A few words to describe this bakery: amazing, delicious, and out of this world! I walked in and was immediately greeted by the friendly cashier. She referred to me as sweetheart which gave them 2 stars in terms of customer service. The other 3 stars are for the taste of the 3 items I bought which were the chocolate croissant, strawberry croissant, and the crumb spice muffin. The chocolate croissant my sister said was rich in chocolate flavor and had a flaky exterior. The strawberry croissant was the same except for the chocolate interior instead it was a strawberry jam made with fresh strawberries. The crumb spice muffin had a nice taste and was really moist. I definitely will be back.

This place is depressing, I went there hungry and the only thing I could think of was a ham and cheese croissant, the guy at the cashier didn’t even know what kind of ham it was, I wanted it toasted and they only use microwave, wich I avoid. Plus his attitude was terrible that made me eat the croissant like it was simple dough… never again

Great coffee, wonderful fresh-baked treats. Friendly staff. I wait all year for their key lime pie.

Monday morning: I console my grumpy self by eating their amazing pain au chocolat. Wednesday morning: a hump day pick me up with their kouign amann(they’ve baked this way before it became hip) or monkey bread(decisions, decisions…). Saturday morning: run to Joyce to get sticky buns before they are gone. Did I mention they have seasonal macaron ice cream sandwich during summer?

Joyce Bakeshop NY Brooklyn Prospect Heights 11am Wednesday 14th October 2015 Three Stars It’s more of a bakery than a coffee shop. I had a Raspberry Bar($ 1.5) and regular coffee($ 2.25). The fruit topping was overly sweet and bit too jammy for me. The rest of the bar was crunchy. The coffee was bitter and bit burnt tasting. The inside was quaint and filled with moms and kids. I think I am just the wrong demographic for this bake shop.

Friend: Shall we meet at Joyce Bakeshop? Me: Oh… Friend: What, you don’t like them? Me: It’s just — their pastry is so incredibly good. And I’m trying to eat fewer sweets. Friend: Well, we don’t have to meet there. Me: Every baked good they make is just… irresistible. And I’m trying so hard to resist. Friend: No problem, we can meet someplace else? Me: OHGODLET’S MEETTHERERIGHTNOW

Good place to go for some tea and to do work. The people who work there are super friendly and are helpful if something doesnt taste quite right– they are quick to replace it, refund you, or help you figure something else to get. Overall a chill, comfortable place to go to get some reading done! Would definitely come back…

Had a cake from here for my friends bridal shower… OMG. red velvet cake that was rich and full of flavor without being too sweet, and an amazing(whipped? White chocolate?) Cream cheese frosting… I had to take seconds what an amazing cake. Not sure if I’ll ever be back in the area but if I am, you know where to find me

Wanted a savory snack but was attracted by the delicious smell coming out from this bakery/coffee bar. There was a very limited choice of savory snacks, as I could guess. So I chose one, a spinach and bacon tart, french style. Which means very buttery and pretty expensive. Over 6 $ for it. Service ok but not particularly smiling and bright. So here are my 3 stars. I am sure the sweet stuff is amazing. I’ll check next time.

I am solely giving this place 5 stars based on the black and white cookie. It’s so different than any other black and white I have had. The first bite I didn’t know how I felt about it but it was love at second bite. I have honestly craved it every day since I had it. I tried some other things like the brownie cup and to be honest it wasn’t very good. I thought the other things were a little bland but the black and white cookies makes up for it. It was a cute little shop too. I can’t wait to go back and try some coffee now… With a cookie of course!

I found out from a mutual friend that Joyce had opened this place in Brooklyn and I had to try it out. I had some cupcakes which were super yummy and the service was good. The staff working behind the counter were very friendly. I just wish Joyce was there so I could’ve said hello!

Friendly staff! I got a bunch of black and white cookies — and they were the best I’ve ever had. Decadently rich icing… An instant hit, too!

Hot enough coffee. That’s enough in my book to give it 5 stars, because my mum, Adele M. Is notoriously difficult to please. Basically, she likes her coffee so hot, you have to sign a waiver before its served*. It was a bonus that the coffee was actually tasty too, but it speaks volumes for their customer service. *ok, we’ve never actually had to sign a waiver, but we should.

