I love it here. I have had a lot of gyros and middle eastern food in my lifetime, and this place is amazing. Cash only. $ 5 for gyros or falafel. $ 1 per samosa(I’ve had meat and veggie both are great, but the meat is better). Lots of toppings, they make keep the food fresh but making what they need as you order instead of letting it sit around. Nice people that work here, and they remember you. All in all, super great place and experience.

This has become my go to spot for gyros. I’ve tried some others in the area, but this one really is the best. Their meat is well seasoned, the portions are huge and they’re always quick. It’s open late and never crowded. A great spot for a quick bite.

I am actually astonished at how I don’t have a review posted for this place! This spot has been around for a few years now, when it first opened I was a bit wary, but over the years I have come to love this place! I would come home really late from concerts, events, etc, and this would be the only place open. I grew to rely on them, as they have falafel, my all time favorite dish. The first time I came here was with my dad, and we ordered some stuff to bring home. I got a falafel sandwich, and he got two orders of chicken and rice. I was pleasantly surprised, as the falafel was really really good. You also get to pick salad options; they usually have different lettuce, peppers, pickles, and sauces– it changes weekly. The price has gone up, from $ 5 – 6, but I don’t mind paying an extra dollar for falafel I can’t get at the cart. Since I have been here so many times, I am good friends with the staff; they are courteous, remember my orders, and overall very friendly especially at 2−3am! The only thing I have noticed after coming here so many times is the quality has fluctuated. Sometimes the chickpeas were too hard and were either sitting out too long or not fully cooked. They sometimes don’t cook the falafel for long enough, and it ends up being soggy and breaking apart– so you need to tell them to fry it for longer. This is still the only reliable late night spot, the munchie spot, and the falafel spot all in one!

Good price and great operating hours. The food is greasy, and communicating with the staff in English can be a challenge.

I have been here a few times before, the place is clean and offers options to your gyro platter. Better options then the halal-cart across the street. If you compared the two I would prefer this place. However, on the scale comparing to other gyro places and carts, this is just about average. Hence the 3 stars. Their options one food choices and being able to combine different veggies and salads it’s great. And offering other alternatives in meal options to meet the communities flavors is great to both business and the buyers! Must try their chicken somosas!

If you are up for a good gyro, falafel, rice and salad platter, this place is great. With Minimal seating, it is mostly a take out place. While they do not accept credit, there is an ATM on site. The food is really good and the prices are excellent.

I come here for the the halal style chicken or lamb over rice. It’s cheap and delicious and the portions are large. It is what it is and it does it well.

I’d love to actually review their food but they canceled my seamless order stating I didn’t meet the minimum. My order was about $ 12(above their $ 10 minimum) and they waited 35 minutes to cancel it so I sat here hungry the whole time.

I love this place. I have lived in the neighborhood for two years and never tried it because I didn’t think it looked like anything special. However once we tried the lamb gyro(on pita), my wife and I can never have enough of it! That’s the only thing we had so far but it’s been consistently great(we had it 3 times). The gyros have been delicious and prepared with a lot of care. The lamb is pretty good and the toppings are of quality and interesting(chickpeas and jalapeño in a gyro? amazing). If you love gyros and halal food, this might be a little gem to try in Kensington.

Frozen burgers. Rubber fries and something that they’re calling a chicken gyro with watered down«ranch» instead of tzaziki. And to top it off, chefs choice ketchup. But who are we kidding, the don’t give a shit.

This was the only place that had a 24⁄7 sign outside which was a plus so I always have a place to go after my late night gigs. I came during the afternoon and just wanted to try it out and see how it ranks with other halal spots. I can already tell by the first few minutes it was not going to be anything spectacular. For a halal spot they took a lot longer than usual to prepare my food. It was a little saltier than what i was accustomed to and nothing special with the«white sauce» either. This will probably end up as a «last resort» or «when im wasted» spots to hit up when going home and im in need of some food in my belly. sorry Gyro King… I might take another chance with you soon but not too soon I hope.

