Dough

Generally I am not anything like Homer Simpson in his utter devotion to hole in the middle breakfast cakes, but I am game for small batch handcrafted ones. One bite of the hibiscus donut, however, and I drooled with a Homeresque intensity. We had a sampling of others, which were also wonderful, but the bright pink covered confection won my affection.

Only one word can be used to describe these donuts: delicious. When I first walked in I was greeted with the aroma of fresh baked dough. There was a wide selection to choose from but I decided on the hibiscus and the dulce de leche donuts. The glaze for both donuts wasn’t too sweet and the ratio of dough to glaze was on point. All in all dough has produced good quality donuts that are pretty large in size.

I’ve tried most of the varieties: toasted coconut, passionfruit, hibiscus, chocolate salted caramel, milk chocolate with earl grey, and plain glazed are some of my favorite. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you order though. I guarantee it.
This shop is cash only so definitely bring all the money in your bank account. Try to bring a friend so you can try many varieties (you will be extremely satisfied after one doughnut, they are thick and large — like huge pieces of perfect fried dough).
Dough is the kind of place you bring visitors and then they talk to you about the experience for weeks. I pretty much have to bring anyone who comes to see me or no one will visit. Run, don’t walk to Dough immediately (also because you might as well burn some calories on your way…)

I’ve tried 3 flavors and can’t really understand the hype about these doughnuts. I only liked the hibiscus icing and the rest of the doughnut did not taste overly spectacular. I know it’s supposed to be light and fluffy or something but it tasted heavy and was a waste of calories.
Speaking of calories, since these doughnuts are sold just about everywhere (at least 9 locations) I do believe this store is responsible by law for making the nutritional information for their products knows. Yet, there is no information about the calories anywhere.

For every doughnut I’ve tried, the flavor really stood out on it’s own. I’ve tried the Café Au Lait, and it’s too heavy for my taste. I tried the lemon poppy seed doughnut next and my entire mouth was immediately filled with that citrus flavor. The doughnut is just too much for me. If the doughnut is sweet, it’s very sweet, same with any other flavors. It’s not a light doughnut. I’ve gotten such a sugar rush to the point where I would receive a headache. I could never finish one whole doughnut alone not because of the size but because of the flavor. It’s just overly packed with that flavor that I just can’t seem to go on.

Massive donuts in a dizzying variety make this place a go-​to spot for local hipsters, as the line outside often attests, but the most important critics in my life, my young daughters, who definitely appreciate a sweet repast, define these donuts as «nasty» in their opinion.
More left over for those of you who don’t mind spending through the nose for donuts, I suppose.

Well, thanks Dough. You’ve runied doughnuts for me forever. I used to take great pleasure in my Friday semi-​stale glazed doughnut from Dunkin Donuts but, no more! There is no better doughnut in the world. Period.
Highly recommend the Café Au Lait but it’s all deadly. Good cup of coffee also.

Ok, how could you not LOVE Dough??? Reasonably priced around 4 bucks a donut, soft, and so flavorful!!!
My favorite are the hibiscus, passion fruit and salted chocolate caramel, but they’re all good! You can’t go wrong. Went here recently and caught a gingerbread donut special. Yes it was as amazing as it sounds.
Service is always great here. I can imagine this job being very frustrating, but it doesn’t get to the staff!

I recently read an article that highlights this place as New York’s best for doughnuts.
I’m writing this review to confirm that article — that yes, Dough serves the best doughnuts in New York, if not the world!!! Seriously the BEST I’ve ever tasted.
The dough is out of this world! Feels fuller and chewier and more decadent than most doughnuts. The flavors are divine. When I first stumbled upon these gifts from God at a Brooklyn Sunday flea market, I couldn’t decide what to get. But there were only three left — the decision was clear: get all three (chocolate salted caramel, mixed berries and lemon poppy).
I remember that OMG feeling when I bit into the first one. I knew, right then and there, that doughnuts will never be the same for me again. Everything now just pales in comparison! Ugh mouth is watering right now — someone send me some Dough!!! w

It’s only taken be this long to finally come here and visit. I first heard of them through Smorgasburg, but arrived too late when they started running out of everything. Finally driving through BK, I stopped in on a Saturday at 3pm and the line was still out the freaking door!
–Café au Lait — my favorite! Sweet with just he right amount of coffee subtleness, would def recommend this one.
–Glazed — you judge a donut place if they can do the simply stuff right, and they sure do it well with the glazed one.
–Hibiscus — my mouth is a bit confused by the flavor which is mild and a little sweet. Looks pretty in pink I guess?
–Dulce de Leche — the wifey’s favorite, topped with sliced almonds. Not too sure if I tasted much of the flavor, but it did happen to be the largest of my 4.
Each donut sets you back about $ 2.75 (bought 4 for $ 11; not sure if cheaper with additional quantity), but they’re absolutely worth the cost. All of them are fresh, and super large/​soft/​fluffy. Hell I might even give em out as a Christmas gift.

