History

Established in 1979.

Mary & Dino Nicoletti started a Fresh Roasting Coffee shop called «Nicoletti Coffee» in 1979 after moving to the Bensonhurst/​Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn. Now 37 years later the surrounding area may have changed but the Coffee Roasting remains the same… passed down to the son Aldo Nicoletti… still located in the same location.

You want a great Sicilian slice, you go to L&B. You want a delicious cannoli, you go to Villabate Alba. You want an expertly roasted espresso bean to make coffee in your machinetta at home– you go to Nicoletti Coffee! Every time I walk by the shop on 13th Ave, the smell takes me back to my youth in Sant’Eustachio, Rome. Dino and Aldo Nicoletti run a Brooklyn institution and serve some of the finest restaurants in the city.

These guys have the best coffee in town. Fresh roasted beans, all done in house. Great customer service, be it unconventional, perhaps. I been all over Brooklyn and tried many a bean till I found these guys. We’ll worth the trip from however far.

The first thought than ran through my mind when I walked in was «wow». I just love the vintage Italian décor and the wide selection of coffee machines. You just don’t see a store like this in Brooklyn anymore.
I have to say the customer service that I received was different than the normal, they treated me like I was family. They offered me a cup of espresso (which they don’t sell) and I have to say it was really good. The coffee you purchase here is for the true coffee lovers.

Let’s start by saying this: there is NO coffee for purchase here to drink immediately.
You go to Niccoletti if you want homemade fresh roasted coffee beans to grind at home and use on your own. They also have coffee accessories for purchase (pots and such). It is a small dilapidated hole in the wall that I won’t be going back, and only went because my brother swears by their beans.
But don’t go expecting to chat or ask questions. When asked for more information about the bean roasting process, I was told it was «mostly magic» and unexplainable. I was then told a story about how female customers are not allowed bathroom privileges after a suspected drug-​user passed out and he had to call an ambulance and female family member to help out. So go with an open mind and if you want good magical beans.

A faded photograph, a shop stuck in time. The décor is old Brooklyn Italian, 18th Ave prior to my people invading it (sorry). Where Brooklyn native Italians actually spoke italian. They’re proud of Italy, and there’s pride in soccer.
The shop owner? Hilarious in his own right, eccentric/​eclectic to some, rude and unabashed to others.
When you want to buy some beans? You get a shot of espresso with a packet of sugar, if you want. Something he kind of pushes on you. It just happens, I laughed it off.
I like eccentric and unapologetic. Go back to Williamsburg or where ever the hell you transplanted from that’s not NYC if you’re offended by the original Brooklyn Charm.

I went to Nicoletto because I thought they sold cups of coffee/​espresso. THEY DO NOT SELL CUPS OF COFFEE OR ESPRESSO. What they do sell is some awesome looking/​smelling coffee beans that are roasted in house with this huge machine contraption that they showed me. While I couldn’t purchase any because I don’t have my espresso maker yet I cant wait to go back next month and buy some. The old man with the white beard in the front is that grumpy sweet guy that’s just awesome. He gave me advice on which machine to buy and told me to come back! Looking forward to it!

An old school Italian joint. People come here to shoot the shit and hang out. Fair warning, Mr. Nicoletti is chatty, buying some coffee can take about 15 minutes of banter, but it’s awesome.

This is an old school Brooklyn Italian coffee roaster. One of the last vestiges of old Bensonhurst. Mr. Nicoletti is a real character. He always offers me an espresso and chats me up when I come here. Warning, a transaction may take 10 minutes at minimum!
The coffee here is fantastic and not expensive. Look, you can go to Grumpy or Intelligensia and get good coffee. Those places are just appropriating what Mr. Nicoletti has been doing for years. And how many times do you honestly leave those places with a big smile on your face? Yeah.

The boss is an ass. I went in to see the coffee bean then I think the place is interesting. I look around and he yell at me and tell me don’t look around. You buy or don’t buy .I was only there for like 5 mins. worst service.

This place is quite fantastic, when you enter the store, it’s like you step back in time, it’s a quaint little store selling different types of coffee knicknacks.
The coffee beans is roasted in house. It was pretty tasty, although the best park was chatting up the owner and having him make me a cappuccino. They don’t actually sell coffee by the cup, but if you’re nice and buy your own milk, you can get your hands on one of the best cappuccinos outside of Rome!
There is a big black Labrador in the store but he is really calm and is constantly sleeping.

This place has been here as long as I can remember. I got some great espresso freshly ground up for me and chatted with the owner about what kind of blend he was selling me. I always remember him and his dog sitting outside as one of the great characters of 13th avenue growing up. I felt a bit bad for him though, we chatted for a second and he seemed scared to give out candy on Halloween because someone accused him once of giving the children something bad. I bet they were razor blades!

Awesome coffee! We get the roasted beans and they are the best — and such a good value, too — less expensive than Dunkin’ Donuts’ beans or Starbucks! I’m sad that we’re leaving the neighborhood, but happy that they ship anywhere in the US!

This place is as good as it gets. It has everything you would ever need as a coffee lover. Good expresso, americano etc. The owners are some of the nicest people you will ever come across and have me as a customer for life :-)
