Megabus

The bus broke down 10 minutes after we left – apparently leaking, which you would think they would have caught if they did the inspection they claim to. We sat and waited nearly two hours for a new bus before going on our way – after an email which promised no more than a 60 minute wait time. No response to multiple emails sent other than a code for $ 6 off my next trip. Lol don’t worry Megabus, you can keep your code. Will never ride with them again.

I’m a college student. My friends go to school in San Francisco and I love going up to visit them so I book ahead of time and usually manage a roundtrip of $ 10-​$ 25 and I don’t know who can beat those prices. The bus is decently comfortable although some tips I would have would be to bring something to entertain yourself with. I usually load up some movies on my laptop, bring a neck pillow, and dress warmly! Everyone always complains about it being cold but I actually like it that way! Sometimes (but not always), you’ll get some people who are under the weather and the cold climate doesn’t promote a nice place for the bacteria to live in so that’s why I don’t complain. Bring snacks! It’s a long ride and there’s only one stop. From Burbank to SF, they usually stop in Buttonwillow which has a Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Starbucks close by as well as a gas station. From SF to Burbank, I’m not sure what city we stop in, but it’s towards the end of the trip so only a couple of hours left. There’s an In N Out and a Mickey D’s on that stop. Overall, I’ve never had any complaints about my ride that would make me not consider taking it again. People are usually very quiet and only once was there a time that a group of friends were being a little rowdy but nothing that my headphones couldn’t fix.

… horrible service and experience from Las Vegas to LA. details: travel date: 12÷18÷15 departure time from lv-​la 1530 driver Latino on his late 40s or 50’s and … Here’s our bad experience:
1.we arrived in LA and realized that our luggage wast lost. The unlike other megabus drivers, this latino driver didn’t see to it that all our luggages were loaded before he left has Vegas. Loaders were black guys who apparently were more busy chatting than seriously loading the passenger’s stuff
2. While in route from lv to Barstow a thug was smoking at the back and before we left Barstow, the same guy smoked weed for everybody to inhale. The driver didn’t call the Barstow police but just liniently told everybody to tell him if the thug smokes again.
3. Before this driver start driving. He emphasized that any issues regarding wifii and air conditioning is not his concern. He did not say anything about the non smoking policy, and as I’ve said: before he left las Vegas he didn’t make sure that there was any luggage left outside of the bus.
We will still ride this bus because other drivers are good and responsible though.
Moral lesson. Be sure that you see your luggages being loaded into the bus.

Megabus is MegaCold! It’s summer I’m sitting on the Megabus now and I’m totally freezing MAO I heard it could be a little cold and all, but this is ridiculous! I decided I would take my cute, pink, Lands’ End windbreaker (it has a lining) and tossed a little shrug into my carry-​on thinking that would be enough. San Francisco can be breezy at times, right. I didn’t think I would actually NEED it. I’ve got the hood up. I seriously want my down jacket and some gloves, socks, and boots. I’m an Amtrak girl most of the time, going from Santa Barbara to LA area. Everything is all too small and people are too close to me to be truly comfortable. The table seats aren’t exactly comfy of everyone wants their laptops out. I want my own tray table like I get on Amtrak. I, I, I, me me me! It’s all about me!!!
So let’s be clear! My seatmate had her hoodieup. The little boy across from me was so cold his little teeth were chattering. And his aunt gave up her shirt to keep him covered. I saw a girl from San Francisco in a down jacket. It has me wondering if people are less inclined to b violent when it’s really cold. Actually, I caught the bus at Union Station. But we went through Burbank. The stop there is the Metrolink station. I can comfort myself that this suffering only cost me $ 10 because I got a good deal.

