I don’t get why this place has bad reviews. I guess people are too picky with their Mexican food. Went there on a Thursday afternoon. Got a half pitcher of frozen mango margarita for $ 20. Me and my girl refill our cups like four times each. Definitely a good value. We order the sizzling fajitas with chesse and they were amazing. I had the shrimp(the shrimp where huge) with chicken and she has the steak with pork. The food was so great we are planning our next meal there already.

I ate at Mezcal about a week ago. It was actually my third time patronizing the restaurant. On my second visit I ordered a beef burrito which I REALLY enjoyed. The meat was very tender, so tender that I couldn’t wait to return. Well, I returned months later, and it was blah. I wasn’t impressed. The food was not bad, nor was it great. The drinks are on the strong side, so that’s a plus! Overall, I think I’d return. It was probably just an off night.

Not as tasty as used to be. Had chorizo burrito with black beans tasty though refried beans on side and yellow rice. Didnt taste superfresh. There is lots of Mexican in BK so its important to step up your game.

Went here late October, service was garbage, they barely come around, I had to wait 15 minutes to ask for a straw and condiments. The waiter has an attitude(I dunno maybe he does not want to serve people of color or he doesn’t like his job! either way not my problem). The food quality has gone totally down! usually the chimichanga’s are well made this time around was sloppy with too much cheese. Our Margaritas were garbage, watered down. I need to find a new spot, they’ve become complacent and low key prejudice with the service and quality.

I try fajitas everywhere I go but this one was quite flavorful and full of delicious surprises. The Nejayota Fajita was with sirloin steak, scallops and shrimp sautéed with spinach, garlic, baby corn and chopped tomatoes. OMG this was so damn good. I speak three other languages and Spanish is not one of them… and I live in NYC. Weird. Since I couldn’t pronounce the name of the fajita I asked the server and he told me and I when I didn’t say it out loud he says to me… are you gonna try it or just ask me? I liked that about him. Because that’s something i would say to someone. Great service and amazing food.

Coworkers and I decided to come here for dinner and drinks. We waited about 15min and were seated inside. It was very crowded and not much room to move. Once we sat in our seats, they told us they set a table for us outside where there’s more space. Went outside and the tables were against the wall and there weren’t enough chairs for the entire group. Waiters stated they would return with more chairs but never did. We basically waited for other people who were finished with dinner before we took their tables and chairs and rearranged the area that would fit our group. Service is horrible throughout the entire night. Took us an hour before we got any water even though we requested it multiple times. The waiters kept ignoring us most of the night so it took a long time to get anything. We waited about an hour for our food and we talked to 4 different waiters to ask about our food. At one point, one waiter asked if we asked for the check when we still didn’t get the food. The food wasn’t great but we were willing to eat anything since we were starving while waiting for the food. They gave us a pitcher of margarita for half price. But it was the small pitcher for our large group. They ended up giving us free tshirts to apologize for the inconvenience. Would not come back here and would not recommend this place to anyone.

Eesh. In short, don’t go here. Bad food(tasted like store bought and microwaved), bad drinks(Michelada was warm and had no ice in it). One good thing — servers were nice. Doesn’t make up for the extremely disappointing food.

I am giving this dump 1 star bc I don’t have the option of giving it less than that. Long story short … EVERYTHING about this place was terrible … From the service to the food. DONOT waste your money. You are better off going to Taco Bell. We literally thought we were being punked.

A friend and I chose Mezcal based off its bright, fun-loving design and color scheme. Once inside, the mood was quite the opposite. Mezcal seems more appropriate for a date night. While the menu is incredibly large, the variations in each type of item are bizarre. I wanted was a burrito with beef and vegetables; but the options for burritos, fajitas, etc. were all either totally plain(just cheese) or absurdly complicated($ 25+). I ended up with fajitas and was pleasantly surprised by the serving size and inclusion of some fixings the menu hadn’t mentioned: guacamole, rice, tomatos, lettuce. Unfortunately, the poor quality of the meat in terms of both fattiness and toughness made the meal unenjoyable. The spice levels were also strange. Chips and salsa were on the table, and that salsa was a tear-jerker, yet my meal had no spicy flavor whatsoever. I’d give Mezcal a second chance for drinks, however. They offer a long list of tequila and rum brands as well as some interesting flavor combinations for margaritas and daquiris. Mango and banana? Mmmmyissss.

Went here while looking around at the neighborhood(apartment-hunting). The décor is a bit frenetic — various beer signs, Mexican wedding flags, various maps and knick-knacks on the walls, plus all these weirdly painted /sculptural signs advertising their drinks and food. The technique, although pretty, was nearly impossible to read. The menu itself, in regular font, was legible and yet still somehow confusing. The whole place needs to go through a filter of some sort. So given the slightly crazy nature of the décor and menu, I was a little worried about what the food would taste like. I was pleasantly surprised. I had some sort of special burrito(Veracruz?) which contained some of the freshest tasting chicken, beans, and veggies that I’ve ever had in a Mexican restaurant. Seriously, the flavor and freshness was fantastic. My husband’s creamy shrimp something or other looked like a big mess, but he claims it was tasty. Overall, perfectly serviceable Mexican place.

