Hold on, hold on. So recently a couple of trolls decided to walk in here and give this place ONE star? Why? Because they waited 10 mins? It’s not a restaurant, it’s a gym. If they only knew what it took to get this gym to open. More on that later…
If Unilocal somehow had a super-​admin account which allowed me to rate this place 6 stars, I would. So here I am, giving one of my fav gyms FIVE stars.
We’ve heard it before: «It’s not about the place, it’s the people». This rings SO true with Funxional Fitness. First of all, the proprietor, Jessica, wears her heart on her sleeve, let alone this gym. A TRUE fitness freak and excellent business woman, she fought hard to get this gym to open. They used to be at the Alameda/​Pass location earlier in 2015 when a few operational issues forced them to move out and quickly scramble to find a spot in the general area in order to maintain their loyal members (me included). Luckily, the old Miami Fitness (which was an absolute rat-​hole) was closing down, so she swooped in and snagged the place, only to find out that there was a whole pandora’s box full of bad code construction issues which kept her from opening the place. I would know this very well, since I would text Jessica at least 2 – 3 times a month with an update. But finally, back in November, she proudly messaged me telling me that they finally opened. FINALLY!
Now, I know a lot of you are bitching about the bathrooms (which are non existent at the moment due to construction), as well as showers, etc. All of which are a work in progress, but knowing how the owner puts careful thinking behind everything she does, you will all eat your words when it’s all done, and Im sure those ONE-​star Unilocalers will be refused a membership, because, again, it’s all about the people.
When I was first introduced to this place, I was more than happy to pay an extra $ 30 – 40 to get rid of the LA riff-​raff (ie. LA Fitness, 24H Fitness, etc). Walking in every time for a workout and a friendly smile and greeting from the front desk made me feel like I was in the midwest somewhere. A total breath of fresh air before I get to work out. Oh, and they provide fresh-​smelling towels too.
I know Im rambling a lot, but I’ve been to a lot of gyms and Funxional definitely found a way to my sweet spot. Impeccable service with a keen attention to detail (they even have someone wiping down all the machines, all day long), top of the line machines, great people, comfortable atmosphere… and it’s only going to get better, especially at this new central location in Burbank which is way more visible than their last spot. Congrats on this awesome new location. Definitely something I look forward to every time I go workout!

Amazing Gym! Jessica and her team are outstanding! Recently moved to Burbank Verdugo location. Everything is brand new and very high end. Totally different experience than 24 hr fitness or LAFitness. Very friendly and motivational environment!

Went there to find out about membership and rates. Waited about 10 mins. No one at the improvised front desk. No one bothered to come ask if I needed help and I wasn’t about to start yelling either. So walked out. So much for Grand Opening! The place is very small and with very limited amount of machines. If u’re looking to work out with free weights, skip this place it seems like they have very little. I don’t know if the place is still under construction but it’s half the size of what it was when it was Miami Fitness a few months ago. I learned from other reviews that there are no restroom or showers you have to use the porta potties outside on the parking lot which requires that you walk around the entire building if u want to get there for extra cardio???
I’m 2 blocks away walking distance and was really excited about this place opening up. They need to make people feel welcomed or at least try to sell memberships… Unattended front table says «We don’t really need your business». Good for them!

BEST GYM EVER!!!
Over the years I have joined a lot of different gyms — 24hr, LA Fitness, Crunch, and Equinox and none of them compare to FunXional. The equipment here is all brand new and top notch, not your standard treadmill and elliptical. The gym is extremely clean and parking is never a problem. What I love most about this place though is the environment. Honestly, I always felt a bit judged at other gyms and I love the fact that I never feel that way here. From the first time walking in, I felt like I was joining a fitness family rather than a gym. Jessica the owner is super sweet, welcoming and motivational. She has a gift of making you want to show up and work up a sweat everyday!
If you are looking for a quiet, clean and amazing place to better your body and mind, you have found it! This is more than a gym, you will not be just another faceless member here. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE.

Update: This gym finally reopened in November 2015 (10 months after they moved and estimated they would be closed for 4 – 6 weeks). At this point, only the first phase of construction has been completed so that means no bathrooms or showers on site, and gross porta potties in the parking lot!
My sincere warning for anyone who may consider joining this gym. It took the owner 10 months to complete «phase 1». If you value restrooms and think «boutique gyms» should offer more than porta potties in the parking lot, hold off joining and signing a contract until all the work is complete. It took them 10 months to finish nominal work in phase one (probably because they didn’t take out a construction permit for these improvements until 9÷17÷15.
). The second phase of construction includes more work and money, and it’s pretty clear this gym operates on its own timeline with little regard to representations they make to their members and prospective members. At the very least, new members should insist on an amazing discount until the gym is actually completed, and fully «funxional».
Those considering joining might also be interested in reading some history this gym had at their former location.