Horrible customer service. Horrible attitudes. «Our terms of service clearly state…» Is the only response they have when faced with a customer service issue. They are right, it is in their terms of service, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. All in all horrible service and I do not recommend. The BART made me miss my bus today due to servicing the tracks and took over an hour to get 3 stops down the tracks. Megabus continued to say «our terms if service state a missed bus etc etc. Zero understanding and not worth the $ 43 one way trip. BUYER BEWARE

My boyfriend and I took the bus from Downtown Burbank to Oakland and the bus was on top for both pick up and drop off which was lovely! However, the bus is VERY cold. I followed other reviews and made sure to bring a sweater, but my boyfriend forgot his and was freezing the entire trip. We had to switch seats so that he could sit somewhere where the AC wasn’t hitting him directly.
Also, if you plan to sleep on the bus, best not to sit on the upper level. Our bus ride was from 8:30 PM — 3 AM, but we probably could only sleep for 2 hours tops because you feel EVERYTHING on the upper level. The first two hours, we were holding onto the armrest for dear life because we weren’t expected it to feel so bad, but after a while, you do get used to the constant swaying, ups and downs, etc. But it’s still almost impossible to sleep when the bus hits a ditch and suddenly feel yourself drop.
Overall, would use Megabus again but would probably sit on the lower level.

Wish I could give zero stars. I arrived at my bus stop at exactly 1:19 for a 1:20 departure. Obviously this is not ideal, but knowing I would be cutting it close I had called ahead to warn them. When I arrived, the bus driver closed the door and WOULD NOT LET ME ON even though she hadn’t even started the engine yet when I walked up! I had a reservation and was there and ready when the clock struck 1:20. She drove away as I was begging through her closed window, which she would not open to speak to me. Incredibly rude, and I feel as if $ 40 was just stolen from me. And to make it worse, I can’t even get on the next bus home because Megabus doesn’t make same day reservations. I’ve taken megabus before and never been treated THIS POORLY. I’ll never take the risk again.

Took another trip LA — Vegas round trip. Both Red-​Eye. The temp was much more reasonable on the bus. It is not freeezing cold any longer. Good Job Megabus for heeding customers’ feedback. The next thing is make sure the bus driver pick a place that has a good and clean bathroom near Barstow.

Great service, they just need more routes

Generally I enjoy the cheap bus ride, but I recently had a problem with my luggage — driver dropped me off, unloaded the bags, then sped off before I could confirm my bag had been unloaded (which it wasn’t.)
Trying to get my bag back bas has been a TOTAL NIGHTMARE. Their customer service «system» involves:
1.) Sending an email to
, then waiting for a response.
2.) Receiving an email from customer service stating to call a lost and found department, which is just an answering machine stating to leave a description of your bag and wait for a return call.
3.) If you’re lucky enough to receive a call back, which I eventually did, you’ll get an uninvolved rep who will do seemingly nothing to find the bag and eventually ask you to call back in a month to file a claim.
4.) I’ve been calling back to file that claim and received NO RESPONSE.
This is clearly a system designed to exhaust the customer into just disappearing. I haven’t decided yet what to do; small claims court might be an option.
I wouldn’t care if I hadn’t lost about $ 500 worth of stuff. But even if I had lost less, the customer service is simply the worst I’ve ever experienced.

it got worse. I will NEVER ride megabus again. There is always at least a couple of people who are smoking weed in the bathroom that subsequently fills up the bus. Number 2: seats are so small. I did an overnight trip and the person next to me was laying his head down on my seat, legs where mine were supposed to be; sprawled out. (that’s how uncomfortable and small the chairs are; everyone is on top of each other). I didn’t get a wink of sleep and was unable to enjoy the birthday that I was traveling for the next day. I contacted customer service and they basically didn’t give a sh*t. Oh yea, and someone stole my galaxy note 4 phone when I was letting other people get off at a previous stop. This really pissed me off because they told me «too bad.» Man, if that happened on the Bolt Bus, the driver would have had some words with people to get it back. It just seems like they operate in the real world, not like megabus which doesn’t even tell people to not smoke in the bus or talk on the intercom in general. They just play a stupid movie at the beginning that doesn’t tell anyone about rules on the ride. I like how bolt but is up front about everything: no smoking, listen to music with headphones, don’t stream movies or music so everyone can use the internet; etc etc.
Oh yea, megabus’ internet doesn’t work at all. It just constantly disconnects/​kicks you off. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
I prefer boltbus as you can really tell that they appreciate your business for customer loyalty unlike megabus who once has your money doesn’t really care about the experience.

