Housing Works Thrift Shop

Just made my second visit to Housing Works at this location to make a donation. It will be my last.
When asked what I had to donate I mentioned the Calphalon glass pan lid in the bag I was holding — and before I could continue was told «No» not without the pan as well.
They also didn’t want a new toy, in its original box, used Polo bath towels, or a new, in its original package, cozy for Corningware. From their attitude the items weren’t high-​end enough for them.
To be fair, they said they didn’t have the room to take everything. But a pot lid even as a replacement, is not worth it to them.
I’ll go back to Salvation Army to make donations in the future. I don’t really agree with their politics. But at least they don’t act like you’re doing me a favor by taking my old stuff.

I like Housing Works for the interesting and intelligent selection of books, which are priced like used books at Amazon or
. Just about everything else is just too much for used things, such as a previously-​loved canvas sun hat for $ 20. I’ve seen some cute items in the housewares section I’d probably buy at real thrift prices elsewhere. I don’t bother even looking through the furniture or clothing… too costly for what you’re getting. Yeah I know it’s for charity, and when I donate my own stuff I save the better things for Housing Works.

Whenever I go to this store my heart races in anticipation of the treasures i will behold. Here I have bought: an oscillating fan, a plant stand, baskets for organizing my closet, corningware, gorgeous bowls made in portugal, pretty mugs made in Germany, glass serving bowls, small ramakans, and warming trays, all of which I treated by spraying w rubbing alcohol in case, God forbid, there were bed bugs. I can’t wait to go back. Oh and the staff are sweet.

This is one of my husband’s favorite thrift shops to visit in Park Slope. I will always indulge him and peruse what’s around. Park Slope is a well off neighborhood and you can tell by the items available for purchase. There’s some nice designer labels, current cookbooks and tons of cool kitchen items. Also a great place to find unique furniture. My husband specifically comes for the records.
I have personally found a pair of absolutely adorable salt and pepper shakers. They are two white pigs, one with blue polka dots and another with orange polka dots. I put the pepper in the blue one of course.
Also one time when my husband was scrounging, he found the best Edith Piaf album where she performed live at Carnegie Hall January 13, 1957 (2 vinyl LP record set). One of my most favorite record purchases. I love playing this album on Saturday mornings while making waffles.
And recently I found a cool one piece with a printed tea cup pattern for $ 15. I love it! Not sure how the bathroom fieldtrips will work but sometimes it’s fashion over function.
And last but not least my husband bought me, «Paletas: Authentic Recipes for Mexican Ice Pops, Shaved Ice & Aguas Frescas by Fany Gerson». And now I can make treats in the summer that tie into my culture. Very excited!

I have been to alot of thrift shops in my time. And this one is decent. Its pretty small inside, but they do have alot of things. Although at times I will say that alot of the prices on furniture are on the higher side for things that are used and show wear and tear and damage. I bought my coffee table for 85 dollars from them. I purchased it because it was unique. Did I think I got a deal? Not really. But I understood that they are seeking to make a decent amount of money for charity. However, I will say that sometimes they price items as if they are antiques and request antique prices. If you are a thrift shop, there should be no reason why you have any items priced higher than 300 bucks. I went in weekend and saw that they had an dresser at 900 bucks. I mean seriously, why would they sell anything at 900. But i guess that how it goes. Aside from the pricey furniture at times, the place has good prices on clothing. BUt before you buy here, research the items you think you are getting at a discounted price, you might be surprised that you are only paying 10 dollars less than what it originally cost as I found out my coffee table. But its not a bad place.

Having never been to a Housing Works location & having time to kill, I decided it was worth stopping in. Seems to be a good place if you’re looking for housewares, music, books & odds and ends. I saw a decent amount of that stuff.
Location is tiny but easy to get through & not cluttered like some places. There were a few pieces that would fit a skinny chick like me but it was like hunting for diamonds. Some of the clothing prices were a bit much but it might be worth the trip if you’re a woman who wears a more «conventional» clothing size.

This place was okay. They were pretty low priced on most the merch. This was more on the shabby thrift side rather than the high end vintage, but it was still a cool little spot.

They had some high-​quality stuff, and I’m always a fan of helping fight AIDS, but most of the items here are waaay overpriced. Maybe I’m just spoiled by my native California (Bay Area) thrifting opportunities, but I’ve never seen so many shoes for over $ 75, and jackets in the hundreds, at a THRIFT store! I’ll probably not make it back there, although I did pick up a sweet duffel bag there (for $ 18… then the zipper popped that night and the strap broke… both semi-​fixable).

This place has an INCREDIBLE ever changing book selection, almost all for $ 3 – 5. Every time I come in I pick up at least one book that ive been wanting to read for ages. They’ve got cute housewares too, I haven’t really checked out their clothing selection. Come for the books!

