Sam just helped us find our dream apartment in Greenpoint, and my boyfriend and I can’t stop saying how much we lucked out! The place is great, affordable and in a prime location. The icing on the cake is how easy the process was, thanks to Sam. He showed us the place last minute and is just the easiest guy to deal with. He secured the place for us with no money down until we were approved by the landlord. This has been the most pleasant, non-​hassle broker experience we have ever had.

This is the best experience I’ve had working with a realtor. I worked with Sam, and my friend and I found a large, reasonably priced, charming Greenpoint apartment. The fee was reasonable, one months rent. He was helpful, honest, and not pushy while guiding us through the process. When taking us to the apartment he made it a point to tell us where we could catch the local buses, etc. I would definitely recommend this realtor, and would use again.

We found a place we loved through these guys and put down a deposit. Met the landlords for about 8 seconds in the hallway when we saw the place, who were not friendly and who seemed to say something about us in another language to the broker, but whatever! We set up a time to meet with them and the broker the next week to sign the lease and handed over all of our most intimate financial information. Everything was looking good!
About an hour before the meeting was to start I got an email from Flatfinders saying the meeting was off and that the landlords decided not to rent to us. Not that they picked someone else, but that they decided not to rent to US. They kept the apartment on the market. No reason was given for rejecting us, and we were told later that our paperwork (which was pretty stellar if I do say so myself) was not even reviewed by the landlord. So, basically the landlords saw something they did not like in the hallway when we met and decided at the last minute to back out. I won’t offer my theory because in the end I can’t be sure.
If the landlords hadn’t backed out, our experience with Flatfinders would have been great, but, this was our experience and it felt important to share in a pretty objective way as a cautionary tale of what can happen out there. I know for sure Flatfinders did not want what happened to happen. I will say that they refunded our credit check fee, which they didn’t need to do, but going through this whole rigamarole left an inquiry ding in my credit report (that’s how good my credit is – I care about this stuff) and more stress and tears than I care to detail here. The guy at Flatfinders felt really really badly about what happened to us, but they continued to list the apartment (it showed up on an automated email I received from them later — hah!) and didn’t show us any other places except for one dud the night we went to get our deposit back. No contact after that night at all. (But from what I understand, that is how all the brokers operate in Greenpoint. You see a listing on Craigslist, you go see it, and if you sign the lease you fork over $ 2k. You never expect them to call you.)
They do have Dum-​Dums and sparkling water in their office, both in large quantities. So that was nice.
All this said, I would consider using them again — I would just not think ANYTHING with ANY broker is a done deal before a lease is signed and I would listen to instincts if I meet a landlord again and get a bad feeling. (We eventually found a place through another broker and now have the nicest landlords on the planet.)

After many failed attempts at finding a livable place in Greenpoint, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by FaltFinders. Marzena was very attentive and considerate to our needs.
