Simply Polished

This was the first time I’ve been here and after a really long day at work I stumble in around 7PM and instead of turning me away they graciously let me in and did a mani+pedi. Not only was that really good customer service they didn’t rush it at all. The woman who did my nails was AMAZING! She stayed an extra hour after they were suppose to close to finish my nails even though I told her it was fine if I had to leave. It was probably one of the best mani + pedi’s I’ve had in a long time, much better than Manhattan. Also it was really reasonably priced. Can’t wait to go back.

My first time here «I love this place it’s clean and pretty salon. My Pedicure was the best I ever experienced, by Jericka she was lovely most gentle very professional best ever… I’ll be back tomorrow for my gel manicure.

From the moment I walked in the door, I knew this was not going to be a great experience.
Picture it: a rainy Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, not many people around. Stores, including nail salons are less than empty.
When I first walked in, the owner was seated by the door. I was expecting a warm welcome or at least a friendly hello. Instead, I got, umm… nothing! It wasn’t until I asked if I needed an appointment for a gel manicure that someone finally acknowledged me. I just feel very strongly about patronizing an establishment by my own free will and receive lackluster service!
My gel manicure was just OKkkk for me. Nail polish does not belong on the skin nor on the cuticles. I asked my manicurist to fix it, and she did. All she did was push the cuticle back… really??? Her name was… I forgot but it was something like Georgina… not sure. She was polite but looking at the finished results, she did not execute like a true manicurist should.
No personalized nail file or buffer (health dept, you may want to check this out)
No complimentary beverage
No sweet smelling hand scrub
No music playing
Just dry! I can’t…
$ 28.00 later… i’m very disappointed, boooo!

Literally do not go here. While they do a nice job, they charged me $ 10 extra. Even upon me showing them their own prince list Georgina charged $ 10 extra. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Tamar did my nails and I Love how they turned out. A friend reccomend this salon. Tamar has won me over as a new regular client. I recommend making an appointment or grab a coffee from Dough and be patient as it is Well worth the wait. Great service.

Got a gel manicure here 43 $. Two days later it’s chipping and cracking. It was thirty degrees outside when I got my manicure, the salon had no heat. I was shivering the whole time and the manicurist just pretended she had no idea the heat wasn’t working. The gel they used was very poor quality. Hygiene standards were scary low. I would not recommend.

This place sucks, I wish I could give it 0 stars. I went for a gel manicure. Literally looks like a 5 year old «simply polished» my nails — I have nail polish on my fingers and outside of my nail beds. There’s no way they actually do any of those gel designs that are posted on Unilocal.I asked for a simple design and they couldn’t do it. The gel removal process was also bizarre. Instead of wrapping each individual finger in foil with cotton balls that have acetone, they had me put my whole hand in a bowl of acetone. Also, the lady put «cuticle oil» on my fingers which burned like crazy — I’ve never experienced that. I only went to this place because they were open later in the evening.
If you are looking for a nail salon in this area, I highly recommend Very Polished Nail Lounge on 1082 Fulton Street (718.636.0600) — they do a great job.

I thought long and hard about going here to get my nails done since is an hour from my house, but all the nail techs by my house suck when it comes to doing a full set.
I get my nails done every year for my birthday and every year I have to go to a new nail salin, so this year I decided to give Simply Polished a try. Well let’s say I won’t be looking for a new nail tech next year because I have one and her name is Toni (hope I spelled that right)
The shop was neat, organized, welcoming and adorable.
Let me tell you, this lady took her sweet time to do my nails and I didn’t mind at all because they come out exactly how I wanted. The shape, length, size and color, she even went above and beyond to make all of them match because I have a crocked middle finger (which was important because my previous nail techs didn’t care)
Long story short she did an amazing job, and the rest of the ladies in there were cracking jokes which I liked, made the atmosphere feel welcoming. I’ll be heading there for a fill in the future.

The customer service here is great but the one star goes for sanitation. My first time at the salon I got a mani-​pedi and love it so I went back. As they removed the polish on my finger, my thumb nail on the side was black. I didn’t think nothing of it just thought it would go away. The manicurist looked at it and was like what’s that? I didn’t know but come to find out weeks later my nail is breaking off, pain starts and the black turned into yellow. It turned out to be a fungus. First time I ever got one and my thumb hurts typing this review. Now I have to figure out how I can deal with this infection.

When you look at this salon on the Internet it looks modern clean and beautiful-​in real life it is dirty and run down looking.
The woman who did my nails was nice but was so rough on my nails that one of them bled and they were all sore for days after… implements and tables are really quite filthy. My friend who went with me got yelled and schooled by the nail tech because the nail tech never asked if she had gel nails on so now that was another step she had to take and the tech was pissed.
They have a very limited selection of polish and it was dirty and chunky… which meant when I got the polish on my nails it was old and uneven when it went on…
The day we went it was sweltering and they had the door open and a fan on… and that was about it. So during what should be a relaxing experience you’re sweating… there is nothing luxurious or relaxing about this place… when you get a service done it should be enjoyable-​this was not… I would avoid this place.