YUM! Love this place! It’s only a few blocks from my apartment but I definitely don’t go enough. It’s not crowded at all during off hours and weekdays, but weekend mornings can cause a line out the door. The doughnuts are AMAZING, especially the hibuscus one. I also like the plain glazed one. They also have milk (for purchase) to go with your doughnut!
The people who work there are great!

These doughnuts have permeated every corner of life in Brooklyn. No, really, they’re everywhere. With good reason. Stay away from the Dunkin’ and come here.
The quality is consistent, and the value is there for the money.
After awhile they all taste the same, but whatever, they’re all good.

Nothing makes me happier than donuts! Dough definitely meets all expectations when it comes to good doughnuts. Extremely fresh, flavorful, and light. The hibiscus, and passionfruit are my favorite. They always have different flavors so you’ll never be bored!

I actually found out about this place randomly – I did a search for Dunkin’ Donuts and this place popped up in my Unilocal search. It has over a thousand reviews and they average about 4.5 stars, so I was excited. I got there at around 10:45 a.m. and there was only one person in line. So, as already stated in the numerous reviews, these donuts are huge. I had intended on taking six so my bf could try it when I go back to DC but when I asked the employee how long they would hold up, she said 12 hours. Clearly, taking them home would not work. She told me that they open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m. I decided to get two donuts-​passion fruit and glazed. As I was getting ready to pay (cash only btw), I asked if it’s because of the dough, she was about to say something but then she just said «yeah.» I don’t know if she didn’t know the exact reason or didn’t feel like going into detail (I’m inclined to think she didn’t want to go into detail). The shop is small (no seating but there’s a bar where you can stand and eat/​drink but that’s small too). Also, there is a little area if you need to and milk and sugar for your coffee. On the left hand side, the bakers are making the donuts (you can see through the glass).
Anywho, I went home and ate them both (I didn’t have breakfast… lol). I prefer the glazed over the passion fruit. The passion fruit wasn’t bad but not super. I guess I was expecting more. A plain donut with passion fruit icing on the top part doesn’t do much for me. Maybe they should have put some passion fruit flavor in the dough itself. Plus, the donuts are definitely dense, I know that I wouldn’t have been able been able to eat more than two. I doubt I’d come back, the whole experience (from service to donut) was just meh. I definitely have experienced better.

I’ve never liked these when I got them at whole foods or a farmers market but the trip here was worth it!

Looking for something different to impress friends and family over the holidays? Make your way over to Dough and stock up on their amazing donuts! I brought these to customers today and they really knocked their socks off! The coconut was a favorite, surprisingly light and moist. The chocolate frosted version was another hit with cream inside, too. If tart’s your thing, go for the passion fruit.
The folks here were very nice and helpful. The store itself is pretty basic, but the donuts are the attraction, for sure. I’d give five stars if they accepted credit cards, but otherwise I was happy I made the journey to previously uncharted territory in Brooklyn. Check it out!

Fact: the Passion Fruit donut from Dough is AMAZING. Sweet & tart passion fruit pureed glaze generously drizzled over a fluffy yeast donut. That, my friends, is what my donut dreams are made of. Easily one of my favorite donuts anywhere, NYC and beyond.
I happened to be in Fort Green recently and went out of my way by three-​ish blocks because I remembered that Dough was in the hood. Fact: Dough is the type of doughnut place you go out of your way to go to.
So… go! Get a Passion Fruit and try and tell me its not flippin’ delicious.
PS. When I arrived a few minutes before 10am on a recent Friday there was no one in line and a full display of goods… looks like that might be a great time to go!

Dough. This place is dangerously close to my apartment. Like, across the street close. I’m not sure how I manage to have enough self control from visiting this place every day. I’ve tasted every single one of their regular flavors, my favorite being the classic glazed donut.
I tried the pumpkin flavor for the first time today (yay pumpkin season!) and it was super yummy. Definitely made my day :)
Dough will always have a special place in my heart/​stomach. It was the first place I visited before moving to bedstuy two years and still my favorite today.

So woke up early, ran 3 miles to Dough. My reward? 6 doughnuts. I think 3 miles justifies 6 doughnuts, right?
I decided to order 6 different doughnuts for $ 15.00 so I could try them. This is what I got in order of best to least!
1. Passionfruit with cocoa nibs
2. Mocha
3. Hibiscus
4. Café Au Lait
5. Toasted Coconut
6. Dulce de Leche
The doughnuts are huge and have a dense consistency.
My favorite was the passionfruit. I thought it would be too sweet or too fruity for me, but it was just absolutely amazing. I would recommend this 100%. The cocoa nibs added a crunch to the doughnut, which made it that much more amazing! The mocha was a recommendation from the cashier. You can never go wrong with mocha. The flavor wasn’t overwhelming at all. The hibiscus was very interesting. The flavor is light since it’s flavor is different. I was still very delicious.
The doughnuts here are great. That being said, if you like lighter doughnuts, you’ll probably be overwhelmed. Their doughnuts are dense and very sweet. You’ll leave feeling full with a sugar high after eating here.