It was a rainy and windy Saturday morning. A day to curl up and order in breakfast. And the rest of Prospect Heights was either recovering from a Friday night induced hangover or driving and laughing at the sight of poor me pushing a stroller in the frosty rain. Crossing Atlantic Ave is always a special treat to remember, though not at all like the pastry we devoured from Joyce Bakeshop. An unexpected reward for being early. In the rain and wind. And did I mention on a Saturday morning? We were diligently on our way to toddler French class. Passed Joyce Bakeshop and turned the corner only to find we were a bit too early as the day school wasn’t open yet. There was nothing else to do but turn back around and go into cozy and warm Joyce bakeshop. I believe there are no coincidences in life. If you meet someone, it’s because you’re supposed to learn something. And if an awesome little bakery, that smells of sweet perfection is just around the corner from where you’ll be every Saturday morning, then why not have a tart or two(or three)? Could spend all day drooling over the case of goodies, but that morning we chose an almond raspberry tart. It looks like a perfectly processed frozen pop tart but tastes like a delicious, best of the best, homemade if that’s possible pop tart. Mini-me and original me thoroughly enjoyed its flakey crust and sweet but not too sweet filling. The service was great, the environment clean and bug-free, and my mocha was delicious(even though I’m not a coffee person). I’ll definitely return.

You want a pastry that rivals ones you can get in Paris(I go there often for work) then check this place out. I live in Berlin full time where the customer service sucks beyond anything you can imagine, so service at Joyce doesn’t really bother me(I’m not paying for you to be my friend after all, a bit of American entitlement if you ask me). But there is a woman that works there(I like to think she is Joyce) that makes going in there worth it. She’s bubbly and friendly and is always chatting with everyone. Anyways, the almond croissants: OHMYGOD. If you can get one in the morning(weekdays only) when they’re fresh out of the oven, you’ll have an out of body experience I swear. The only other one I’ve had like that that even comes close is € 7 at Le Meurice in Paris. The coffee cake is incredible as are the other pastries(I’ve yet to have a bad one). I don’t really like their coffee(blame it on European tastebuds – whether that’s good or bad, I don’t know – but it hits the spot.

Everything I tasted was scrumptious. The black and white cookie lived up to the hype(I let mine warm up a bit and softened the icing). I also tried a caramelized croissant which was out of this world. The last thing I tasted today was the mocha latte. Sounds simple but it was one of the best mocha lattes I have ever had. There were tons of things I wanted to try but didn’t want to be too much of a pig– banana bread pudding cups, lemon bars and tarts, mini apple pies and also an array of sandwiches. I can’t believe I just discovered this Prospect Heights gem!

New to the neighborhood and looking for regular spots, I wandered in to Joyce because it looked pleasant and popular, but unfortunately I had a pretty bad experience. 1) Service was unbelievably bad. I ordered a coffee cake muffin and small coffee, then took out my credit card. In a rude tone(like«how dare you hand me that?!») the server bluntly said: «50 cent charge for less than $ 10.» Not«oh, so sorry but…» When I later asked for a to-go bag for my muffin(see why: #2 below), the server literally threw a bag on the counter and walked away. I looked at the others waiting in line and they rolled their eyes. Yay for more rude service. 2) They don’t want you to stay. After I first got my muffin & coffee I looked around for an outlet for my computer. Seeing none, I waited for the next person to be served and then asked the server where I could plug in my computer. She said(again in a rude tone): «We don’t have outlets.» I realized quickly that every outlet in the space has been covered over and that they do not want you to linger. 3) The coffee was burnt and the muffin was poorly made – all of the sugar and chocolate toppings melted into one spot so that I was eating one chunk of melted sugar and chocolate separate from the muffin itself. Some people like that but I call it bad baking. Not going back.

Real cute little bakery in Prospect Heights. Good pastries, cookies and cakes and the staff is really friendly. I’ll be a regular for sure.
