H&R Block

Made an appointment online for the afternoon. Got there on time and had to wait a few minutes to be attended to. The two Latina tax preparers manning the front desk, mumbled «la China» in my direction as if I was Chinese… It’s 2015 people! Not every Asian is of Chinese descent. Their outright ignorance/​racism and lack of customer service made me shake my head, there was no way was I going to stay and get my taxes prepared here. On top of this, the woman who was supposed to prepare my taxes wasn’t even in the office, and wasn’t expected two hours after my designated time.
I ended up leaving and did my taxes online. Glad I did that– H&R Block is notorious for overcharging customers and they hire not the brightest of lights.
Save your time and go somewhere else!

Useless waste of time. The «tax professional» barely knew his way around a computer, printed out a bunch of stuff that I already knew or didn’t apply to me, and basically told me to go home and do everything myself. Thanks, guy.

Absolutely the biggest waste of time and money EVER! We usually use turbotax but this year I am 1099 for the first time and didnt want to do it on my own. Our tax rep barely asked us any questions at all about our tax situation, had us total up our own deductions and was texting on her cell phone while i was tallying up my deductions, every time i had to run a total. Are you serious? She refused to enter my bike expenses as a deduction because I didnt use it client to client, even though i said specifically, it is used for work. (this is an important detail later) finally after a miserable however long, she tells us we owe, not how much, just «okay, you owe» She then had to ask someone else for advise on how we could pay. At the end it cost $ 344 and slightly more on my tax bill than when I did it myself on turbotax but I swallowed it. I didnt want to kick a big stink. But really what did I pay for here? I could have done all of this myself at home and found these answers out myself. Which I did. I had to go home, go onto the IRS website and dig. Clearly I paid someone else do this for me, paid someone ALOT of money to do this for me. So we’ve efiled at H & R Block, went home and paid the taxman and two hours later we get a missed call from the branch manager advising us that the cost of maintaining my bike was in fact a deduction. About $ 500 in deductions and thus prompted me to write this Unilocal review. Our return has already been filed! We had already paid the IRS online. Exactly what did I pay you for? Right, $ 344 for an impersonal, incompetent, disinterested «tax professional» to do data entry and text for 35 minutes or so. I remember my much younger self going to H & R Block to do my taxes and never looking forward to going back the next year and now I remember why.
