Shakoor made the most amazing strawberry shortcake for my daughters first birthday party! We are so lucky to have Shakoor in our neighborhood. His cakes, cheese cakes, and food make all our parties easy and wonderful. This is seriously the best cake I have ever tasted. I highly recommend!

I love love love the sweet tooth, everything is made from scratch right down to their signature salad dressing, the turkey lasagna is delicious! The mini cheesecakes are by far the best I’ve had anywhere. The owner and his partner are so friendly, took the time to explain everything on the menu by ingredient, I can’t say enough good things. If you’re anywhere in Brooklyn it’s worth the time to stop here and try the sweet potato pound cake, ice cream, cheesecake it’s out of this world! And notice the A on the window, it’s so clean you could eat off the floor! Thank you Judah, I’ll be back…

Mostly sweets — great cakes slices and flavored cheesecakes. Also has homemade take out — tried the grilled chicken, coleslaw, and mac and cheese. All super tasty! Simple, carefully made, flavorful food.

I’m writing this review as I walk back to my car. I love sweets especially homemade baked goods. I went here to satisfy my cravings only to be disappointed. The door wide open music blasting im standing in the front looking at a display of mouth watering treats only to be standing for 5 minutes. I say hello over the loud music no one replies I walk back to my car parked across the street and called the number on the awing. So grumpy half sleep man answers ««Sweet tooth» I told him nicely I’m seeking treat but he chooses to argue why he wasn’t available at the front smfh black business these days smfh

My mother who has been excited about visiting this store since 2005 was in town visiting yesterday (Saturday). We arrived at ~6:30pm and the shop was closed sans explanation on the store front, website or voicemail. I just attempted to send them a message on their website regarding this and the form bounced back with a «no recipient» error, i. e they disconnected the business e-​mail from the contact form they have online.
I would recommend trying to get a human on the phone before attempting to visit. I am going to call again today and try to figure out what’s going on one last time. I will update this review if it was an unforeseen emergency or something, but for now just wanted to pass word about this so someone doesn’t land in a similar situation. Pretty sure this store is closed.

Needed some last minute cake for a holiday dinner, found Shakoor’s on Unilocal.Firstly the red velvet cake is amazing! Secondly the service is awesome, he was like half closed when I came by and still got a cake out of the freezer for me and threw in a piece of cheese cake on the house. Even got into a whole conversation about how bad he feels leaving a 2 day old product on the shelves and how if there is one he’ll just take it off and eat it himself as opposed to selling it– clearly take alot of pride in his work. Awesome owner and amazing product what more could you want.

Ive been eating these cakes before he setup shop on Marcus Garvey when he was selling cakes door to door of stores and barber shops ants barber shop in particular on Halsey St. I have tried many cakes and cupcakes in his shop and they’re great. Never have i been disapointed. You cant go wrong at this place.

Sad, he is not open to the public only special orders so you have order a whole cake, which is not a bad thing.

Only open on Friday’s and Saturdays from what I understand. If you drive past the store front, you will find that it is shuttered and would think it is shut down, but look carefully and you will see the front door is open. Go on in and order a pie! None of that by the slice garbage. What is this, some crappy deli? You buy a whole pie or you get the hell out. Biked it over to a BBQ and within 20 min it was gone. I even saw someone chewing on the metal pie pan like a savage, hoping to get one last bit of sweet potato’y essence. Don’t bother with the website, it doesn’t work. Either walk in on a Friday or Saturday afternoon or call and leave an order on his voice mail. Purchased a sweet potato cheesecake for $ 25. Would have easily traded the soul of my first unborn child.

Its interesting how I stumbled upon one of the best, low key bakery in Brooklyn. It all started when I needed to bring a dessert to a BBQ since I was too lazy to make an ordinary potatoe salad. I never baked a cheesecake, nor i didn’t want to buy a store-​brought cake, therefore I «yelped» cheesecake and The Sweet Tooth from Shakoor had the greatest rating. I took a risk and called him. He was very professional, gave me options and quoted a reasonable price for a last– minute order. I chose a red velvet cheesecake. I was running late for the appointment, as I got lost and couldn’t communicate with Shakoor as swiftly as I wanted. Thankfully, I remembered his phone number (im good with numbers. horrible with words as you can see by reading this review. and I have a college education… sad…), used the nearest (and cleanest) pay phone and contacted him. He was so patience and agreed to meet me. Finally, I arrived to the location. The presentation of the cheesecake was so impressive, I seriously didn’t want to bring the cheesecake to the BBQ. Shakoor is a sweetheart, quite handsome for his age (not as cute as my hubby Freddie). Eventually I paid for the cheesecake, took it to the BBQ as intended, and enjoyed it. It was a major it at the BBQ. I’m looking forward to purchasing my cheesecakes and other pastries from The Sweet Tooth.

Very good food from an excellent chef. Any meal will be great.

