Description

Specialties

Shibui specializes in Jappanese Antiques, and more specifically in Japanese Cabinetry and Folk Art. Like our name implies we supply items with great patina and beauty. We have been in business for 15 years and carry a huge inventory of unique items. We have 19th century Tansu of all uses and sizes as well as baskets, ceramics and everyday objects.

History

Established in 1996.

Shibui began as a small business that was started as a way of supporting Dane Owen while studing at St Johns College in Santa Fe. He decided to sell Japanese art and antiques because he did not expect the business to last beyond the time of his studies. He knew when the business ended he would have some left over stock and thought it would be nice to be left with something he would want in his own home. The business grew rapidly from a small booth in a flea market with $ 250 in stock to what it is today. Because of the seasonal nature of Santa Fe, Shibui moved to Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn at the end of 2009, where we ran as a retail location inside a warehouse. In November of 2014, Shibui moved to our beautiful new retail location in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