the lunchtime installment of payment for doing repairs at my parents’ house ended up being Gyro King! I had passed this place many times back in the day when I lived at home, but never stopped in until now. my dad and I had intended to go to the cart on the opposite corner, but that guy was out of falafel, so here I ended up. ordered 2 falafel sandwiches. $ 4.00 each(«my friend, I give you good price!» as some Unilocalers have been privy to hear me say) for 5 spheres of falafel on a huge pita; threw in some salad, some hot peppers, red sauce, white sauce, and a bit of hummus. the price was right, and service was fast and friendly. what I liked was how it was somewhat similar to how Subway and some other places array all your options in front of you: various salad types, peppers, onions, sauces, etc and let you pick. when we got home, I demolished the whole thing. falafel was crispy and flavorful, and the sauces had mixed into one epic taste-gasm. HAILTOTHEGYROKING, BABY!

Uhhh… Yeah… I’m down with cheap food and I have eaten street food in Taiwan before. This place is ridiculous. First, the people that work there have no idea what you’re ordering ever… They don’t seem to care that much about what you’re saying which is a problem when you want something made a certain way. Second, it takes FOREVER for them to get the order together and they still have no idea what you’re ordering because they’re too busy staring at the TV. It really shouldn’t be that way ESPECIALLY when there isn’t anyone else in the restaurant. I ordered the gyro which I would think was their specialty since the name of their place is gyro king. It didn’t taste that great. I also have tried the chicken kabob and it too wasn’t really that amazing. I think if I was drunk and it was late at night this place might taste good but I also think that White Castle is amazing when I’m drunk. Third, after eating my stomach was not happy and I think I might of gotten food poisoning. The only good thing I can say about this place is that it is open LATE or 24 hours. Note I’ve tried this place more than once and every time I’ve gotten sick. I would suggest going to the cart that’s across the street… They’re AMAZING!

Street meat good, only in a store. Tons of food, lots of salad and sandwich topping choices. I had the lamb gyro platter, $ 6 and enough for two people! If was good stuff.

Tough reviews here, wow! I was looking for a Greek joint myself but they’re getting harder to find outside of Queens. Anyway, I had«Gyro on my mind» so I ordered the lamb gyro. No shortage of meat here. You could barley roll it up. Meat was tasty, veggies were so-so. Overall, considering the area and the price($ 4)…not bad, not great but not bad at all.

Upon returning drunk from Manhattan three nights in a row we ended the evening with a stop at Gyro King. This place is open 24 hours; which has got to be the best thing going for it. We had the same cook for all three nights; tall guy with a mustache. I would agree the meat might have been overcooked, and pretty damn salty. However, everything accompanying the meat was delicious; rice, the different salads, olives, tomatoes, and sauces were damn good. I had the shwarma plate the first two nights and the super combo plate(can’t remember the name) with chicken, lamb and falafel on the last night. It was a giant styrofoam container of goodness when drunk at 4 am. I would come back again.

My wife and I found ourselves a little hungry while walking toward the Church Street F train stop. The name Gyro King caught my eye, being a fan of Greek food, but closer inspection of the signage revealed this was a Halal grill joint. I’m fine with that, as well — Middle Eastern fast food is good, too. My wife was intrigued by the promise of an $ 8 plate lamb chops and rice. We decided we’d split the plate for lunch. The lamb chops weren’t the quality of what you’d find in a good restaurant(at three to four times the price): shoulder and round bone chops here, not rib or loin. They were nicely marinated, which left them flavorful(if a little salty). I will go along with another reviewer who stressed how heavily they grill the meat here: there was some char, and it was more well done than I’d personally have cooked it. Far from perfect, but after a few minutes we hadn’t left a scrap of meat on the bones, and were satisfied. The accompanying seasoned rice, salad and pickles were just fine. If lunch for two had been, say, $ 15 this would be a one or two star review. But the $ 8 plate was easily large enough to share(three decent size thin cut chops), and tasty enough that I’d just consider this place worth another visit.(I’d request the gentleman at grill char the meat a bit less enthusiastically next time, just to see what that gets me). Bottom line: This is a two star joint that picks up a half a star for being a good value. I’m being generous rounding up to three, but can afford to after getting a perfectly acceptable lunch for two for $ 8.
