Specialties

I specialize in starting complete beginners the right way, and helping existing players reach the next level. I teach music theory, note reading, technique, improvisation, and the songs that you want to learn to play. I have many years of experience teaching rock, blues, jazz, pop, and folk. All ages and skill levels are welcome, and both acoustic and electric playing styles are taught.

Business Owner

Kirk Huneycutt has been playing guitar since 1988 and teaching professionally since 2000. A native North Carolinian, Kirk earned a B.A. in music and a minor in jazz studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he studied with Bob Russell and received the Talent Deserving Wider Recognition Award. He has also studied privately with Jonathan Kreisberg, Michael Daves, Rebecca Kane, and Lucius Wilson.

Before returning to his home state, Kirk spent the last thirteen years in New York City working as a professional musician, and has held teaching positions at Great Scott Music, the School of Learning Art, Musika, Take Lessons, Encore Music Lessons, and independently.

Kirk is an improviser, songwriter, composer, and educator whose playing style blends jazz, blues, rock, soul, and folk music. Kirk has performed at the Gramercy Theater, Sidewalk Café, St. Nick’s Pub, the Cathedral Church of St. John Divine, Nuyorican Poets Café, Showman’s, and the Way Station among others
