add it to the tab and charge our credit card — instead they demanded cash for the bacon when they arrived with the delivery. We didn’t have any cash, that’s why we ordered from here with a card. We had to ask the landlady for money to pay for the bacon, which was mega embarrassing and not worth it. In reading what others have wrote, it sounds like all of this happened after a change in ownership. I appreciate that you take cards now and are on Seamless, but if the trade-off is quality, I won’t be ordering. This is NOT a one-star restaurant, they definitely can be Five Stars with a little quality control.

oh my flippen flying freak! i’ve been going to this place for 5 years ever since i moved to brooklyn! and everything was great when george was the owner! now after the owners changed everything has been going down hill! to start off one day i went to buy breakfast came home and was about to eat and there was mold on my bagel. like are you kidding me! so i went back and gave the bagel back. and then couple weeks later i got food delivered and they forgot my banana. which okay 50 cents i let it go. so today i ordered lunch from them. i ordered 2 orders of mozzarella sticks, coffee and a croissant. so my food comes and its not the food i ordered! so i called back and the guy who answered takes my number and hangs up. so few mins later i get a call back from a teacher who also got the wrong order and she asked me what room i’m in and if we can just switch our orders. so i let her know that i’m at home and don’t work at the school. so the delivery guy comes back picks up the food to switch. first of all thats unsanitary. and why would i even trust the other people who had my food. they could have picked at it. how do i know if they’re clean or not. and why would they give my number out to a random person, that’s a breach of privacy. they messed up and should have fixed the order instead of leaving it to us. so i called back like 100 times and the line was constantly busy. so then i go to the store to just ask for a refund. the cashier immediately tells me not to talk to him and to yell at the delivery guy. the delivery guy looks about 16 years old and he just says there was no address on the receipt. so then i say to the cashier they need to be more organized, write the address on the receipts and just placing blame on other employees doesn’t solve any issues. so finally after 45 minutes of this entire process i finally got my refund and was able to go home hungry. anyways i cant even go on with this review anymore i hate this place now and i just want the old owner george back who kept everything on point and organized and never messed anything up!!! come back george please come back!!!

Normally I have a good experience with Columbus. On Friday, I called to order food to be delivered. I asked for a Ceasar Salad with Grilled Chicken. I was told they don’t make that. I informed him that I knew it wasn’t on the menu but I had gotten it before, just romaine lettuce, grilled chicken and parmesean cheese with ceasar dressing on the side. He insisted that he wouldn’t make it for me so I cancelled my order. He was very rude. I will never go back there again.

I’ve dined in twice and the second experience was the cherry on top! Almost everything is drowned in oil — potatoes was soaked in oil. Spinach omelette was soaked. Sausage seemed deep fried? Scrambled eggs, over easy eggs and sunny side up eggs were soaked in oil too! One of the few places that can manage to screw up eggs. Everything was dirty — from plates to dried up food on their utensil and multiple lipstick stain on their cups! When I asked for a whole new setting for my table of 3 i ended up getting«not as dirty» plates and utensils. What a joke. The waitress — there was only 2 and was nasty and stressed. Our waitress kept giving me excuses for being forgetful. The other waitress kept saying she is not our waitress and we are just going to have to wait. I realized most of the lipstick stains on the coffee cups matched matched our waitress lips! Not that it has anything to do with the food or service. It just adds on more laziness to this«restaurant» to know that one of their employees don’t clean up after themselves. Management — gave me the half ass«aww I’m sorry» speech. Do not bother with this true hole in the wall.

This is the only place that makes my omelette JUSTRIGHT!!! Almost every morning I order an egg white omelette with american & turkey bacon, with whole wheat toast, home fries, and a coffee. Most places if you order at 12 pm, won’t give you home fries but not columbus!!! There’s only been one time when they didn’t have home fries and that was the day I ordered an omelette at 3pm. My orders are always right and the service is great! There’s 1 other diner kind of close to me, but they never have home fries after 11am, and they never get my whole wheat bread right. I don’t get in from work on the weekends until 4 am, so knowing that I can sleep in till 12AND still have home fries with my omelette is GREAT!!! Coming here to pick up or getting my delivery always makes me happy! Im LUCKY that I live only 6 blocks away from Columbus!!!

