Supercore

I was unsure if you could write a review for a restaurant after it was no longer open, but here I am typing and I feel like I need to recollect some very wonderful memories of this place as a sort of Unilocal epitaph.
When I first moved to New York over four years ago I was dropping off resumes and stumbled into this place. The décor and noise level seemed like a perfect opportunity to take a moment of repose, to collect myself and muster the energy to drop off another 15 resumes.
I peered into the back window, which revealed a quiet and peaceful oasis underneath canopies of bamboo and spruce trees. «This is it.» I thought to myself. Future meetings, work sessions, dates… Ideal in so many ways.
I’ll forever miss the new super health plate– a $ 5 meal of vegan well-​rounded natural ingredients, paired with a stellar iced Americano, or the occasional iced green tea latte on a fancy date.
Their lunches were a specialty. A variety of lunch options ranging from benitori to salmon to curry– all with rice, a lil salad, and a side of miso.
I can only hope that one day in the near future, supercore will open again and I will have access to that sacred, silent backyard solice.

I’m really bummed out this place closed. Their food was really good and they had a great brunch (with vegan options AND alcohol!)

This place us great! I just had the spinach and goat cheese omelette. The omelette was brilliant, though someone who likes the cheese to be on the light side wouldn’t be happy (there was *almost* too much cheese — and I adore cheese). The meal came with a small salad, toast, and potatoes. It was all good, but a couple of the potatoes were a bit undercooked. It was the perfect size though — not too big, not too small.
They have a bottomless brunch special for $ 20. I got the sake mimosa which was very, very, alcoholic. I can normally put away a good number of drinks at brunch, but I could only drink two of them here. I also don’t really like sake (unfortunate, that); the strong drinks would be perfect for a sake fan.
I’ll be back. Especially since this gem is near my place and I don’t need a reservation for Sunday morning brunch (very good if you lack planning skills like me).
For the hygienically concerned among us the sanitation rating is a ‘B’ (just FYI)

Great cozy atmosphere. Staff could be friendlier, but theyre the typical hipsters with the jaded attitude. Great lunch specials. I highly recommend the benitori lunch dish for $ 7 with miso soup.

Dinner at Supercore last night was delicious and very reasonably priced. The menu has a lot of different items and it is designed and priced for you to try several. The quality and taste of the dishes were delicious. Perfect for a cold winter evening. I definitely plan on returning.

Food came out quick, coffee was great. enjoyed the kimchi tofu plenty, atmosphere was great, staff was friendly and helpful. Granted this was a low key mid day lunch. I don’t know how this place runs at night. I had a great time and I would recommend for lunch, its a cheap trendy casual restaurant with cool young people.

Damn, it’s cold out there. Supercore offered refuge at a time where we had difficulty figuring out what we wanted to do for dinner. I think overall this was a good choice.
There was a window seat available even though we knew it might be a mistake. You never know if it’s going to be too cold or if the heat is adequate to warm the space. it was OK but it was a little chilly.
We started things off with a nice boiling cup of tea to warm things up a little. What a cup it was too. Must have been about 20 ounces anyway so that was a bonus. And the atmosphere. Supercore has it. Funky design and nice ambiance.
After we were warmed up a bit we decided on food. I had a Vegetable Curry: w/​brown rice that included eggplant, green pepper, jalapeño, onion, carrot tomato and celery in a chicken broth. It was very good and just what I needed. I asked the server the source of the salmon as I was considering it and he could not answer the question. All I wanted to know was if it was farmed vs. wild. It’s a fundamental question that any restaurant should be able to answer… or be willing to answer. What I got from him was, «I don’t know. The owner is very secretive about where it comes from.» I was like what? You have got to be kidding me. This was a major fail for Supercore. My mate had Meatballs: Homemade, 100% beef meat balls w/​tomato sauce, roasted potato and cream on top. When I asked him he said they were excellent.
One thing I will give them here. Even though it was apparently run by a very young crowd the music was decent and played at a reasonable volume. I can always appreciate that! Another one of the bummers there is they had no drip decaf. I understand that for some places it’s not cost effective but I hate decaf Americanos. Just do. It’s not the same. When you couple that with a refusal to say where the fish comes from you get only 3 stars. They are worthy of 4 but not with those things against them.

An eclectic menu that I might explore again. Nice vibe, mood and music on a Saturday night. Food was okay to good but the service, while polite, was slow and unresponsive. They wound up comping the appetizers so at least that was appreciated but main courses took about 35 minutes and appetizers took about 50!
Might go back because of the space but better get speedier service next time.

The patio is awesome, but the food isn’t really very flavorful. I like the Japanese style and fusion, but something just doesn’t click. Go here for a few drinks on the patio or by the front window, but not if you’re starving.

i hopped on the B62 which dropped me off right in front of Supercore for brunch. even though it was 1 pm when i met her, the place wasn’t very full. i guess hipsters wake up late, because the place got packed right in the middle of our brunch.
Supercore has a clearly Japanese influence and food style, although it also caters to the less adventurous by offering American brunch and entrée options as well. the indoor space is small but there is an adorable backyard in the back, with plenty of shade to avoid the sun but still enjoy the warm weather.
my friend and i were immediately enticed by the $ 20 unlimited brunch option, which allowed you to pick any entrée from the menu and have unlimited brunch drinks: sake bloody mary; beer with lemon, ginger, and honey; sake mimosa; and 1 other option which escapes me. if you plan on drinking more than 2 drinks (each drink costs $ 6), then i recommend going with the brunch deal. since my friend and i were both recovering from our prior night out, we skipped the option since we only had 1 drink each. i highly recommend the beer which is super light and refreshing with fresh ginger and lemon slices added directly in the drink. like a beer lemonade.
we were both looking for stick-​to-​your-​ribs hearty food, so it’s no surprise that i ordered the Beef Curry (stewed for 4 days served with brown rice and roasted potatoes) ($ 9.50) and my friend ordered the Meatballs (with homemade tomato sauce served with brown rice and roasted potatoes) ($ 9.50). both of us housed our dishes as soon as they came out and it was the perfect remedy for our minor hangover discomfort.