First of all, I can’t imagine how someone could even think of given this place more than one star… and that’s being generous. The worst place I’ve been to in a long, specifically in the Park Slope area. The bathroom was filthy! Secondly, I have to blame myself because I should’ve known better to dine at a place WITHOUT the restaurant grade posted!!! It was too late by the time I realized it… The service was extremely too slow, there were only 4(yes, I counted) people seated at the table. We ordered appetizers that came out with our meal. Needless to say, I should’ve told the waiter to take it back because I think it was ALIVE, WTH! I ordered the quesidillas(however you spell it) and it was terrible. What mexican spot can’t make the basics!!! The bread looked like it came right out the package, totally not prepared… My kids had the chicken fajitas which had NO taste at all. I mean literally NO taste… like eating air, lol. The beans and rice looked like vomit. I mean I just can’t… Lastly, if you value your money and life, do not eat here. The décor looks inviting(nice outdoor seating) but it is soooo not worth it. Oh and one more thing, I asked to speak to the chef… LOL…tell me why on earth did some guy come out with the fishnet, shirt with only the first button buttoned, goatee and tattoos galore come out??? I don’t judge anyone, but his attitude and appearance was something like an ex-con…I’m just saying… *NOTETOTHEDEPARTMENTOFHEALTH: Apparently someone forgot to shut this place down*

I was hesitant to eat here due to the low reviews but it was the closest area with outdoor seating, so I gave it a try. The service was fine, nothing amazing but certainly not terrible like others here have said. My Enchiladas Mole was pretty good. I was with 3 other people and only one of the meals out of the group was not so great(the beef tacos). I’m from California, and I know NY isn’t known for having great Mexican food, so I don’t usually have unrealistic expectations. Others should also keep this in mind.

Went here a couple weeks ago with a group of friends and while it’s not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, it’s not the worst either. The staff was relatively friendly to us and was accommodating when we asked to sit outdoors with a large group. Biggest con were that they weren’t as knowledgeable about the food and drink as they could’ve been. We asked for some help with choosing margaritas and the waiter couldn’t really suggest anything other than the classic, even though there were many others listed on the board out front. Food was average with nothing special to note. I picked up the pork fajitas and it came out well on a sizzling platter, though it cooled off quickly since we were seated outside on a cool evening. My friends picked up combo platters, which were appropriately sized for their relatively low $ 12 price tags. They seemed to enjoy it though it wasn’t really visually spectacular to me. Prices are a little bit above average for me but still reasonable enough for an affordable dinner. I was hoping for a slightly more special experience here but it turned out to be a generic fair. It’s not bad but it’s just not really memorable enough for a return visit when there’s many other delicious choices around the neighborhood.

Let’s just Cinco de May-not ever go back! The wait for a table was endless + the pecking from the wasted«in-house» know it-all lady at the bar was unadulterated + the physical contact of where to stand while we wait for our table — too much contact + the lack of communication or breakdown of said communication due to lack of English + Horrible Wait Service + Watered down ingredients(watery beans) + Frozen food = is UNACCEPTABLE and unfortunately too many negatives for a repeat, especially with the over priced Mexican cuisine.

Terrible. Where do I start? I ordered a vegetarian combo. Every ingredient on my plate was straight from a can or a shrink-wrapped plastic bag. $ 12. The margarita tasted like kool aid. Fake, sugary and non-alcoholic. Oh, and it cost $ 8. Service was brusque and tried to upsell us on even more of their crap. Overall, worst restaurant experience I’ve had in park slope.

Terrible! Bland food plus inept and slow service means my friends and I are never coming back here. The empty restaurant during brunch time on a weekend should have been a tip-off but we were expecting others to meet us here. They had meant another place. Too bad we didn’t figure this out before we had ordered. For brunch they did not have coffee available, just liquor.(Not even juice?) For $ 11 you can order off of a list of dishes but they don’t come with anything and in fact, they got my order wrong by serving me an appetizer version of quesadillas instead of the brunch version.(Hello?) My friend hated her nachos, which were simply the tortilla chips they leave on the table but with scorched cheese on top. Then the bill took 15 minutes to come after we asked for it. Did I mention this place was completely empty? The waiters didn’t seem to understand much English, and this is not one of those authentic hole in the wall type of Mexican restaurants. I really did like the cool murals and pictures adorning the walls and the backyard patio is great for groups and outdoor eating. Those few charms are not going to lure me back here. Total fail.

The food here is mediocre at best — nothing really worth mentioning. The draw is probably the booze specials. Service isn’t the greatest as we requested more chips but never gotten any.
