Sunflower Child Care

My son has been with Sunflower Daycare at 8^th Street location for 3 months since he was 6 months old. I have done an excessive amount of research and visited several daycares in the park slope area before finally choosing Sunflower Daycare. My criteria for selecting a daycare where: 1) friendly, trustworthy, knowledgeable teachers 2) clean, bright, safe facility and 3) affordable price. I especially appreciate the daily feedback provided by Teachers Zekiya, Jasmen, Paola, Yutive and Janice at the end of his daily activities at the Sunflower. Natalie, as the owner, is responsive for all requests and is easy to communicate. This team prides through efforts to see my son thrive has placed my optimistic trust in their positive style of teaching. Overall, Sunflower Daycare’s bill is affordable on all of my needs and my son seems very happy there.

We’ve been sending our two-​year-​old daughter to Sunflower Playhouse location on Washington Avenue for over a year and we have been very happy with the care they have provided. She is always excited to go to «school» in the morning and see all of her friends and teachers. The teachers are warm, loving and caring and provide honest accounts of the child’s daily activities. Our daughter comes home with adorable art projects, singing songs that she learned during the day. The other day she started singing the days of the week and the months of the year, which she definitely learned at Sunflower! Since we have sent her there she has flourished. The Washington Ave. location is spacious with a sunny outdoor play area. Sunflower has been accommodating to our schedule and flexible with our needs. I would confidently and highly recommend Sunflower.

We wanted to like this place. In fact we wanted to love it since we were leaving our little girl there. Unfortunately there were so many issues in so many different areas we just could overlook them even despite the one or two girls working there being great. Basically if you want the place who looks after your child to be available and communicative with you this is not the place for you (No emergency numbers provided and email takes a minimum of 24 hours to hear back), this is not the place for you. If you want the person providing care to follow your instructions and understand that this is your child and not theirs, this is not the place for you. If you want a place that won’t keep your deposit that they demand in cash despite assuring you it was refundable, this is not the place for you.
After trying this place only a few times we picked up our daughter on several occasions to be greeted with a smile only to experience a full fit within 30 minutes of pickup. Now I understand fully that babies cry after dealing with 3 months of colic but it deserves to be said that this was out of the ordinary for her and never once had this experience when leaving her with a babysitter or family. Turns out they were underfeeding her and feeding her right before we showed up to pick her up so that she would be in a good mood when we got there. They also asked that we not just drop by to see our LO and observe the day care because it was a disruption to the program. (How much can you disrupt a four month olds schedule??? What schedule???) We suggested getting a nanny for a few months until our daughter had needed a less intense level of care at which point we were informed that we would owe two full months in order to not go there.
