Moishe’s Self Storage

From the moment you walk in, you can sense that this is the «real deal» and that you are in for a treat. We were greeted by the general manager, shown to a lovely table and personally assisted by him. Everything at this Montréal institution is top-​notch and while expensive, reasonable for the quality, service, ambiance and portion size. Everything we ordered, from the caesar salad and salmon tartare to the rib eye, onion strips and grilled asparagus, was more than enough for two and maybe three diners. Moishes is what steak houses use to be but sadly are no more. Other than perhaps Peter Luger’s in NYC, this may be the best steak house we have experienced in about 40 years. Obviously Montréal natives agree, judging from the crowds and families celebrating special occasions or just enjoying being together.

The price was right and the movers were great however the staff at the facility are unprofessional, rude & nasty. Read other’s comments regarding the disgusting bathrooms and all the fees they hit you with without notification.
I would never use them again!

I don’t know why the reviews are so divided here because my experience with Moishes so far has been excellent. With a three month minimum commitment, a free pickup was arranged. (To qualify for free pickup, the space has to have a max size of something like 5’x8’ or something similar. You can actually fit a lot in this space!) I ended up having a bunch more items than I anticipated, but the guys who moved my stuff (heavy boxes of records, two bookshelves, dresser, bed, etc) down 4 flights of stairs, never complained and worked extremely efficiently. (Their names are José and Oscar, by the way. I hope Moishes gives them a raise!)
The storage space itself is clean and well-​lit. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it felt safe, secure and like a good temporary home for my possessions.
At $ 100/​month with no pickup cost aside from tips (I tipped $ 60 each), I feel this is fair. (By the way, please tip your movers well — they work so hard).

My unit became infested with moths that I did not have before storing there! I lost thousands of dollars worth of stuff including my intaglio prints from art school which I can never get back. They were nice in that they provided two workers to help clean out the infestation, but they did not offer any kind of financial compensation. This happened 3 years ago and I’m still pretty angry about it. Do not store cloth or rugs there!!!

Stored my personal and business items for over a year and had to access the facility weekly. Never had an issue, always Great costumer service, easy access, large elevators, plenty of carts, lots of amenities for both my commercial and residential needs, reasonable prices (without hidden fees). Will defiantly recommend to others. Thank you,

I have a small business I run out of this place. My staff has to wait 30 minutes sometimes for only one barely working elevator. When it does work the moving company is holding the elevator up. So I basically pay my staff to wait for an elevator.
The have vents but took off the fans years ago and never replaced them so in the summer it is HOT and smelly.
My daughter once dropped a grocery bag of garbage outside of my unit and I was charged $ 10. No call no warning. It happened another time too when I accidentally left something on the loading dock which is always full.
The auto body shop across the street is always keeping their wrecks up and down the street so forget parking here.
Last month they tried to charge me over $ 100 because randomly they decided to start charging for boxes received by UPS. But they do not give you proper notification.
Their way of notifying you is by yelling into the speaker system sometimes which you cannot hear unless you are next to the elevator.
Going to use the bathroom is a nightmare. all the doors are broken and in the winter time the window is never shut so it is ICE COLD!
Most of the staff are friendly enough though but there are definitely a couple that don’t understand customer service.
Oh did I mention the elevator? be warned… you can get stuck on it.

They really get people with the free pickup. They got me. Over the phone they were very kind and helpful. They came the same day and picked up a bed and some boxes. When it came to getting it back they were rude and unhelpful. I was a little stunned that it would cost $ 300 to deliver the bed. The rep told me I can come get it myself. Thanks a lot.

It was the ease of pick-​up that really sold me.
They picked up for free, and a 5×7-foot space was around $ 100. You can bring your own lock, or they can take care of it all, which requires that they escort you to your storage unit.
I chose the latter, then decided to put my own lock on the space, which required doing the paperwork over again — a minor inconvenience, but not really a big deal.
Relatively efficient office staff and reasonably priced moving items for sale make it a straightforward, decent place. Would recommend.

I wish I could give 0 stars. First off, customer service is HORRIBLE. These people are rude and so unhelpful for no reason at all. Upon signing the contract I put down my credit card information to be billed automatically each month. After 2 months I get a call saying that my account is past due because I hadn’t paid. I explained that the card information was in my file for auto billing and to let me know immediately if there was an issue. Another month and a half went by before I received another call from the billing department saying that my account was now over 3 months past due and I was incurring late payment charges. At this point I was EXTREMELY frustrated because I told them to let me know if there was an issue and for whatever reason no one followed up to locate the card info in my account. If I had known I would have paid closer attention to my CC statement; however, I’m honestly too busy to go out of my way to look for a specific charge each month… anyways, after going back and forth through customer service several times they finally realized they had my card info and «as a courtesy» waived the late fees. Are you kidding me?
Without making this extremely long, in a nutshell my second issue happened upon moving out when I found tons of dead moths on the blankets that my furniture was wrapped in, as well as in a bag with my bedding and pillows (needless to say all of the latter had to be thrown out). When I called customer service to report it, did they apologize? Of course not. They said they would be «investigating» whether it was isolated to my unit or in others as well — essentially implying that I may have brought
my own moths in… actually, no. Bottomline, I’m sure others have fine experiences here, but in the event something goes wrong I’d advise storing elsewhere where the people working there actually care and will take responsibility.

Moving can really be a pain in the you know what especially when shopping around for storage and moving services. I like it when people are professional. Moishe’s at least makes things a little bit easier when finding a place to store my stuff. The woman at the counter let me see the rates and then asked a guy to show me two sizes that I would be interested in.
The elevator guy was really helpful and showed me three prospective sizes. I said I’d shop around and come back later. When asked about their free month offer as advertised on their Unilocal page they were willing to honor that as well. In all they have a good business. The facility was clean, the elevator guy was completely professional if I didn’t get a better deal somewhere else I would have gone with them. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Clean facilities and reasonable prices. They picked up all the items for storage from Manhattan, moved them to the facility and loaded them into the storage unit for me at no extra charge. Would definitely recommend.
