Leading an active life is important on a number of levels. Exercise relieves stress, increases blood flow to vital internal organs, and helps you feel more energy as you go about your day. In short, exercise is not a luxury — it is a necessity that will not only improve your life, it will also lead to longevity. Exercise is medicine. But how do you exercise without risking injury? Proper program prescription is fundamental!
Here at Pongo Power we emphasize education and attention to detail. We will help you to utilize the principals of exercise science, so that you overcome the weak links in your routine, and move forward.
Naturally, your health and fitness goals are going to vary according to the stage of life you’re in. Pongo Power personal trainers are certified by the best organizations in the country. We will work with you to personalize your fitness programming — and help you to make exercise feel exhilarating and fun.
History
Established in 2007.
Really, what most people ask us is this: What is a Pongo? Here is one example of a Pongo: our founder — Elizabeth Pongo! Elizabeth Pongo learned about sports from her father, László Pongo. László spent many an evening after work, «playing sports,» with Elizabeth. As a result, Elizabeth loves sharing that spirit of adventure with her clients.
Elizabeth began training clients in their own homes in 2002. In 2006 she realized that although the intensity and focus of working out in a private setting was super-valuable, she had been missing the super-duper value of being a part of a community.
As a result, Elizabeth founded Pongo Power, Inc. in 2007. The team at Pongo Power love sharing the classical principals of sports science with their clients. All of this history (starting in 1975) is part of the bright green fitness studio in Park Slope. We truly enjoy teaching other people how to integrate exercise into their daily lives — so that being healthy and strong is a natural way of life.

Business Owner
Also known as, «Erzsi,» which is Hungarian for Lizzy, I’m the owner at Pongo Power.
You may already know that I get very excited talking about, «Kinetic Chain Function.» This is how your body exhibits (or applies) movement (kinetic) patterns (chains of events). Although some think this is because I love to sound smart; it is really because of my love of life. I was a psychology major at Middlebury College. It was quickly drilled into our heads, ahem; I mean, there we learned that you create your own reality. And how your brain does that consciously and sub-consciously is fascinating to me.
I am thrilled by movement. As a child I took to any kind of bouncing, bobbing, rolling, and sliding that I could engage in. Yet how to perform these activities without killing yourself is important. So, I am certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I look forward to sharing the excitement of applied science (both psychology and movement) with you!