This twas an interesting experience.
Based on the glowing reviews provided by Unilocalers, a friend and I had a lunch date at Shakoor’s. Except for they’re not open during the week, only Friday and Saturday. So we went back on a Saturday.
For $ 12 each we had the grilled salmon with two sides.
And for $ 5 I had a slice of the sweet potato cheesecake.
And we ate in.
The food was good. It was salmon steak which was good, just a little odd to eat salmon with bones in it. The mac and cheese was definitely good and the cabbage that I had was good but the ol’ NYC we make savory food sweet cheat was definitely in play. They put cinnamon in the cabbage, while I think that’s a cop out my tastebuds still enjoy it.
Yes the cheesecake is amazing. I don’t know why bakeries in the hood are so expensive but it was a delicious enough I’ll dismiss the price as part of your overhead.
Now I’m not clear on who Shakoor or Christopher Smith is but I think it was Mr. Shakoor that sat at the front and chatted us up while we ate. The chatting part I don’t mind, because I enjoy talking to different people and I’m a talker. But it kind of a took a vere left when Mr. Shakoor implied that I wasn’t a lady because I have an adoration for four letter words. But wait, I’m such a f*cking lady. I didn’t care so much but my homie was a bit put off by insistence on attempting to give me a life lesson.

WOW, I’m so glad I found this place on Unilocal!It used to be located down the street from my house on Halsey St, so I would stop by for a piece of sweet potato cheesecake on my way home from the grocery store, but the Halsey St. location has been closed for a while now, and I’ve been distraught!
The sweet potato cheesecake is delicious, and the people that work there are always really nice. What more could you ask for?

The only reason this doesn’t get a 5 is because there isn’t enough seating.
I dont like american-​style mac and cheese, but Shakur has made me reevaluate that statement. His is some o the best mac and cheese anywhere. It is american style butis proof that american mac and cheese doesnt have to be uninspired. i would have thought this impossible before I tried his.
Also sweet potato desserts? This is a difficult concept if you are not southern or Black or perhaps both Black and southern. Well I can only say the rest of the world is missing out. Sweet potato desserts rule.
The cheese cake is very good but the sweet potato pound cake is my favorite. It’s moist with a perfect crumble, a delicious flavor difficult to place if you haven’t had sweet potato desserts before and has, a lovely mace or nutmeg top note. Oh and the icing on his cakes is amazing just the right consistency, never too much or too little. Oh

There is only one place in the world that serves the BEST sweet potato cheesecake — and that place is The Sweet Tooth. And the reason why this place i heaven — because it run with the soul and love of Shakoor Watson.
If you’re looking for a good story — Shakoor can give it to you. Numerous press have done articles on his personal background — recovering heroine addict and criminal turned savvy entrepeneur who’s worked with Oprah to Monique to Jay-​Z. He’s survived the toughest NYC prisons, jumped a guy for $ 1 and ended up in prison for 7 years, mugged people for drug money… blah blah — that really doesn’t impress me :0)

More importantly, if you’re looking for food that will make your knees weak and wish that the entire world was lickable — then you Shakoor can give it to you so good that you will NEVER look at sweet potato or cheesecake the same way again… EVER.
What to do when you enter into the establishment:
1.) before you enter, know that you will come out a different person, can you accept that? You will become a sweet potato dessert snob — for the rest of your life Shakoor will be your new metric of excellence.
2.) upon walking into the place, you will see a rows and rows of desserts — you will be overwhelmed — and you will start hyper-​ventalating due to the overwhelming selection
3.) breathe — pray –meditate — do whatever you need to do to relax — because your mind and body will fly when you begin eating
4.) order the sweet potato cheesecake
5.) order the carrot cake
6.) order the chocolate layer cake
7.) order the banana pudding
8.) order whatever specials he has that day — whether it be vegetable lasagna, salmon cakes, some sandwich — I PROMISE you that this is the experience of a lifetime.
9.) order the ice tea — this is for reals — shakoor knows how to brew it
10.) and all ingredients are natural!
Some tips:
1.) do not call this soul food — this isn’t soul food or some bbq joint
2.) this isn’t only a dessert place — treat this as if it were your last meal — you must mentally prepare yourself to eat — and eat you will
3.) give Shakoor a hug — the man deserves it after taking care of your timmy
4.) there is only one table — so you have to stand and eat —
5.) there is no bathroom
6.) there are no nearby bathrooms — there are no starbucks nearby — this is bed-​stuy
7.) the closet Mcdonalds is 6 blocks away — so really there are no bathrooms nearby so use that one if you are coming from Fulton
8.) DIABETICS ARE WELCOME!!! There is a sugar-​free Sweet Potato cheesecake for those with diabetes
9.) Shakoor constructed the whole interior himself —
10.) tell you and 10 other friends.
11.) it’s in bed-​stuy — so it’s a trek for many people. Closest train is Nostrand A/​C and it’s an 8 block walk
12.) Shakoor has an awesome wife who was critical in making their past location on Halsey a loving place for customers. Marisa is lovely. She no longer is at the store but those who remember her at the Halsey store will know who she is.
13.) order 5 more slices of sweet potato pie to bring back for all your friends and family
