Shiel Medical Laboratory

My husband just received the first bill from this «company» for lab tests from March 2015 — over 10 months ago. He had gone to CityMD then and we’re guessing they sent his blood work to this lab. Although he paid all of his medical bills at the time, and we are never late on any of our bills, the first notice we got from Sheil threatened to send the claim to a collections agency. The bill is $ 20!
We can’t risk our credit score being affected right now, so we paid. This is enraging and extortionist, and we will avoid CityMD for this reason from now on. This «laboratory» should be shut down immediately.

Its truly unbelievable that this place still functions as a «business» when really its just a front for scam artists. They sent threatening emails with the opening «HOW IMPORTANT IS YOUR CREDIT REPUTATION?» and then say your bill has been handed over to collection. Just another horrible cog in the healthcare system machine in this godforsaken country. Gitty Kohn gets rich while taking middle and lower class people’s hard earned money. Truly despicable.

Shiel’s Billing Department does nothing. Patients automatically get billed for the entire amount even if the insurance company has paid the full. Shiel’s Billing sends DUPLICATE claims to the insurance company. Insurance company paid for the first one, but obviously, they are not going to pay again for the same identical claim. Then the patient gets charged for the full amount. It made me think that I was not covered, but I talked to the insurance company and I am fully covered and I even received paper work from the insurance company that it was paid for. I called shiel 6X already and they still send me this bill of $ 485. I am reading the other posts and there is certainly a PATTERN. I want to escalate this issue as high as I can. Does anyone know how without any cost. I am so so mad.

This place is so fishy. Stay away from them at all cost! they sent me a bill of more than $ 800 after 8 months for my maternity blood work. I don’t understand why the doctor uses them. They apparently overcharge, do unnecessary and couldn’t do the billing right. I’m wondering if the doctor (mine was Westchester OB/​GYN) get paid for sending tests to them.

SAME issues. They submitted a claim to my insurance company twice. My insurance company paid the first one, but rejected the second one (since it was a duplicate), so they sent it to me (5 months later). I’ve been writing to them for 4 more months with no response.
We can report this to the BBB right? PLEASE, medical providers — DO NOT use this lab.

I just received my first bill from this laboratory saying that I have failed to comply with multiple previous requests for payment. (I’m assuming this bill is from a normal checkup i had last Fall with my doctor.) i have always paid bills on time and they are threatening with this letter that their bills are affecting my credit score. This is really an awful company. I’m annoyed that I have to deal with them now and I hope no doctor ever uses this laboratory. If their billings are so awful, how can you trust their labs?

My husband has the same issue with these people. We don’t even know who they are and why we are getting billed from them. It did pop up on my husband’s credit report and we are trying to get it resolve but no matter what we do nothing is getting resolved. Scammers!!!

BILLING NIGHTMARES.
Back in 2011, I went for my annual check-​up and the bloodwork was sent to Shiel. Their billing department failed bill my insurance company and sent me an invoice. I called to resolve this but the customer refused to take my insurance info since she was eating her lunch!!! I called back. Again and again and again. I even spoke to several executives (all rude) who told me they would clear this up but now it appears on my credit report as an account in negative standing.
I fail to understand how patients need to penalized for their inability to bill appropriately. I would never go to Shiel for any lab work and have complained to my doctor who apparently received numerous other complaints from her other patients and finally decided to change labs.
This place is a mess, should be closed down based on the other 1 star reviews here.

scamming business, keep sending bills after already settled with the insurance, talk to you doctor before ordering any test and stay clear of this business at all cost

Yup, just like everyone else below noted, this place is one big scam artist.
First of all, I never actually went to this place. My doctor outsourced some lab work here, and then, the lab, instead of billing my doctor or insurance, apparently sent a bill directly to me. I, however, never got the bill because they sent it to an old address (my doctor where the labs were taken and where the visit took place had my current address).
Fast-​forward two years, and while trying to buy a house, I find out that I’m in collections over this bill (which took me quite awhile to ever figure out where the bill came from). I don’t understand how they can get away with this. They never should have billed me to begin with. And, it shows the date I went into collections as the same month they supposedly billed me. So, even if I had gotten the bill, I apparently never would have had the chance to pay it. I doubt one was ever even sent, quite honestly, as my mail was forwarded. Why/​how would I have not received it?

Shiel is a testing lab which has some work outsourced to it by CityMD. Shiel has attempted to fraudulently bill me a second time after I paid them and my payment was accepted.

They get 0 stars they are trying to scam me out of $ 229.96 of unauthorized test and they claim my doctor ordered them I have a copy if the test order and this test are not on it. The billing manager Kitty will not give answers as of why this test are there just tell me they were ordered by my doctor, clearly they were never ordered by the doctor I can read the lab order and I’m not blind. She recommended to get in touch with client services and they do not have access to the billing of patients. Don’t understand how can CLIENT SERVICES can not have any acces to this. Or why BILLING DEPT. can’t remove unordered test. So in this scam circle no one provides any solutions or are able to give an straight answer besides telling me the test need to be paid.
