Wonderful service, great music, fair price and excellent attention to detail. I walked in, sat down, and before I could tell him how I wanted my hair cut, he asked what I did for work and knew exactly what to do. That’s a master craftsman at work. This will be my only barbershop in NYC.

Moved to the neighborhood and was desperate for a reliable, customer service-​focused barber. Carley is really great and takes his job very seriously. The vibe of the shop is relaxing.

After getting my haircut from Carley tonight I felt like a million dollars. Haha. Carley is definitely a well versed man who believes in customer service before anything. I recommend this barbershop to many that are passing by and need a fresh cut or who are living in Bedford Stuyvesant.

When I got to Heritage, Carley immediately made me feel at home. He acknowledged me, the time my reservation was for, thanked me for coming in and appreciating the fact that it was freezing outside. He even offered me a beverage.
Carley was personable, and showed genuine interest in what I was looking for. He was observant and communicative when assessing my current hairstyle and set us up for success. The cut took around a half hour, and it looks better than most of the places I’ve visited have been able to do.
I ended up paying $ 22 plus tip. Great guy. Great Jazz atmosphere.

Just moved to Bed-​Stuy and the first thing I was looking for was a barber. Unilocal,thank you for leading me to Carley. I showed him a picture of my last haircut that I liked and off he went. He knows Asian hair and even better, knows how to make you feel at ease. Didn’t feel like a haircut for me but a conversation with an old friend. Haircut was over before I knew it. My hair looked better than the picture I had shown him. Carley’s an all-​around great dude and one hell of a barber. Get your hair cut by him.

Haven’t had a great haircut for sometime and Carly came through. As long as he’s cutting hair, I’ll be going to him every time.

Been looking for an old school spot that has a new school mentality and I’ve found it. Clinton Hill/​Fort Greene has a bit of a shortage in terms of places I’d like to check out and I feel like I hit the jackpot. Carley is knowledgeable, nice, and personable off the bat and I’ll definitely be coming back.
Also the music is a huge plus!

Such a classy place. The folks are nice, the wait times are no longer than 20 minutes, and Dexx gives the best fade known to man. Highly recommended for someone who is extremely serious about their time and their look. Make sure you look them up on
and book your appointment before hand, when its your time, you’ll walk right into the chair. It’s like the barber is waiting for you.

Charly is an order of magnitude better than any barber I’ve ever had.

My husband does not know how to get a haircut. He walks in, says «shorter,» and lets the barber go to work. We had a great place in Chelsea, but after we moved to Crown Heights, it seemed too far, too expensive, too hard to schedule after work.
So I checked Unilocal and sent him to Heritage. The reviews are right — this place is absolutely wonderful. Consistently great haircuts, better than what he was paying twice as much for in Chelsea. The atmosphere is comfortable and low key, and the barbers are just cool. And when my husband decided to grow a beard, they gave him some good beard trims that prevented it from getting scraggly. They keep him looking handsome, and he still doesn’t know what «layers» are.
Love this place, can’t recommend it highly enough. But make sure to make an appointment, because some times they get backed up with walkins.

He really cares about the quality of his work and his clients so you probably are going to wait a little but that’s not a problem since the music is really good.

Look if you’re looking for a real master barber, come see Carly. He’s the last of a dying breed. He can cut any kind of hair including my stiff, uncontrollable, wiry, Asian hair.
If your looking to get a decent haircut at a Russian factory that’s just trying to churn out volume for $ 15 dollars you have plenty of options all over the city, but Carly is frankly a huge step above those places for just a couple more dollars– and the experience you get is one of a kind– especially at the price he charges.
He greets you when you come in, always has some good music playing, and he will actually LISTEN to you when you tell him what kind of haircut you want. He might give you some feedback on what works and doesn’t work with your hair.
Then when you get in the chair you get some good conversation or you can just sit back and enjoy the music.
Carly will take his time with your cut. If you need to be out in 15 minutes don’t come here. If you have time to enjoy the experience, this is the place to be. Carly is all about the details, he will go over a fade again and again until it blends just right. He steps back, examines his work. Someone else waiting? He won’t rush to get you out just to get them in. Whoever is in the chair gets his full attention.
So yes the caveat is if you’re waiting, you may have to be patient, but understand that when you get in that chair you get the same treatment.

Simply put, an experience that you need to have for yourself to believe.
Carley is a true master of his craft, and has created quite the establishment.
Everything from the carefully curated music to his obscenely comfortable chair, Carley wants to make sure that you relax, have a good time, a great conversation, and leave looking fantastic.
He is meticulous as can be and will make sure to collaborate with you on your look, and will make sure that you feel comfortable and confident with what you are working with.
Never going anywhere else. To say 5 stars is selling him short — there’s something intangible here.