Funxional Fitness is such a cool gym. The equipment is new and the cardio line is friggin AWESOME. It’s a comfortable environment and so not intimidating. I can get around and workout and if I need help, Jessica is there. It’s in Burbank with a lot of parking. I love this gym.

Functional Fitness is by far the best gym I have ever belonged to all over the world. It is spotless, organized, state-​of-​the-​art machines, warm and friendly staff.
This is the gym you want to belong to. If you are looking for quiet, never-​to-​busy place to have a great sweat and enjoy your workout, this is the place.
Jessica is an amazing owner and runs this place so smoothly, so effectively; its a privilege to be a member here!

I cannot say enough about this gym. I am a «former» athlete who has had over 15 knee surgeries. I recently got the go ahead to work out. I knew I needed to really really research this. I had to find a quality gym with quality physical trainers. I have been searching, visiting gyms for a few weeks when I went in to FF. I worked out with Kari and trust me, words cannot do justice to how amazing Kari AND the gym is. Phenomenal, clean, state of the art machines, atmosphere is wonderful. If you are looking for the best gym (you do not have to have personal training of course), personal trainers (if you want) GO to this gym. Ample parking, easy to get to. Prices are very reasonable as well. I thought I was going to have to pay through the nose because the gym is so nice, and equipment state of the art, but prices are comparable with all the gyms in the area that do NOT offer the great equipment etc… I am so glad I did my homework. hope this helps anyone looking for an amazing gym!

Great showers!
Yeah this is a really cool place, just a clean, well-​run gym. The showers are probably the best part — more luxurious than anything I’ve seen at Equinox and other high-​end gyms.
Just a fun little gym with a good price and a great view of Burbank.

Great facility with brand new, state of the art, smooth equipment. They have fun fitness classes, like paddleboarding, too.

This review is for Ballistic Body Fitness trainer Scott Yonehiro. Scott is extremely experienced and knowledgeable, fun, goal-​oriented, flexible with scheduling, and an all around great business man. I always enjoy my training sessions with him, and have definitely seen results! Thank you!

This place is hot! My husband and I have been members for over a year now. The amazing staff are always very friendly & genuinely committed to your health and happiness. It’s like the Cheers of Gym’s (Where everybody knows your name). They offer classes almost every night of the week, from yoga, foam rolling, tai chi, extreme fat burning, and more! I am super excited about the new Paddle Board class coming soon! I also enjoy the extra touches they built into this fitness center, it’s got a spa like atmosphere, especially in the facilities with luxury steam room showers. Before I get into details of the gym, I want to give you a little background information so you can understand where I am coming from to help give you better perspective on Funxional Fitness.
I am 22 years old and have been playing sports and exercising my entire life. I have played football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track and field, you name it. When I was 13 I started seeing a personal trainer for weight lifting, in a top of the line private gym. Throughout high school we were required to train in our schools gym. I was a member of a public local gym for several years. While away at school attending The University of Arizona, I was able to use our student rec center which was ranked the Number 1 student rec center in the country. The point I am trying to make is I have been to a lot of gyms and done my fair share of exercising.
Now after graduating and moving back home I began my 9 to 5 life and I was very skeptical of maintaining my fitness, and worried i would lose all of my progress. But by the grace of a higher power above, right next door to my office was a brand new gym that was just opened by the name of Funxional Fitness, and I was saved.
From the first time i stepped in that gym I was welcomed with open arms. Every employee in that gym has become a close friend of mine. They do an incredible job at making you feel like part of the family, and do everything they can to make sure you have everything you need.
The equipment is as good as it gets. Like I said, I have been to private gyms, I have been to Equinox, I have been to University Rec Centers, and you will not find better equipment anywhere else.
And the best part of the gym, is arguably the bathrooms. Nicer than my own bathrooms at home (don’t judge me). Steam showers, lockers, towels, body wash, shampoo, q-​tips, you name it, they supply it.
I can not say enough about how much I enjoy going to this gym on a daily basis. I leave my office a couple times a day just to go down and say Hello to the employees and they have given me all the love in return.
Do yourself a favor and sign up for this gym. I promise you won’t regret it!

