BAD COMPANY, VERY BAD. I would like to share my personal experiences with Petro. Two years ago, as A LOYAL CUSTOMER WITH A CONTRACT, I spent over $ 30,000 on oil deliveries. I noticed over time that Petro’s price on oil started to climb. Their price was more than other companies. I called and was told that prices were going up and that Petro, a large company, would always be competitive. I had some concerns but was happy that I had a contract with a large (and what I thought was a reputable) company. Nonetheless, I began comparing prices, and what was 5 – 10 cents more became 10 – 15 cents more on a gallon. I made additional calls and reminded the Petro representative that as a loyal customer who spends a lot of money, I expect to receive a fair price on oil. Needless to say, during the peak winter season, I received a very large delivery and was charged an outrageous amount, $ 4.2825 a gallon. I was shocked, but before I did anything else, I went online to check on home heating oil prices in the tri-​state area to confirm my suspicion. The very highest price I found was $ 4.09 a gallon. PETRO HAD CHARGED ME 19 CENTS MORE A GALLON THAN THE HIGHEST PRICE IN THE TRI-​STATE AREA. In fact, the average prices were hovering around $ 3.94 or so a gallon, making matters worse. I was furious and called the Petro rep. She told me that the reason for the high price was that Petro had experienced an shortage of oil and had to buy from a middleman. So in other words, I should pay more because of their poor management, or the fact that they do not have proper storage facilities? I refused to pay more than everyone else for oil so I terminated my contract with Petro immediately. I also terminated my Service Contract with them, which brings me to another story.
During my Service Agreement with Petro, I needed repair work to be performed on the boiler. The boiler needed a coil replacement. The previous coil was 25 years old and had to be replaced. I of course called Petro. After speaking to Petro’s repair tech, and trying to negotiate the cost of repairs, I decided to have Petro perform the repair. After all, I had a Service Agreement with them and was assured they would provide a better price than others. They replaced the coil with a custom made coil for $ 5226.00, a lot of money but thankfully, the new coil should last another 25 years. THE NEW COIL LASTED ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF. It began leaking and I had to have it replaced. I called Petro to complain only to be told that the warranty was for one year and it had expired. They refused to accept any responsibility for their work despite the fact that an expensive repair that should have lasted decades did not even last two years. By the way, the company I used to replace the coil (with which I had NO CONTRACT) charged me $ 3200.00. ONCE AGAIN, PETRO SCREWED ME ON THE WORK THEY PERFORMED BY CHARGING ME $ 2000.00 MORE THAN EVERYONE ELSE, AND BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE COIL FAILED, THE WORK WAS POOR TO SAY THE LEAST.
I now have no contract with anyone. I buy oil online. It’s actually easy. I never have to leave the house. The best part of all is that I can shop for the best price, and have no contract. I save at least 50 cents a gallon on oil over Petro’s prices. I know this for a fact because my brother still has Petro. And when I need service, I also shop for the best vendor. Ironically, I never run out of oil, and I am never low (unlike Petro’s haphazard delivery service wherein you might receive 100 gallons when you need 1000). I always fill the tank and never worry. Because unlike Petro, I am competent and responsible. I would tell you the name of the site for fuel but I won’t. I don’t want anyone to think I’m pushing any particular company or website. I just want others to know how Petro treats its customers. If you have a story, please share. (By the way, there is no charge to do business on the web.) Please shop around and remember, you don’t need a contract to buy oil. There are many options. Whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM PETRO.
