The Brooklyn Barge

You have to take this place for what it is. It is nothing more and nothing less. Do not have unrealistic expectations of a floating barge bar and you will have a great time.
We only had a few drinks and enjoyed the breeze and the view this past Sunday. I will be back for sure at some point to try the food.

This was the most fun I’ve had in a while relaxing with a few drinks on the water. The food was great the view was awesome. almost like a mini vacation. Staff was friendly and service was great … gotta go there!

The view is good, but you can experience the same views in the park directly adjacent as well as the pier which is actually better. The food is bad, under no circumstances should you eat here. I got the $ 14 «sliders» which were two really bad whitecastle like burgers. It’s a shame because I really wanted to like this place.

I really wanted to like this place but there are little to no redeeming qualities.
The bad:
— The food was horrendous. I ordered 2 fish tacos and only ate half of one because I thought they were going to make me sick. The fish was cold (ie cooked way before I ordered it and not reheated). The tortillas were also not fresh (hard — cooked awhile ago and not even reheated).
— The corn salad was meh and not worth the $ 4 – 5 based on taste and amount given.
— $ 12 for a plastic cup of rose. No thanks.
— cash only even though they said online that they took CC. Had to walk to ATM.
— when I went to order food initially the guy said they were not taking food orders bc the kitchen was too backed up. !!! I wish we would have just left instead of waiting around for the crappy food.
— watered down cocktails $ 12
Good:
— fries were fresh and hot with old bay seasoning
— lots of seating on the barge and pier although not all tables had umbrellas to keep us shaded.
— good view
I will definitely not be back.

Not open. Made the trek out there and after getting lost trying to find it, turns out they were closed. Booo! Even though they’re website says they’re open 7 days a week.

Cash only. The only ATM charges a $ 3.50 fee. The actual barge is small. Most patrons sit on a concrete deck. They advertise what look like some good food. Alas, kitchen was closed on a Friday at 7pm! Barge had too many people to fit us. Very disappointing. Might come back when the kitchen is already open to see if the food can bump up the rating. The view of Manhattan is great. That is the only reason it gets more than 1 star.

Since moving to Greenpoint in January, we’ve been anticipating the opening of Brooklyn Barge, and finally it’s open!
Around 2 PM on a blazing hot 90 degree Saturday we ventured up. There was no seating available on the barge itself, at least not under an umbrella so we settled for the «deck»!
We ordered a pitcher of the Montauk IPA for $ 24! The beer was good and water is available.
The view is pretty great but no different than Transmitter Park (considering not they are basically the same place haha).
There is food available via a converted shipping crate/​kitchen combo and at least today, you were given a ticket for a hot dog if you spent over $ 10.
There is also a restroom which is a glorified un-​air conditioned port-​a-​john but it is surprisingly nice!
Overall, on a day where you aren’t willing to dip yourself into the East River to cool off, Brooklyn Barge is a great spot for drinks!!!

!!! THE VIEW. the view. Whoopi. «David Wall» if you know what I mean. Inadequate netting. American flag too small. Brooklyn barge brew = bud light. STILL WORTH IT. BASICALLY GET HERE.

What more can I say about this place, the view, the view, the view. Unless your goober rich and live in a high-​rise overlooking the city from the Brooklyn shore you’ll never be able to sit and have a nice drink and watch this view. The people who put this bar together are genius. Amazing wine list with heavy pours, fantastic beers on draft, and the service is friendly. Food is great but I only had the hotdog.

This place is a treasure. It reminds me of my time sailing. The soft rock of the barge while you enjoy a cold against the best view of the city. This is a destination bar.

Cool spot, nice view, and a floating bar. Only open during the spring and summer. Beers are good, even better when the sun is shining. I’ve never tried the food here, but it’s your typical finger foods, salads, and grilled meats. As others have stated, the music is terrible. Awful radio playlist aside, Barge is doing something right by working with environmental groups to help clean up the East River, and is looking offer fishing, kayaking and sailing lessons at some point in the future.

Great spot! What a view. We were there for sunset and I couldn’t believe the happy hour prices. What a bargain! I was also impressed with the hamburger. Can’t wait to come back!

Odd a few reviews had some focus on the music here as you could barely hear it BUT… I digress. It’s a nice sunny spot to grab a beer, have a bite (nothing overly sophisticated, but good — shrimp skewers and corn on the cob) and celebrate the day. Service was expeditious… Can’t comment on anything but the draft beer (honey beer) which was lovely. Reminds me a bit of Anabel Basin sailing bar and grill in LIC which is a compliment.

This place makes the best Moscow mules. Has unsurpassed views of the City. Service is great. Chill vibe. Good place to bring a date or to chill with friends.

someone else made a comment about the music, as its absolutely awful. bad enough, that I walked in, and walked out in 30 seconds. yes, that awful.
we sucked up and wanted to give it a shot.
the food menu is totally generic and so is the beer and booze selection. the «bartender» doesnt look like he could make one single cocktail. I got my gross warm draft beer, and my wife said her wine was fine.
yeah, the view is fine, but the seating and design of the place couldnt be worse as its super congested, super uncomfortable.
i think the actual positive reviews are more lie ads and friends of the owner, who look like total Long Island non city people. This is literally the worst place in Greenpoint. I would never go back. ever.
Did i mention the 1995 Z100 music that was blasting. enough said.

PROs:
the view is amazing of course.
we got a bottle of nice dry champagne for $ 26 which is quite a deal. was expecting it to be bad champagne but it was great!
ordered a burger, which was suprisingly pretty good too.
CONs:
the music is super douchey. «one love» by bob marley, followed by horrible jersey shore club music, followed by generic classic rock. if you’re not gonna give two cents about the music just pick a decent streaming channel and be done with it.

the shrimp caesar was super generic. ditto the chicken skewers.
the bartender is definitely not a bartender in real life. acts like he’s never been to a bar before.
there’s 2 – 4 staff behind the bar at all times yet apparently only one guy is allowed to serve drinks. so you end up waiting for this guy who’s never tended bar before to figure out how to make drinks for the people in line before you.

My favorite place thus far on my tour of NY. Serves pretty good and really inexpensive drinks (we got 6 drinks for 54 dollars). On a sunny day, it was such a relaxing place, as long as you don’t get seasick.

So excited the Barge Bar is open! Really great concept, and the view/​location could not be better. Staff was super friendly, good beer selection, nice relaxed atmosphere. By far the best outdoor bar space in the neighborhood. So glad we get to enjoy it this fall, and it will definitely be THE spot next summer — can’t wait!

They said they would be open, they are not… Very not cool of them! They’re located near a small park on the water which is cool. The place is looks like a bunch of outdoor picnic tables to have a drink at. Upset I didn’t get to try though it was advertised all over that they’d be open today.