I was going to hold off on writing this review because hair regrows, but what was done today is unforgivable. I’ve never been so upset after a cut. I’ve been growing my hair for about six months, having one recent cut since October. I have also been growing my beard for about four months with minimal trimming and maintenance that I do on my own. I was keeping a natural yet maintained look. I don’t like unnatural trim lines all over my face.
Let me preface this by stating that I went in for a hair cut, not a beard trim. What I received instead was a complete butchering. I usually like to give my stylist a lot of freedom when it comes to my hair, but this time I decided to be very specific with what I wanted since I had been so patient with growing everything out. It didn’t seem to matter though, since Carley decided to start cutting IMMEDIATELY without even listening to me. Just as I was telling him I wanted to keep length on my bang, it had already been completely cut off. «Whatever,» I thought to myself, «It’ll grow back.» I had only been seated for seconds before this all happened.
The haircut can be forgiven, but what happened next can not. Carley started trimming my beard without even asking. Here’s some advice for all of mankind out there; you don’t touch another man’s beard without permission, ever. This should be universal rule; law, even. I was shocked but rode with it since he didn’t seem to be taking much off. Then, before I knew it, one side of my mustache had been completely snipped off, just like that, without warning, followed by the other side. Before I could even say anything, the electric razor was on my face, unnaturally shaping my mustache and beard. I had no choice but to roll with it, since snipping half of a person’s mustache off isn’t exactly something that can be remedied.
That is what’s unforgivable. It’s not going to be possible to naturally grow this mustache out since it’s been so heavily shaped. I’m going to have to constantly trim from this point on, until things look natural again. I almost feel compelled to shave the entire thing, after four months of patience, because it looks that bad, but I’m going to wait a bit and hope for the best. I feel like I was rushed in and out of the shop, and on a slow Thursday afternoon. Had Carley taken more time to listen to me, this could have been avoided. He should have also asked if I wanted a beard trim, or complete reshaping, before touching it.
It almost pains me to write this review because Carley seems like a really good guy. I’d like to give an extra star but looking at my mustache, which was actually cut crooked, because cutting it to begin with wasn’t bad enough, is preventing me from doing so. I planned to make this my new spot, but I don’t think I can return after what was done today. I didn’t complain in the shop. I even paid extra for the beard cut (let’s just call it that) which I didn’t want and tipped more than most people probably do because I’m a decent human being.
Even though I’m not happy, I don’t think Carley meant to do wrong. I just wish he would have listened to me before starting the cut, or asked before cutting certain things. I’m sure there are plenty of guys who leave here happy. Maybe barber shops aren’t for me, but I’m used to at least being listened to or warned before large chunks of hair are cut from my head. If you do do visit Heritage Tonsorial, my advice would be to have a chat with the barber before sitting down.

Carley is an amazing barber and he never fails to give an amazing haircut. Every time I walk through he always welcomes you with a smile. He has a very calm demeanor which goes a long way. I never have to tell him much in terms of how to cut my hair because I know he knows exactly what he’s doing. The best part of the whole experience is that it’s not rushed. Through the casual R&B/Old School Hip Hop/​Jazz music playing in the background, Carley takes his time making sure he’s giving you his absolute best work.
I’m impressed each and every time I leave.

Carley, the owner and sole barber of this establishment (as of now), is the reason why I had one of the best hair cut experiences of my life and will never forget. He brings a new style to the hair cut
experience, and charisma that I’ve been looking for in a barber shop. If he has never cut your hair before like he did to me he wants to get to know you and asks you the important questions to get to know you and more specifically how you want to your hair to be styled.
He is cool, laid back, and can spark a joyful conversation with anybody about anything. He is a genuine person and a master of his craft. He told me he chose to start Heritage Tonsorial in Brooklyn because he sees what the neighborhood is becoming and on the real not only wants to cut everyone’s hair but also learn from the type of hair he’s never cut before.
The addition of this barber shop only makes this area better. Go here and get a hair cut and you will not be disappointed.

I’m still very impressed with this establishment. My plans to grow out my hair were not working out and I was looking a little raggedy from skipping my plans to get it cut 2 weeks ago. Needless to say my hair needed some taming.
My hair is cut in a way that I don’t even need to use styling product. The way it lays on its own is just fine. The first thing I said when Carly finished was «this is exactly what I wanted.»
Go to this place and get a cut. You won’t regret it!

Carly, the proprietor, greets you with a wide grin as you walk in. Classic jazz plays from the front desk. He turns his attention – intense and frenetic as Jackson Pollock without the seeming randomness – back to the guy in the chair. You nod and sit, content to observe Carly at work. It’s fun just to watch. He clearly loves what he does. And he’s good at it. After 5 minutes, the guy in the chair stands, grinning, and shakes Carly’s hand. It looks like a firm handshake. A tip is given.
Carly beckons you over and introduces himself and pours you a Scotch. From there on, you have such a good time and get such a good haircut for an unheard of price (especially for what you get), you go home to write a 5 star review.
It wasn’t just the Scotch, either.
$ 22 and the promise of excellent company and excellent attention to detail.
