Three reviews in the past 5 – 6 years was a bit striking when I first looked at Feeney’s page here. Then I realized that it’s entirely possible that I’m the third person that has been to this bar in the past 5 – 6 years that uses Unilocal at all which, no offense to Unilocal, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This is a truly a locals’ bar. The patrons are working class folks that(I presume) hail predominantly from Bay Ridge or Sunset Park. That the bar is outside the normal roaming range of the Park Slope/Boerum Hill/Williamsburg crowd has kept it largely off the radar as places cut from a similar mold(Jackies, Farrell’s) have seen an uptick in patronage but at the cost of losing some small bit of character. Drinks are priced fairly with a bucket of standard sized bottled beers setting you back $ 20. Because we were there on St Patrick’s Day, we were also invited to enjoy some home cooked corned beef provided by the proprietor’s of Feeney’s. Generally, though, food options are limited to the bags of chips/crisps hanging behind the bar. Service was attentive and friendly and all of the employees, including the owners, were welcoming and gracious. What Feeney’s lacks in aesthetics it more than makes up for in character. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods, Feeney’s isn’t a bad place to down a pint or two.

At Feeney’s pub you get your choice of Bud and Guinness, a pretty standard selection of hard alcohol, and the same 20 or so songs on shuffle(I think I’ve heard Paul McCartney’s «No More Lonely Nights» and Kings of Leon’s «Sex on Fire» about 5 times each now). If cheap beer, booze, and feel good music aren’t exciting enough to hook you, read on. At Feeney’s there is never a dull moment. The regulars(mostly rowdy 40 somethings) keep things interesting by dancing to the music, screaming about the superbowl, bantering amongst each other or harrassing Sheila, who is perhaps my favorite bartender in the world and holds her own against the gruff patrons at her bar. I’ve been there twice with my friends. We sit off the bar a bit taking in everything. Sheila and the owner, John, make us feel right at home, chatting us up or offering us a round on them. Ask for a Sheila bomb(Guiness and Jameson) and shout out«Sheila!» before you drop the shot.

Unpretentious, homey bar fueled by cheap drinks and cheaper guinness. I imagine if me and my roommates weren’t the only ones in the bar, there would probably be lots of sweatpants and old knicks jackets sitting down to a whiskey and beer. It is what it is, colorful decorations from years past are strewn up on the walls, and they have lots of hats. Lots of them. Very quiet and nice place to grab a beer with buddies if Irish Haven’s fuzzy tv annoys you.