On my way to SF from LA on the megabus right now. I don’t know what happened but this bus ride is the total opposite from when I took it a couple days ago. When we were checked in, it was disorganized. The bus driver said he had no control over the temperature inside the bus which doesn’t make sense to me. It was freezing and the ride was so bumpy it felt like I was sitting in an airplane going through so much turbulence. The bus driver said we were going to take a pit stop in San Jose but he decided to take it earlier instead. I wish there was some kind of consistency but I guess it’s different everywhere? Overall the bus was clean, and I’m glad there was a security camera too. I would only recommend taking the megabus if it’s last minute.

I’ve taken this bus many times to and from Los Angeles to San Jose. Cheap trip especially if you buy your ticket weeks in advance. Always a nice ride, drivers are nice as well. Makes one ²⁰⁄₃₀ minute stop along the way. Sometimes a little too cold but I always come prepared with a blanket.

I have taken this service before. I understand its not easy to lug people Around but clean the bus and make sure the ac is working for a 6hours drive i expect this company to live up to it’s inspection Procedures. I might have to take bolt if this continues

The last couple times I’ve taken the megabus, it’s been pretty disappointing.
1. The bus was never on time. My trips were delayed 45mins to an hour… I mean if I’m going to show up 30 mins early to try to get an ok seat and then have to wait another hour, it’s just annoying…
2. The wifi sucked. Given that there’s like everyone trying to use it, it should be a little more user friendly… I mean that’s the only reason why I chose megabus over other bus shuttles. yet I can’t access wifi? I think that’s super annoying!!!
Other than those two everything else was alright… The bus does get SUPER cold no matter what, so do bring a sweater/​jacket! There’s a 30 min stop mid ride, so you can get a snack/​food or whatever. I mean it’s a pretty cheap alternative than driving yourself, or flying. But it’s not something that I would take frequently… Only in desperate money saving situations.

Cost of ride from what I’ve seen is $ 1 to $ 50.
I plan my trips ahead of time to get $ 1 deals if possible but even then I don’t spend more than $ 40 per way.
New dates are released earliest 45 days before.
Outlets either on the side of your leg or above your head. Air conditioning is really strong for me so I always bring a heavy jacket. Trashbags along the aisle for the long run and to minimize walking.
Arrival times are usually on time/​a lil late but better be there at least 30 minutes early for pickup. Arrival times for dropoff locations are on time or early unless the bus hits traffic along the way, aka accident.

It’s been years since I last used the bus for long distance travel. It’s very low on my list of transport options. It was also my first time using Megabus.
What made me try it this time?
–My travel plans were in flux and did finally crystalized only two days before. By that time, every other options for San Francisco to LA were fairly expensive. One way car rental was over $ 100 (plus gaz), plane was at least $ 180 and train was $ 90 (and 12 hours). Megabus was $ 35 including taxes and service fees.
–I could do a 6 – 7 hour bus ride as I needed to be in LA monday but not at a specific time.
Now $ 35 is really not expensive, especially if you consider that I had a large suitcase that would have cost me an extra on most airlines. Megabus allows us one such a bag plus a personal item with you on board.
There are two stops in the bay area, one in San Francisco near the Caltrain station (that’s where I would have taken it if I was still working near the baseball stadium) and one in the east bay at the «West Oakland» bus station, that’s where I took it.
They ask you to be there 15 minutes in advance so they can check your reservation and load your luggage. I arrived about 25 minutes in advance and I was looking around to try to find where the bus stop was. The line of people waiting with luggage gave it away quickly though!
The bus, a double-​decker Vanhool Astromega, was half-​full so everyone had a pais of seats; That in itself makes the trip more enjoyable. There is no overhead bins on that bus, so the only place you have for your personal thing is bellow the seat in front of you (unless you have two seats of course). The bus is equipped with a toilet on the lower deck.
Each seat has a power port and that it is a big deal if you want to use your laptop for the 7 hours of the trip (and keep your mobile charged). The Wifi did work but it was on and off. It relies on the cellular data network so when we are in a low service area, the wifi doesn’t work either. My phone was having the same kind of issues (a bit less but that is also expected).
The upper deck is quite high, so you have a good view of the scenery and it’s nice to take picture and post it online! The roof of the bus is all windows so it makes for a nice experience. The only downside of the upper deck is that it tend to move more than the lower deck so if you have transportation sickness, it is better to stick to the lower deck.
I had a few TV show downloaded on my laptop that I did watch en route and wrote a few revers on Unilocal.In no time at all, we were in Burbank and I decided to stop there (I had originally planned to stick to the end to LA’s Union station) but when I realize that it did stop at the Metrolink Burbank station, it made for an easier connection for me.
All in all, for that kind of distance, if the experience is always as nice, I will do it again. With the power and Wifi, it’s in fact less time lost then the plane where you have to arrive early and strip down for security…
So, yeah, I’ll do that again and it’s hard to beat the price!