For the neighborhood it’s one of the few casual places you can either grab and go or sit at the counter. The coffee is spot on every time but the majority of the food borders on average or below average(undercooked fries, inconsistent breakfast sandwiches) the in house service is pretty stellar though but their delivery leaves something to be desired. Columbus is good for an emergency but it’s not exactly something to shed tears over if it ever closes.

Pleasantly surprised! I walked in not knowing what to expect. I mean when you put«deli» and«restaurant» in the same title, it kinda throws me off, I mean ya coulda just said«diner,» but whatever. Anyway, what seemed like the owner was at the counter when I walked in, along with another employee. Omg, how absolutely nice both of them were. Literally did not expect this. Typically, going into a deli, restaurant, diner, whatever they wanna call it, in Brooklyn, I expect some tudes and stuff, but nope, these guys were so sweet. Ok, the food: great BUT I asked about the fries(as I’m not typically a fan of wedged fries) and the seemingly owner guy raved. So I figured, let’s try it. I did NOT like the fries. They weren’t under salted, there weren’t salted whatsoever, which throws me off a lot but hey whatevs. Also, seemed really clean in there which is always a plus, especially in this area where most shops are pretty dingy. My one big no — no wherever I go is if the place doesn’t accept credit cards. I can understand if you’re like a tiny deli, MAYBE, but you’re an eat — in restaurant, no way in hell is that in the least bit convenient. I had to go running around to take cash out of an ATM. This has definitely left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth but the food, except the fries, was good and the customer service even better so I can’t complain too much. It’s definitely worth trying out on an off day that doesn’t require fancy shmancy arrangements.

Exactly what I was looking for. Quick service, solid food, bottomless coffee. This no nonsense vibe speaks to my New Yorker soul. Did I mention the prices are insanely cheap? Egg white omelette w peppers & mushroom w tea and potatoes for me, 3 eggs, ham, bacon, and sausage w potatoes for the brother. Solid breakfast.

I have been coming to the Columbus Diner for several years now and as far as I am concerned, it is the best diner in Bensonhurst period. The quality of the food and service are exceptional and the prices cannot be beat. Any other diners located in the area(Bensonhurst) are way overpriced and the food is not nearly as good or as well prepared.(They are already on the website here.) Don’t miss the fries — they’re outstanding, as well as anything else on the menu. All sandwiches are made right up at the front counter as soon as you walk in. they are also generous in size. As I said, I go there every chance I get. It’s a shame that it isn’t an all night place like some of the others, but when it comes to quality, you cannot beat it. You will not be disappointed. And you’ll walk out with a lot more money left in your pocket than if you walked out from anywhere else.

I like The Columbus because nothing is more New York than a kosher Deli. Now I dont really know if Columbus is a Kosher Deli but I can get Pastrami on Rye and a Knish with a Cream Soda so that makes it Kosher enough for me. I love their Pastrami, enough lean and fat, very flavorful and not overstuffed like say Carnegie or overpriced like say Katzs. The rye bread is wonderfully soft and they put the right amount of Mustard. The Knish was also good a very plump and potato stuffed specimen which the nice counter girl split and filled with Mustard for me. The only drawback was it was probably sitting on the grill too long as the bottom was a little burnt. They gave me 2 pickle spears one sour and one half sour and I do love my pickles. Columbus has been in that spot for many years and I hope they will be there many more.

I think if columbus did not exist, neither would i! their coffee is amazing, i know i know its the usual coffee but something about it makes the worst day seem bareable! Most of their food items are pretty filling, the burgers are made to order as is everything else. the employees, are friendly.&& remember your order after you order about 6 times lol. at this point i eat more at columbus food than i do at my own food at my house!