Housing works dishonesty hides under a veil of generosity. In truth, they do not care about the customer and only care about the purported profits they donate to charity.
Beware, once you have swiped your credit card these thieves will hold onto every single penny you have given them regardless of what happens to your item between teh time of purchase and the time you receive your merchandise.
I went to the store, purchased a couch for 250 dollars, had it delivered for 120 dollars. Upon receiving the item, it was damaged. When i called to return it i was told that Housing works is a donation based store and that they do not take returns. Everything is sold «as is» and they are not responsible for ANYTHING that happens after they have sold you the item.
Additionally, after the fact, i found out that the employees in the store had full knowledge of the damage before i purchased the item which they chose to conceal to me so that i would make the purchase. After i explained this fact to their manager i was told that it is my duty as a customer to fully inspect whatever I am buying, and that as a result, it was my fault that i was receiving an item that i was unhappy with.
The housing works manager then gave me two options:
1. Live with the damaged couch for a refund of 120 for my delivery fee.
2. Return the couch for a refund 250 for the couch, but bear all cost of delivery for a loss of 200 dollars.
BEWARE of these people they are dishonest.

Hands down my favorite thrift store in Park Slope. There isn’t a ton of competition, but who doesn’t love finding a nice Banana Republic sweater for five bucks? Unlike many places, the curious here are also cool and very cheap. I bought a nice corkscrew for a dollar! I would recommend for any Thrift enthusiasts or Macklemore fans.

Housing works must be doing extremley well. I found several treasures just in the past month. Ive been in at least once a week for the past month and there is one thing I know for sure. If you see something you like, you must buy it now. This is a very popular locaton with decent furniture options that appear to be well priced. I’m glad its close to home so I can pop in whenever I feel like it.

As a San Francisco Mission District native, I may expect too much from my thrift stores, cheap prices, wide selection, some gems scattered through out the store as rewards for diligent shoppers, some decent housewares and BOOKS, loads of good cheap books.
This thrift store does not deliver. The prices are too high for used stuff and the selection is pretty minimal. If you are looking for a size 24 pair of premium used demin — this might be your new favorite place. If you are looking for anything else, you should probably go to a «real» thrift store.

Housing Works is my new favorite thrift store. The quality is more varied than at Beacons Closet, but you can discover amazing finds and you’re supporting a great cause. The organization is amazing, they do incredible work. For those of us who are kind of guilty shoppers it’s nice to be able to purchase things that are actually supporting great work.
It’s a small store, but really well stocked. It’s organized in this way where it encourages you to look for new items that you might not have been on the lookout for. The staff are amazingly friendly too!
I’ve been to several of the Housing Works stores and this is one of my favorites!

I’ve donated a lot of items at this location during the past several months (primarily clothing), and all of the staff I’ve come into contact with were very pleasant. I’m not in the market to buy anything there — but although it’s not a very large store, everything is well organized and there seems to be a good selection. I’ve only been there on Saturdays and naturally it’s usually crowded.

Hit or miss! I love thrift shops and whenever I stumble upon a Housing Works I drop in to find some deals.
If the clothes aren’t right for you on any given day check out their plates, cups, glasses, and prints. There are some hidden gems.

Walking over here early on Sunday afternoons is one of my new favorite pasttimes. I make a beeline for the bookshelves — constantly changing selection, and an impressive one, to boot. You just can’t beat $ 4 for hardcovers and $ 3 for paperbacks.

And…I scored two pairs of brilliant, barely-​worn shoes in my size! A pair of patent leather dark burgundy heels for work, and a beautiful pair of peep-​toe mesh camel/​pink (they look better than they sound) pumps that demand summer dresses. Each pair was $ 15, so I strolled out of there feeling quite happy with myself. Seriously, impeccable condition.
And that holds true for the rest of the store. Very well laid out, high quality items with great prices. A mix of clothing (everything is VERY organized) and household goods. The furniture is carefully culled, and in the moderate price range. Think $ 150-​$ 300. Not bargain bin prices, but the pieces are quite nice and vintage-​quality, so you do get what you pay for. Clothing ranges from $ 5-​$ 25 for the most part.
This is the 12^th location of the Housing Works Thrift Shop, and the first one in Park Slope. Housing Works is a non-​profit supporting efforts for those struggling with AIDS and homelessness. A very worthwhile spot to do some shopping, donate great items, and volunteer. I’ll be checking into the volunteer opportunities… as well as spending more money here, I am sure. It’s a good stop along 5^th Avenue with all of the other clothing shops and boutiques…
.and…whomever has a 9.5 shoe size and likes to donate… please, keep it up!
