Dr Robert M Lerch, MD

My friend had an ear infection and she needed a second opinion, since she did not have good experience w another ENT doctor. We got her a last minute appointment. Dr Lerch was to the point but thorough. Made sure all the questions were answered and diagnosed my friend properly. Highly recommend him

Dr. Lerch is a crook. I booked a hearing test and wanted my hearing aids repaired. I was rushed into Dr. Lerch’s office without my consent, spend maybe 10 minutes getting procedures I did not want and then billed an additional $ 392 on top of the 500 plus dollars he received from my insurance company and my co-​pays. He billed me as a new patient, even though I was already part of the group in which he practices, charged for ear wax removal that he did not perform and an endoscopy of my Larynx that I did not need or want. I should note that he is an in-​network doctor and I have a gold plan. The whole group seem to be just a bunch of money grubbers. They have a million tests taken but do not provide any results. Also, I was told that I would have to make yet another appointment with yet another practitioner to have my hearing aids looked at. My recommendation is KEEP AWAY FROM THE ENTIRE PRACTICE. They have no interest in health care, only their bank statements.

Well, clearly I am in the minority about giving Dr. Lerch five stars… I have been going to Dr. Lerch for, literally, my entire life. From hearing tests to getting sand out of my ears after a vacation to PR to giving me stitches. Dr. Lerch has been nothing but professional. Sure he has a different sense of humor, but I think it’s great and finally a difference from all the other doctors out there. But then again I’m not a sensitive person. Also, I don’t even have a scar from where Dr. Lerch stitched me up. Win win right there!

This doctor is an absolute joke. Zero bedside manners, useless hearing tests required for EVERY visit and he is arrogant and cold. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT. Google him and you will find similar reviews from patients. Also, nice hair Dr. Robert M. Lerch. NOT.

A horrible experience. He was so rude, didn’t make eye contact, stuck a swab in my nose and down my throat without warning or telling me why he was doing it. I had a blocked salivary gland, so I don’t think the sinus probe or whatever it was was relevant or necessary. He was sarcastic in response to my explanation of my symptoms. I told him that it was a recurring blister filled with saliva (as far as I could tell) that I regularly lanced with a needle. «How does that work, since it’s an ulcer,» he said with a smirk. He told me to make another appointment with him, which I didn’t and won’t. I got a second opinion. It’s a blocked salivary glend. In summary, my experience confirmed what the rest of the internet says: Dr. Lerch is rude and condescending. Maybe he’s in the wrong field. I don’t know why he would regularly treat patients with such disdain unless he’s miserable. Follow your heart, Dr. Lerch. Stop taking out your unhappiness on your patients.

My wife came home from a visit and overlooking her evident physical pain, began speaking only about what a rude, insensitive, officious, and obnoxious experience she just had. Dr. Lerch never addressed her directly, and left zero seconds between when he gave her a shot for the pain he was about to inflict and actually inflicting it. Even a topical anesthetic needs a second to kick in, yes?
He never showed any acknowledgment of the pain she was in (unavoidable pain, but not so much as a glance at her as she cried out) and then promptly walked out leaving her with the nurse the moment he was done telling her to schedule a follow-​up. She is never going back, and looking for another doctor as of this minute.
Rarely have I seen such unity of opinion on Unilocal,BTW. This guy is a tool, clearly.

Because I’ve lived in Greenpoint for about 10 years and because I tend to get sinus infections often I’ve had several appointments with Dr. Lerch over time. Here’s what I’ve observed:
1. His bedside manner is abhorrent.
2. He is willing to diagnose and prescribe antibiotics in less than 60 seconds.
3. He will recommend a hearing test (and sometimes additional referrals) every after every 60 second diagnosis.
I would recommend searching out a better rated ear, nose, and throat specialist before making an appointment here.

I had an appointment with Dr. Lerch because of ear pain. At first, I was happy to have found an ENT in Greenpoint. Big mistake. This guy was so rude, after he walked in he didn’t even introduce himself or shake my hand. He spins me around in the chair like it’s a joke and talks only to the nurse, not to me. Barely asked me why I was there.
He prescribed steroids and antibiotics and didn’t explain the medical rationale for the steroids until I asked and then he acted like he was annoyed for having to explain it. When he did explain it, he was rushed and disinterested.
The worst part was when I was leaving. He told me to make an appointment for the following week. I asked if I should come back even if I was feeling better and he shouted at me like I was deaf and dumb «WE HAVE TO GIVE YOU A HEARING TEST TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY PERMANENT HEARING LOSS».
Now why would he say something like that? To scare me? To charge my insurance company for another visit?
The next day I was so upset about the whole episode I called around all day to get an appointment with another ENT. I found one at NYU who was so wonderful and assured me THERE WAS NO WAY I HAD PERMANENT HEARING LOSS, just fluid in the middle ear.
My NYU guy wrote out a list of homeopathic and OTC drugs for me and within a couple of days I was fine. I would NEVER go to Dr. Lerch again.

this guy i found to be arrogant and inattentive and he prescribed me antibiotics that he said had no side effects (after i told him 3 times that i am deathly allergic to some antibiotics and asked him is there anything i should be aware of any side effects i should watch out for he laughed ant me and say no — 3 times) and i ended up in the emergency room over night with my throat closing up. He was not a good experience don’t use him.