I was meeting up w a friend in the neighborhood and they were running late so I decided to pop in here to kill some time. I sat out in the Garden area and ordered me some Sapparo & cold tofu (which was so delicious!). Nice place, would stop by again for the tofu if I’m in the area.

This place exceeded my expectations! Went here with the boyfriend for brunch, he had been there once before and fell in love with the honey lime ginger beer and wanted to go back for drinks. I don’t like beer at all, but that actually tasted delicious! I had the Sake Bloody Mary which was served in a jar. Sold!
We didn’t expect the food to be anything spectacular. We were so wrong! I had the spinach with goat cheese omelet… talk about a foodgasm! Enough said. This meal was so shockingly good, and we fell in love with Supercore that day. The boyfriend has already returned for brunch and I will definitely be eating there the next time I’m in Brooklyn.
Now, the service is kind of slow but the great drinks and delicious food make up for that!

The food here was pretty good and very cheap. I had the Teriyaki Garlic Ginger Chicken (I think that was the name of it.) It was about $ 10. It was a small portion, but when you mix it with the rice they give you it’s very filling. It definitely wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was certainly tasty.
The dining experience, however, was a little off. While the atmosphere was nice, the door didn’t close all the way on it’s own so it was freezing! Whenever someone came in it would stay open until one of the workers noticed and came to close it.
Also, the service was incredibly slow considering that there weren’t that many diners. They cook right out in the bar area and it looked like they were cooking one dish at a time. When we were finished with our meal, it took about 15 minutes for someone to come over and ask us if we wanted the check.
That being said, it’s pretty hard to beat a $ 10 dinner.

I think Japanese pub food is one of the most unique combos. I had to try it.
Set to the backdrop of your standard future-​rustic city slicker style (exposed brick and dark wood), Supercore is classy and hip — and their menu is equally stylish.
We had veggie curry, olives, seaweed salad & fried tofu nuggets. All were satisfying and done well. We topped it off with hot sake & green tea cheese cake. The last bit was the only part I could have done without as it was a little dry — but I enjoyed the flavor.
After all that, our bill wasn’t horrifying, either. Overall, mega win!

A dying gem. Used to come here a lot in college. Circa years ago.
Backyard is still mystical and cool.
Prices are still on the cheap.
Got the Supercore something something special… It was boiled chicken and some sort of Asian feel.
There were bones! I know this demarcates authenticity but… but… made me want to go veg :(
The bones were just like, THERE. And I wondered what part of the body it came from.
Still, for $ 10 it made two meals and the taste was pretty good overall.
Service was laughably bad. Like, INSANELY inattentive.
Which is fine, but, this is New York and that shit is just WEIRD…
Not like I’m in Thailand anymore so — what gives?
I kind of feel like they’re not going to exist in a few months. Like its very on it’s way out. Don’t leave me, Supercore!

Love the style there. Dropped by on a hot summer day to cool off and eat curry rice and drink matccha tea. I love Japanese curry rice, it’s almost impossible to find it in the States. There were at least 7 places within Harajuku (where I lived) dedicated to curry rice, it’s a neighborhood that loved it!
At Supercore, the backyard was full of people with no seats left, so I ate at the front at one of the small tables by the bar. There were a few people at the front of the café, including a woman interviewing a bearded man. It’s a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, so definitely a good choice for place to do an interview.
The bartender and waiter were both really great. They were quiet people but very present and responsive. Meanwhile, the type of people there appeared to be in the age range of mid-​twenties to early 30s, and unavoidably hipster.
I’m definitely looking forward to dropping by again next time in Brooklyn.

For a C-​grade health establishment, they sure are uppity about side dish replacements.

Kimchi and tofu lunch special that’s so cheap they’re almost paying me to eat it, plus lax laptop policy, plus possibly the best iced tea ever to have iced or tea-​ed equals YAY I’M A FAN.
The only downside to the «lax laptop policy» facet was the large, lonely woman who felt like conducting the world’s loudest one-​person business lunch about 3 feet from where we were sitting, and the exceedingly friendly and polite atmosphere of Supercore made me feel like I probably shouldn’t stab her in the trachea with my dirty chopsticks.
Super cute back yard, too. «So friendly and cute, you won’t want to shank your fellow patrons for being loud, obnoxious freelancers with self-​esteem issues» — feel free to use that in your advertising, Supercore.

Supercore is SOOOO good.
Get your vegetarian butts over there, that’s all I gotta say.
I can’t believe I waited this long to try the place. A friend asked me to go there today, so we checked it out. Superduper japanese food options, with plenty of veggie choices, small plates, and yummy miso soup to go with it.
I had the tofu salad, complete with really fresh avacado, and light dressing. Plus the miso soup, did I mention how good that was?
I also got iced green tea, which was perfect for a hot day.
The place has a garden in the back, so I definitely wanna come back for that. It reminds me of the coolness of snacky around the corner. This is also a perfect date spot.