Clean and did a great job. Could use a few more new colors but good selection regardless. Amazing selection of gel colors.
Intimate and small probably call ahead just to make sure there is time:)

If you’re looking for a great salon look no more! I was very impressed with the service at Simply Polished, it was the best pedicure and manicure I’ve had in my life. I mean, I’m amazed at how well Tamara scrubbed and cleaned my feet. All of the nail techs were simply AMAZING. I no longer need to look for a nail salon in Brooklyn! bMy only complaint is, they need a wider selection of colors.

Clean, great space (small) staff is quiet, but efficient. I’d come on a weekday– they are busy on weekends but not good about handling the crowd. Also I was in pain from a weekend of terrible heels and I really wanted a massage and didn’t get one actually the woman who worked on my toes seems rushed… Even when there was no crowd… Overall I’d definitely go again, but only if there was no other option. Thy did also play good music

I’ve had so many manicure/​pedicures from all ranges of salons and Toni is hands down the best. She gave a pedicure that she clearly would want for herself. It was so precise and lasted so long. I’m so relieved to finally have found a place that doesn’t cut corners.
Awesome.

My friend and I are staying at an air b n b in bed-​stuy and we found simply polished on Unilocal!We had the best time with Toni and Tamara as they fancied up our toes and nails! These ladies were sweet as pie and Id love to come back again!

I live in the neighborhood and have been coming to this place for the last two years.
They aren’t the best option for «cheap/​affordable» seeing as a pedicure alone will run you about $ 28, however I will say my pedicures have never looked as good anywhere else. Seriously.
There seems to be only two full time nail techs there, Georgina and Toni. Both ladies are great and my polish seems to last much longer than most places I’ve been to. My mani will last a good week before chipping. I work with my hands by trade so yeah that’s a long time, and pedi for much longer. This is using essie or opi products.
When I asked Toni what her secret to long lasting polish was she simply put «I know how to paint nails, I know what I’m doing». Haha so there’s that. She’s also very helpful and honest about nail care. She has suggested I stop wearing nail polish on my toes to let my nails breathe, so I took her adv and my polishless toes have never looked better!
The space is tiny but very comfortable, I never feel rushed or flustered as I do in other places. It’s a gem for sure. But it def can be pricey!

I thought long and hard about this review and decided I shouldn’t write one. But each time I wash my hands since my visit I feel the burn and I’m like *shrugs* I’ll write.
The best way I can describe my experience is by agreeing with most if not ALL the reviews here, both the good and the bad, the likes and the dislikes. Confused? Stay with me.
I’ve found really aesthetically pleasing nail shops but poor workwomanship. I’ve been to good nail techs but horrid as in dirty or dingy shops. I know there are great all rounded nail salons and my quest is to find one.
I experienced most of what other Unilocalers have experienced here. I witnessed the way long time clients were greeted with enthusiasm. I saw the smiles, I saw frowns, the good manners, and the way one client was reprimanded because she was standing in the wrong spot.
In the customer SERVICE industry, you’re as good as how you made your last customer feel. You cannot sleep! Your two, four years ago great service won’t say much if you’ve become complacent… lazy.
1. No color chart for gel polishes. The color is ALWAYS different when looking at it through the bottle.
2. I was told one price $ 28 for a gel polish but after «service» it went to $ 33! I asked for an explanation and was told they charge $ 5 to remove your old polish. Please state the entire cost at the start to avoid customers being embarrassed. I have been to shops that don’t charge a removal price so it isn’t a given. Suppose I had only enough for what I was quoted and a tip? These are hard times and I count my coins ladies. Just let me know what your total price is up front. If I ask for more during the procedure then by all means I expect to pay more.
3. We don’t have to be best friends but some sort of dialogue is important. I don’t go to my doctor or hairstylist and they just start checking me without knowing my concerns, reason for visit. Why was I the one who tried engaging the tech and in so doing letting her know what shape I wanted, my nail style etc. You should have been the initiator of that convo. Instead I was made to feel that I should stay quiet and accept whatever style you wanted to give me. The other ladies weren’t as stern looking.
4. Several times I had to jerk my hands the pain so unbearable and I’m not a cry-​baby. A good nail tech realizes when her pressure is too much and releases, not so with Tea (name deliberately withheld).
5. After my nail cuticle started to bleed I just wanted to leave. It should NEVER GET TO THAT POINT. I thought surely she’d ease up now… not so with Tea.
6. My fingers had to be revarnish 3 times! THREE TIMES!!! After my first polish and UV lamp dry, I called Tea’s attention to the fact that my nails were still wet and now clumpy. She said the top coat will clear that up. I’m not the professional here and even though in all my years as a professional wearer of gel polish this has NEVER happened I took her word for it.
After top coat application nails were still wet. She roughly removed the polish and asked a co-​worker what could be wrong, why weren’t the nails drying? (I heard the theme song for «Murder she wrote» in my head).They all shrugged. All this while my now terribly sore nail bed is being filed AGAIN to remove remnants of polish.
My polish was roughly removed and reapplied twice before another tech suggested Tea check the bulb in the UV lamp as it had fallen earlier. Hey presto *sighs* two of the four bulbs weren’t working hence the reason some of my nails weren’t drying.
Mistakes happen of course I know that. But why was I your paying FIRST TIME customer made to feel as though it were all my fault that my nails had to be redone… several times???
And after all this you STILL CHARGED me to remove polish?!? Were I in your position, I would have gladly and humbly comped that removal. I would have done my utmost best to ensure my mistake didn’t cost me a potential client. You’re as good as your last customer says you are. And I do my nails often, very often.
Yes you guys chatted amongst yourselves, but I wanted so badly to like your shop (so cute it is too) that I joined in your chat uninvited, before the physical pain
I see great potential and I’m sure as other reviews have stated you ladies are great nail techs. Sadly, my experience with Tea was a different one. Consistency is key!
Please, I want you to be awesome! Take this in the spirt it was intended and make sure each customer/​client enjoys the same awesome experience.

