a taco stand grows in kensington! i was pretty excited to find out about this because despite the large mexican population in this neighborhood, tacos in this neighborhood are somewhat ho hum, and a prevalence of industrial, watery, guacamole remains the norm. so when i saw these men mashing«real» avocados, not those nasty florida alligator pear wannabes, and i saw the beauty of sope(a very thick handmade corn tortilla with the fixings, and the meat being grilled, i was anxious to try everything but lengua.(tongue) here’s the taco et al. scoop: tacos– i tried the carne de enchilada, the cecina, and the bisteck. the carne de enchilada was not so great, it tasted like somebody had dumped a spice pack on the meat. the cecina and bisteck were pretty good, but a little tough and i like the pieces of meat to be cut a little smaller. they were generous with the taco accompaniments which include guacamole. sopada– !!! como me gusto! it was like a thin arepa, and you could taste that everloving corn. this came with too much lettuce, lovely, fresh queso fresco, and bisteck which as aforementioned was just o.k. torta: i asked them to hold the epasote, it had slices of avocado, onions, jalapeño and bisteck and it was excellente! they have tamales, cemitas and other goodies as well! 3.5 estrellas

I’m a busy and lazy woman. When I got home at 9:30 pm last night, I was fully intending to eat a bag of baby carrots for dinner. Just baby carrots. Why? Because they were there. Instead, my mother suggested I try the leftovers she had saved me from the new taco truck in our hood. So, I grabbed the box out of the fridge, and proceeded to eat a cold bistec taco, and a quarter of a bistec torta. TOOLAZYTONUKE, dats right. But it tasted good nonetheless. I could have done without the pickled jalapeño on the torta, but besides that, no complaints. While it wasn’t special, it wasn’t a bag of baby carrots. Thank god for that!