This place just keeps getting better!
The holidays in full swing brings another visit from my wife’s parents. And now for the 3^rd year I’ve arranged a temporary membership for my father-​in-​law during his stay with us. I called up to check in advance and the staff immediately recognized me and said they’d be happy to work something out again. (See my previous review for details on how I was first introduced to Funxional Fitness.)
I took my father-​in-​law over the day after he arrived. We were greeted by a wonderfully transformed space. Jessica, the owner, took us on a tour of the expanded layout. It was a striking difference from our previous visit, taking much better advantage of their existing square-​footage. Everything is a class act, from the all new, top-​notch equipment, to the clean lines of the high-​tech locker rooms.
This place is a real family affair. As I understand it, everything was designed by Jessica and then built by her father, a contractor. Her brother was the gentleman who answered the phone and greeted us when we arrived. It’s really refreshing to see such a quality local family owned business.
But what’s important is my father-​in-​law really loves going there. It’s just become part of his routine when he’s visiting. And it couldn’t be better that it’s walking distance from our house. Jessica’s introduced him to new equipment and really took the time to answer any questions he had. I feel really safe knowing they’re looking out for him.
Though it may be a convenient place for a local senior to keep up their fitness, it’s no slouch of a gym. I personally still have my big chain membership with pool access and late hours, but my interest in Funxional has certainly been piqued. Originally the space shared focus with both general fitness and physical therapy. Now it’s focused primarily on fitness, though one could certainly maintain a rehab program there. The more efficient use of space, the state of the art Free Motion equipment and newly expanded hours, which now include Sundays, make it much more attractive fitness option. I still work out with a trainer in a small hole-​in-​the-​wall fitness center, and am trying to connect her with Jessica so she can work with clients at Funxional.
Funxional is really worth a look if you’re interested in a modern, no nonsense, positive environment to get your fitness on!

Upside: Friendly staff, great equipment, great location and parking availability.
Downside: Price, small
They have a limited space but the equipment is top notch. I think they may run into issues if they get more trainers to come here. The staff is very attentive and one nice fella ALWAYS remembered my name! I am not becoming a member because of the expensive price but if you have the money it would be a good place to work out.

After hearing about this gym from my friends I had to check it out. Before entering the gym, I noticed the huge parking structure and was already happy to see that I don’t have to leave my house earlier to find parking. Did I mention they validate up to two hours? As I walk into the gym I got a really warm welcome by the staff. Not like the greeting you get at some of these other chain gyms where you’re just a number. Half way through my tour I wanted to start using all their amazing equipment. After seeing the lockers, bathrooms and the amazing showers/​steam room I was sold! Before my visit to funxional fitness I had a membership to a gym that charged me twice the amount of what funxional fitness is asking and offered half of what funxional fitness has to offer. After I used my free pass to their amazing facility, and used the beautiful shower/​steam room I immediately joined this wonderful establishment. The same day I joined funxional fitness I left my over rated, over crowded, overly expensive other gym. This gym and the amazing trainer that works there put me in the best shape of my life.

I started working at the hospital a mile from this gym. I passed it once or twice on my way to work and I would make a mental note to check it out after my shift ends. So one day I did. I talked to the guy at the front for a few minutes to see if he was going to try and force a membership down my throat right off the bat but he didn’t. He was very kind and really wanted me to tour the gym and have it speak for it self. He showed me equipment that I have never seen before. Equipments that will make me look like the trainers they have. Also on the tour I noticed the beautiful flat screens everywhere. This is huge for me! As much as I love to work out, I love to watch sports while I work out. They have classes like yoga, bootcamp, etc. Just when I thought this oasis of a gym could not get any better, I saw the steam shower. I Love steam showers. Nothing feels better and helps me recover after a great workout like a good steam. After discussing their exceptional packages they offer and the service that comes with it. It was a done deal. I can honestly say that for as long as this gym is around, I will never join another gym anywhere.

I joined this gym almost three weeks ago, and I love it! The gym was recently remodeled, so all the equipment is brand new. They have amazing treadmills that have an incline max of 30. Here are some of the major pros of this gym:
1) Never crowded, so there’s never a wait for equipment
2) Very clean
3) Towel Service included with membership, small and large shower towels
4) No need to bring your own lock, because each locker has it’s own electronic one which you set
5) Friendly and courteous staff, I’m always greeted by name :)
6) Two hour parking w/​validation
7) Great music in the background, classic rock, not repetitive techo
8) Big screen TVs visible from any spot on the gym floor, and your own tv on all cardio machines.
9) Awesome looking showers (I haven’t tried them yet)
If you’re looking to join a new gym, I would highly recommend you try out FunXional Fitness.