After service my cuticles are dry and hard with nail varnish spillage on them, no better than if I had attempted to do it myself. Refer to pics below.
I cannot recommend this shop nor can I turn anyone away. It’s all up to you future potential clients.
I’m giving SP a 2.5 and I’m not usually this kind to anyone who sheds my blood for no reason.

Let me start by saying I have high standards when it comes to acrylic manicures. You may even call me a diva. *hair flip*
After searching for hours and reading easily 75 reviews from other nail salons in search of a nail salon in Brooklyn that does GOOD acrylic manicures, I finally stumbled upon simply polished. Affordable, near me and I saw some other reviews with images that looked promising. Not to mention it was on the list of top 10 nail salons in NYC to get a cheap mani/​pedi (CBS news).
Sure they didn’t roll out the red carpet for me, like some of the other reviewers seem to have expected. And it was FREEZING in there! Actually the acrylic chemicals and gel polish weren’t going on as they should because it was so cold. Luckily they had space heaters and put one right next to me. They didn’t have a lot of gel colors to pick from and I had to pick them from the bottle instead of the nice color swatches that have two coats painted on them. So it was frustrating picking a color since the bottle is never quite accurate. I recommend buying your own and bringing it with you.
HOWEVER I could easily move past this after getting my stellar manicure from Toni! This girl was THE best. She took the utmost care to make sure none of my nails had lifted, made sure the length was perfect, cleaned up the acrylic around the cuticles and cleaned under the nails as well. AND can we talk about the shape! I’m so OCD about getting a subtle stiletto nail shape and Toni nailed it (pun intended). She took her time and filed those puppies to perfection. She was so sweet and was very friendly too! It helped that she was full of compliments for me too. :)
I will absolutely be back again!

After seeing some of the reviews I must admit that I was a little apprehensive so I’m going to try and make this review as accurate as possible.
This may help others who are on the fence.
For the location and price range, the place is somewhere I might return to. Only when in need though. Definitely not a go to manicure location.
Reason being POINT BLANK PERIOD, they need an attitude adjustment.
They are not the most professional of nail salons. I can see how they can be seen as abrasive or «rough»
I personally feel that is a culture thing. Sorry but not sorry because it’s true. Jamaican woman can come across that way if you don’t know «how fi deal wit dem»
They should work on that. You know, simple things like «what can we do for you today?»
«Or will that be all?»
Instead they talk across the room to each other. That can be kind of rude depending on how your clientele receives it. Stopping my manicure to text, definitely a NYET. (Russian but a plain no was not sufficent)
Honestly, they could stand to hire a receptionist to be a ambassador and do the hand shaking.
When you walk in you have to figure out who can help you or who should be informed or your required services. No bueno

Automatically I decided on only doing manicure.
They have a couple chairs but it’s almost sandwiched in with the manicure tables which makes for a very intimate grooming session especially if people decide to be loud on their phone.
They made use of the tiny space to stack all the nail polish in the hall way. Smart. This gives you a chance to scope the place out while you wait.
They do have a selection of gel colors, which is a plus.
They could stand to add some colors to the rainbow as stated before
I definitely can see where some people say they were cut or sore. I had to request no action to my nail bed as I feared for them after the filing process.
This is also after SOAKING in acetone to remove my gel manicure. That’s also no bueno.
There are many modern nail polish and gel polish removers. Even the cheapest of salons will use foil and a soaked cotton swab and wrap each finger. This helps save my hands from being submerged in a bowl of CHEMICALS. Let’s not forget that that is what acetone is.
Also, when I tell you I would prefer the safer methods, you say «thats all we have & it will be ok». Don’t downplay my requests when I’m telling you what doesn’t work for my skin. I’ve lived with it for 22 years, I should know by now. (Totally not my real age, I’m a lady)
My skin always starts peeling when I used to soak my nails, back in high school, which is why fake nails never have my thing.
Plus, many people don’t realize acetone contains… never mind. Another review, another day for that topic.
Anywho, they are a clean place, which is plus.
Also, my manicurist did warm up after we started talking (but I tend to have that magical affect on pepple so…)
For the big win, manicure did survive two weeks of being on set, rock climbing, concerts and even an art class or two.
That in itself gets three stars.
