Michelle is a fantastic host & server! We found this place because it was close by, and we found a gem! Wow! The stew was AMAZING! I am from Virginia, and we don’t have cooking, service, or attitude like this where I come from! My business partners and I are thrilled to have found this spot! We’re coming tomorrow morning for breakfast!

When you’re at the lake and it’s time for breakfast, you will try any place once. Well, that was a huge mistake. I’m not sure what they are cooking on back there, but it must be hotter than the sun. Every single piece of food on my plate was burned to a crisp. Bacon… charred, hash browns… slightly resembled burnt wood ash, toast… I don’t think a overnight soak in water would soften it. My eggs were slightly edible, but didn’t include the cheese that I ordered. The waitress said, «Is that too burnt for you?». Of course!!! I looked at a few plates on the tables of other diners and some had the same charred food. I waited for about 15 mins for more food, but it really wasn’t good the second time around either. We go to pay the tab and there was no adjustment for my torched breakfast. We just paid and left. Not sure about the BBQ, but I’m not going back to find out.

Ordered take out over the weekend for a large group of friends. Didn’t have to call in or plan ahead, when we arrived we asked to place a few orders of pulled pork and they already had them waiting in containers so we could take them home early then reheat them later in the afternoon once guests arrived! Talk about fast service

Expect REALLYGREAT food here! I ordered the pork plate with BBQ beans & mac and cheese… Old McDonald’s BBQ sauce comes served on the pork, which is alright with me because I like my pork dripping full of wet, sweet BBQ goodness anyways! LOL! Their hot sauce is visibly mixed with peppers of some sort(the seeds can be seen through the bottle). I’m a hot sauce fanatic, so this definitely peaked my interest(and it was totally worth trying). Even their sweet tea is perfect! The restaurant can only seat around 50 – 60 people, so in get there early, just in case everybody around town decides to visit at lunchtime. The parking lot is roadside and isn’t the biggest, so try and make space for others. Oh, and several people ordered Jim Bob’s Tater Tots… I regret not ordering them ’cause one person said they were totally worth the calories! LOL!

Great BBQ! Love the sliced pork sandwiches and fries. The Brunswick stew is delicious, and the cheeseburgers are also a hit with it only being a BBQ restaurant.

Well… BBQ is not hard. Just season the meat a little; and don’t say pit cooked when it’s cooked in a smoker. Anybody can throw some butts in a smoker, turn it on and call it a day. I will say the place was clean, the people were somewhat inviting; but at the end of the day, we are in the south and BBQ runs in our blood. So it better be good!

When something is scarce, ain’t none of it bad. That pretty well sums up The Brown Shoe Gourmet’s recent visit to Old McDonald’s BBQ on the door step of: Lake Lanier and miles away from any other real ‘cue. A :“find” if you really need a barbecue fix. On the positive side, the Brunswick stew was great. Good mix, great flavor, generous serving as a side dish. Insofar as the cole slaw, a little bit went a long way… a lot of it, but bland at best. They offer a chopped chicken sandwich and it was excellent: moist, full flavor… you could literally taste the apple and hickory wood flavor. Olé Mc doesn’t(according to their menu) normally served ribs — and I know why. Ribs were on the«special» the day we visited and the meat on the four bones was literally gray. Gray is not a good color for meat… and they came out of the kitchen smoking(as in heat) hot. Cooked a second time instead of merely warmed before serving. It was like stew falling off the bones. One of the regulars suggested that the Buford institution is best known for their chopped pork… wish we’d met him on the way in instead of the way out. One other very strong positive: The combination cashier/waitress could not have been more better. A young blond woman, she was friendly, welcomed us, checked our drinks at least twice(good sweat tea), and thanked us twice for coming as we left. One more try the next time we’re near the lake.

This place does not look like much from the outside. You definetely question what you are doing. The food is pretty good. I had the chopped pork. It was good. I liked the sauce. I had the corn on the cob and the fried potato sides. They were both good. I am not a huge barbeque person, but I was quite happy with my lunch.

I went into Old McDonald’s with very high expectations. I’d read elsewhere it was the best BBQ in Georgia. It ain’t. Maybe you’ll enjoy it more if you forget that notion. I had the pulled pork and it was fresh and tasty. The sauce was nice, not greasy, with just enough kick. But nothing about either the pork or sauce made it a place to travel 40 miles to eat(which I did). Throw in the canned green beans and, well, it just wasn’t anything more than another typical BBQ joint located in the sticks. Keep looking if you want to find the best BBQ in the state.

I’ve heard from more than one person that management/ownership of this restaurant has changed. I haven’t had a chance to get back out here to try since then. So keep that in mind if you try this place. I don’t want my reputation to be tarnished by giving bad Q suggestions! :-)
