I read all the negative comments and have to say I don’t think they are fair. I went today for a gel manicure and pedicure and was very happy with my experience. First of all it was only $ 34! Total! Second, it’s small yes, glamorous, no, but they were friendly, did what I asked and all for $ 34! Don’t believe the reviews on here, this place is small, not fancy and a GREAT place to get a manicure/pedicure. Much better than another salon I went to in the same neighborhood for 30% more.

Probably the most painful manicure I’ve ever had. When the lady doing my manicure pushed my cuticles back, it hurt so much that I asked her to be more gentle — although I don’t think she understood what I was saying, because she continued to shove my cuticles back. When she applied my polish, to clean up around the edges, she pretty much dug her sharp nails under mine. Ouch. Also, this place is gross. Nothing looks new or clean. There are definitely better manicures to be had in the area; avoid this place if you can.

This is the tiniest most cramped nail salon I’ve ever been to. I walked by it for over a year before I realized it was there. Let must preface this by saying I can’t speak to all the hate for the manicures — I’ve only gone here for eyebrow waxes. They bring you into the tiniest room but within 3 minutes I come out with perfect eyebrows every time. And its only $ 6. Based on other reviews, I don’t think I’ll be back for a manicure but ill keep going back for the eyebrow waxes.

Learned a good lesson– trust your fellow Unilocalers! If a nail salon doesn’t have good reviews and there are several others within a few blocks, go elsewhere for your services. I needed a gel mani and walked into Jin Beauty since it’s so close to me. It was empty, aside from 3 employees(2 of which were napping at their stations) and a teenager waiting to have his having his _______(whatever? I’m not sure) waxed in the other room. It’s $ 20 for the gelac, so I figured, even if it only lasts 10 days, as opposed to the usual 14 day, I’d give this place a try. After soaking, the lady scraped the crap out of my nails which seemed to take forever. Then she applied globs and globs and globs(yep– 3 globby coats of gel polish(never in my life!) of the thickest gel polish I have ever seen. It didn’t even look like the color I picked from the wheel. It resembled pepto, and it was everywhere– under my nails, on my cuticle, fingertips. I still had faith, thinking she would clean it up… NOPE! By the time I was done, over an hour had passed, since I had to dry each coat under the light and a topcoat, and my nails looked like my 5 year old niece polished them with actual paint, not nail polish. Disgusting. To top it all off, I was just going to leave $ 20 and a few singles, but she had to charge me an extra 3 or 4, I can’t remember, to take off my polish. Seriously? My feeling is that if you are going to be getting a new gel manicure, why charge me to take off the previous gel polish? I am getting the more expensive polish anyway! Many salons follow that rule. The manicure started to peel from the top of my nail after 2 days, but I was actual happy about that, so I could peel the endless layers of the awful polish off. My nails looked like crap afterward. This nail salon sucks and now I cringe every time I walk by. 0 stars.

I have lived in Carroll gardens for the last 17 years and i have been a loyal customer to Jin beauty on court street. They have taken a chunk out of my foot and then charged me for a pedicure until i spoke up i gave them another chance so tonight being mothers day i decided to have a manicure and pedicure it was a little late i agree but you could always say no — so i sat in the chair to have a pedicure and i have never felt so uncomfortable that i had to ask are you ok with this because i feel like i have to be rushed anyway at the end of this i told them i would never return again the service that i pay you for is in question i am in the service field myself and never would i put a customer in this position — i paid for the pedicure and even gave a tip but for the very last time such a very big disappointment

I realized at the last minute on Sunday that I had a business meeting first thing Monday and that my fingernails looked like I’d been hacking away at them with a mandoline(not too far from the truth.) I eyed this dodgy little(really little — maybe three chairs total) nail salon from across the street and decided to brave it. Listen, I am a slob. I am fine with — no, embrace — clutter and debris. This place is grimy. The nail implements looked like they had not seen a microwave or liquid sanitizer in hours, perhaps days. I was so afraid of contracting Hepatitis B that I told the technician not to touch my cuticles at all(to lessen chances of a puncture wound.) However, I’ve got to say that my technician did a pretty solid job. While some nail polishes are clumpy and unloved, the piglet-pink shade I selected from Essie flowed freely. Yes, the hand massage was lame. But the manicure only cost me $ 6(apparently up from $ 5 a few years ago.) While there I noticed many customers had purchased their own nail tools and left them at the salon. I don’t know how much nail tools cost, but if you are determined to get $ 6 manicures from this place I highly suggest you make the investment so as to avoid the numerous infectious disease that no doubt infest this place. I’d give it a 2.5 but as I type my nails are looking pretty good, so I’ll round up to 3.

I agree with every other reviewer that this place is a total dump. It’s crowded, there is clutter in the corners, there is not good ventilation and it just looks grimy. I hesitate to bring friends here because it’s the opposite of a relaxing spa atmosphere. But the price cannot be beat and they always do a good job. My fancy Dashing Diva manicure peeled off the next day, and the ones I get here always last. You will always be tempted to skimp on the drying time to get out of there as soon as possible, but I always make sure to put in the time at the cramped, uncomfortable drying station. If they upgraded the place, it wouldn’t be so cheap(which is what I keep telling myself about my apartment), so for a $ 22 mani-pedi, it can’t be beat.

This place is a dump BUT for the $ 5 mani — I go back every week. A few tips: *When I get a pedi, I also always ask them to re-clean the foot basin for me. *I always go to the same woman(glasses — maybe she is the«manager» or owner?) and she routinely does a good job. I have no complaints about the work she does. *I always always bring my own tools and polish with me — that goes without saying — but here, at Jin, it’s a definite safety precaution. *Make an appointment unless you are prepared to wait a bit.

Are you looking for a small, dirty salon that still charges $ 5 for a manicure? You found it here! Some of the women that do nails here will do such a terrible job that I am convinced a blind person can do better. It will chip within minutes of leaving the salon. On the plus side, there are a few others that will do a decent enough job and the manicure lasts a few days. Overall, pretty sloppy but for 5 bucks, what did you expect. I keep telling myself that I won’t come here anymore but the price sucks me in every time. The place is also filthy and while doing your nails they place your hands/feet on nasty wet towels. Great place to leave your dignity.