Bevor ich hier war, dachte ich, dass ein Donut nur eine überschätzte Süßigkeit ist. Man kennt sie nur aus schlechter Massenproduktion wie bei Dunkin oder McDonalds.
Das hier ist was ganz anderes! Traditionell und handwerklich hergestellte Donuts aus dem Himmel! Vor allem kann man dem Handwerk zuschauen, hinter der Theke sind die Meister und Meisterinnen bei der Arbeit und die netten Damen am Tresen bedienen die langen Schlangen von Kunden. Die bestehen aus einer illustren Mischung aus altehrwürdigen Brooklynern, bärtigen Hipstern und Anwohner der nahen Lafayette Gardens Projects.
Bester Donut der Welt. Period!
Eine Filiale in Berlin wäre ein Traum ;)

Les meilleurs dougnut de tête ma vie!!! fait maison… on les voit faire les dougnuts à travers la vitre… mon préféré cinnamon ou lemon… j’en ai mangé l’année dernière tout les jours pdt 2 semaines et j’en rêve encore… attention le we il y a la queue jusque sur le trottoir!!! Mais le jeu en vaut la chandelle…

Je n’ai jamais aimé les beignets et assimilés outré mesure. Et puis, il y eu Dough. On né peut pas s’imaginer à quel point un donut peut-​être exceptionnel avant d’avoir goûté ceux de Dough. J’étais déjà fan de Donought Plant jusqu’au jour où j’ai découvert Dough qui leur est bien supérieur.
Tout ici est une vrai tuerie. Ca tient à deux choses: premièrement la pâte en elle-​même, incroyable de légèreté et de moelleux, et vraiment pas grasse. Ce sont bien des yeast-​donuts (levé à la levure de boulanger) et pas les cake-​donut qui sont plus compacts.
L’autre élément, ce sont les glaçages, tous bluffants. J’ai un gros faible pour le passion fruit & cacao nibs, avec cette pointe d’acidité et de fruit qui amèné une balance parfaite. Né pas manquer les différents chocolats, celui à l’hibiscus, et puis ça tourne souvent de toute façon, donc à vous de tester les dernières créations de la maison.
Alors c’est un peu un trek pour y aller, dans le quartier pas très fréquenté de Bed Stuy, mais ils ont régulièrement un stand au Smorsgasburg ou au Brooklyn Flea Market. À vérifier sur leur Facebook et né pas y aller trop tard pour avoir le choix, car ça part très très vite.
Une adresse ultime quand on est de passage à NY ou qu’on y habite.

La boutique n’est pas au centre du monde, mais dans un coin à Brooklyn et elle est toute petite mais il faut vraiment y faire un tour :)
Les donughts coûtent 2 $ 50, bien plus cher qu’ailleurs mais ils les valent, surtout qu’ils sont balèses ! Et ils sont bien bien bien meilleurs que ceux de chez Dunkin Donuts…

Vous n’avez pas mangé un vrai bon donut tant que vous n’avez pas goûté un donut de Dough.
Oubliez les Dunkin’ Donuts et autres chaînes. Chez Dough, on joue dans une toute autre catégorie.
Si vous êtes de passage à NYC, et à Brooklyn de surcroît, vous devez ABSOLUMENT vous rentre dans cette petite boutique. C’est une perle et vous né le regretterez pas. Prenez carrément une après-​midi pour aller chercher une boîte de donuts (une boîte de 12 cela va sans dire) et vous promener ensuite dans le quartier pour admirer les jolies demeures Brownstones typiques du quartier.
La boutique n’est pas très grande et notre regard est irrémédiablement attiré vers la vitrine aux beignets. Ils sont énormes et coûtent donc un peu plus cher que des donuts «normaux»: 2,50 dollars l’unité.
Les parfums sont variés: les classiques sont présents (chocolat, nature, au sucre…) ainsi que des parfums plus originaux comme dulce de leche, noix de coco, café au lait, hibiscus… Et j’en passé.
Ils font la pâte eux même. Et quand bien même il n’y aurait pas la cuisine ouverte, on aurait aucun doute la dessus.
Une fois que vous goûtez à cette pâte… Oh. Mon. Dieu… Vous vous rendez vite compte que ceux que vous avez goûté jusque là n’étaient que des ersatz de donuts. CQFD
Bref, mon coup de cœur ultime New Yorkais.
