I only wish there was a 10 star option for broker Shayna at L. Nelson & Associates. She is simply fantastic.
My husband and I were in desperate need of finding an apartment. We found ourselves in a horrible situation with an apartment that we just rented on June 1– only to discover that in was uninhabitable the next day. Even with it being an emergency, we didn’t want to settle on what we wanted for our dream apartment.
Around 5pm last Saturday we gave her a call and told her our situation and what we were looking for. She recommended a listing and I’m not joking– she showed it to us in less than an hour– we fell in LOVE. If you are a New Yoker, you know that NEVER happens-you’ll look and 50, and 1 is «Sigh. OK, I guess I can make this work».
Although L. Nelson & Associates and Shayna were closed for the next two days, she worked with us in securing the apartment and all the necessary paper work and expedited the process. Just a few hours ago, we signed the lease to our beautiful, dream apartment and have closed a horrible chapter with such bright, new and exciting beginnings!
So here I am, writing my first Unilocal review ever, with keys in my purse to the most perfect apartment for my husband and I, feeling more secure than ever in this crazy Brooklyn real estate market. We feel like we have truly hit the jackpot.
Yes, the new apartment is fantastic– but in truth, it’s not about that. We felt like we were herd, that we were important and that we mattered to her. It didn’t feel like it was a «deal» to her– it was about finding a perfect home for us. Not only did Shayna have the utmost compassion for our situation, She MADE IT HAPPEN. Tonight and for a long time to come, we feel so blessed for the work of Shayna at L. Nelson & Associates. THANK YOU!

Having just signed my lease in Ft. Greene, I can say I had a great experience with L Nelson. After hours of scouring Streeteasy, I found their listings to be the most on point with my needs. The broker I met with showed me several listings and never once pressured me to make a quick decision either.
Though I hope I won’t have to move again any time soon, I’m sure I would use these guys again!

I see that many people had a great experience with Ms.Shayna. My experience was totally opposite. When she took us to the first apartment, she could not open the door, start making calls and texting and still no access. My husband and I were stood around for a long time and she could not let us in afterall. Try to go to the next apartment and she was so confused with directions, not knowing the apartment numbers and had a rough attitude against me. Maybe because I told her that I have a bad credit? I don’t know… But she was very UNPROFESSIONAL & RUDE.
Never ever again with this company, very bad energy!

Dedicated to finding an apartment in Fort Greene — the ‘hood my husband and I have lived in for the past five years — we scoured craigslist and spoke to brand-​name brokers in the main hub of Lafayette and Fulton Street but everything was either too tiny or ridiculously overpriced. From misrepresented listings to measly two-​bedrooms that were more like studios we were ready to give up the hope of staying in the Greene. Serendipitously we stumbled upon L Nelson and I instantly felt a great vibe from the ladies in the office. Shayna, our broker, showed us one apartment and that was it – we were in love. She made the entire process of applying for the place and getting our paperwork in order less daunting and seamless. I would highly recommend these amazing ladies, who definitely have the edge on the best cribs in the area.

Highly recommended for finding exclusive listings in Fort Greene. After dealing with pushy brokers and going on apartment viewings with multiple applicants, meeting Shayna at L. Nelson was a breath of fresh air. She is extremely helpful, always available and responsive. She showed us two apartments without a hint of pressure or pushiness. The next day we decided on the first apartment largely due to the pleasant experience we had in dealing with this brokerage. A definite recommendation for anyone who is looking to rent in Fort Greene. L. Nelson seems to have a better representation of listings in the neighborhood than a lot of the mega-​brokerages, and you’ll probably get better service, too. Our broker was great about helping us navigate my specific tax and credit situation (I am a recent arrival to the US).

Shayna rented me and my boyfriend a great two-​bedroom in the heart of Fort Greene. She has great knowledge of the area, and did an amazing job shepherding us through the application process. She was responsive and honest, and we’re happy not just with our new home but the whole broker experience.