I wasn’t very sure how a 5 – 6 hour bus ride would be as this was my first time riding a bus this far. Furthermore, I wasn’t told the best things prior to taking the trip. But those people couldn’t be more wrong. It was fast, convenient, cheap, and comfortable. You can’t be $ 35 round trip from Burbank to San Francisco. And they have outlets?! What? My kind of bus. I definitely plan to ride again in the future. You don’t even have to print any tickets, which is tree friendly. Most people were just showing the attendant their email from Megabus.
Now I will say though to bring a sweater and not to expect the WIFI to work. It was spotty on the way up and the way home it didn’t work at all. But for the money, I really could care less. Purchase your tickets in advance to get the lowest cost.

If you’re looking for a last minute cheap ride to San Jose, San Francisco, or Sacramento, this is the bus for you. It costs between $ 1 – 40 each way. The earlier you book your tickets online, the cheaper your ticket will be.
I had an evening departure, but the bus was about 20 minutes late. There weren’t many people waiting at the Burbank stop, but the bus comes from the Los Angeles stop, which is usually fairly busy. Save yourself some time and paper by showing your confirmation number to the bus driver on your phone.
I was lucky enough to get a row of seats to myself so I could sprawl out all my junk. The bus is 2 stories and clean. They say they have wifi on the bus, but it is too slow to even connect to. Each seat has a power outlet for you to plug in all your devices. The bus is COLD. Very cold. The bus driver will warn you if he sees you wearing shorts when you board the bus. There is one 20 minute stop in Buttonwillow for a bathroom break and to pick up some food if you’d like.
My friend and I were going to ride the Vietnamese bus or the low fare bus to norcal, but we decided to go with megabus because it had better departure times that worked with both of our schedules. Though, you do miss out on the banh mi and Paris by Night entertainment that the Viet bus provides.
I would definitely ride megabus again if going on a last minute trip and flights are too expensive.

I created this account just to express my disappointment in the service that Megabus provides.
My boyfriend has previously experienced one of his trips with the provided driver somehow getting lost and not knowing his sense of direction for their destination, causing my boyfriend to almost miss his Bart train.
And currently, my boyfriend decided to take megabus back to Oakland, Ca from Burbank for he didn’t experience any more problems. Until now. His bus was late by 30 minutes. A bus had arrived, almost empty, but was only accepting passengers for San Francisco. Now he has informed me that the AC has broken down and will have to transfer into another bus that they are sending, which will cause a 2 hour delay. His original departure time was 5:25 pm with an arrival in Oakland at 11:30 pm. But instead he was given a departure of 6:00pm with a new arrival estimate of 3 am.
Although Megabus offers low and affordable prices, it does not provide the service they state on their website. Nor do you get what you paid for.
P.S– Their free wifi is either too slow or does not work.
