Fantastic! This place took us in immediately when we woke up to our dog with an infected wound. Dr cleaned the wound and gave us antibiotics and a topical spray. Really really appreciate them helping us out so last minute! All the staff members were kind and helpful. I highly recommend this place! Oh and it was all only $ 100!!! Seriously?!? We were expecting to pay $ 300+. We will be back, for sure!

This is a good vet in Burbank. It prices are pretty good and they genuinely care for the dogs. I rescued my dog from the Burbank shelter and they recommended this vet. Overall I am happy with their service

Been going here since 2000 with my brood of cats and now dog. This office has seen me through many illnesses of my pets and kindly assisted me with releasing one cat out of her pain. Kind, caring and compassionate.
There can be a bit of a wait but getting an appointment is not difficult.

BEST VET EVER! I’ve been coming to Dr. Skaar for at least 6 years and have found her (and her entire staff) to be caring, informative, and conscientious. They are very accommodating with their scheduling, even on very busy days; phone with status updates and follow-​up calls to ensure cat is improving, etc. Dr. Skaar always answers any questions or leaves notes on the chart. I find her to be very honest and very knowledgeable. The clientele are also very friendly, and this really feels like a «community» office. I highly recommend Dr. Skaar

As some reviewers have mentioned, there can be a wait. But I would wait hours here just for Dr. Skaar’s knowledge. I even drive 30 minutes for her and her staff! I would trust her with my life and my dog’s life, every single time. I am so happy I have found her. I will go here forever!!!

Dr Skaar is a blessing since my previous vet Dr Christian Sharp at «Sharp and Sharp animal hospital whom I was with for years until they misdiagnosed my golden retriever with a upper respiratory infection that killed him.
Never thought when I got a new golden I would find another vet. Love this vet, it may not be the most modern with all the fancy bells and whistles, but she knows her stuff, and my dog loves this place along with the residence kitty Bob, who Riley bonded with on his very first visit at 6 mths old. They don’t try to nickel and dime you with un unnecessary procedures or products like others do. She is for the animals before the pocketbook.
If your looking for a honest vet with Integrity this is it.

I love bringing my dog here because I know she will get the right care. Dr. Skaar is gentle, knowledgeable, and thorough. Once in awhile you do have to wait a little bit, but with all the horror stories you hear about some vets, it’s a small price to pay for a vet you can trust. Just brought my long hair chi mix Gipsy in today to renew her rabies vaccine (and have brought her in every time she needed something since we adopted her a year ago) and am pleased as usual. The vet assistants and desk staff are great and very sweet with my pup. Plus, the prices are incredibly reasonable. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat!

I just left Toluca Lake Dog & Cat Hospital and I couldn’t be more pleased. The Dr. and her assistant were so pleasant and understanding and that made all the difference with my nervous toy chihuahua. They listened to my concerns about her severe Sarcoptic Mange. On top of their great service they didn’t try to up-​sell me on any additional services like Vetco Burbank does. I am so happy I found this place. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a caring vet. Thank you Toluca Lake Dog & Cat Hospital!!!

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Skaar for many years. I’m also a kitten foster and volunteer for the same shelter and non-​profit group you fostered for. On the day you are talking about, Dr. Skaar agreed to help out with a drop-​off appointment (the clinic was fully booked) for another foster’s kittens. I heard you were also sent a while later with your two kittens which caused some confusion.
I’m so sorry for your negative experience, but please know that most of the confusion you describe in your review was from our side and not Toluca Burbank Dog & Cat Hospital’s side. Fortunately your two kittens were OK and have since been adopted. That’s the most important thing!

Dr Skaar was wonderful to my 2 cats I brought in. She had to put one down due to cancer and they made it as comfortable as possible for my sweet Ivy. They don’t treat the pet as a number but with affection.

I started taking my retired racing greyhound to this vet about a year ago on the recommendation of the adoption agency I got my dog through. While Dr. Carol Skaar herself is quite lovely and capable, the same cannot be said of her front office staff. Over the year that I have been taking my dog to them, the front office staff were consistently brusque, bordering on rude. I always figured it was because they were busy, and a little impatient, but things came to a head today, which is why am posting this review and changing vets. My dog got bitten early this morning and had a tennis-​ball sized gash in her side. I called to let them know that we were coming and arrived exactly at 8 o’clock when they open. There were several other dogs also there, none of them in an emergency situation. I waited 30 minutes, before finally asking when my dog might be seen. I was told that there were other dogs who had appointments, and that I would have to wait. I pointed out that my dog had a gaping wound in her side, which clearly constituted an emergency, and asked why no one seemed to care. My inquiry was met with an annoyed stare, and a halfhearted offer that the vet «might» be able to see us in another 30 minutes or so. I picked up the phone and called the vet used by the rescue organization that I got my dog through. They said they could see me immediately, so I went over there. They took my dog in right away, and she was in surgery within 20 minutes. I felt more cared for by these relative strangers than I did by the veterinary staff I have been seeing for over year. I will never go back to Toluca Burbank pet hospital. If you look at my Unilocal profile you will realize that this is probably the first and only negative review I have ever or will ever post. I am not a complainer by nature, far from it, I look for the good to talk about in these forums. But I was so appalled by the lack of compassion and concern that I experienced today I cannot recommend this business under any circumstances.

This place is terrible. If you care about your dog in the slightest, avoid this place at all cost. If you enjoy watching your dog getting chocked until she shits herself the. This is the place for you. They manhandle your dog and I had to scream at them to stop. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE avoid this place or it’ll be your dogs life

I had a horrible experience here. I regularly foster kittens and had two three week old babies that I was fostering for a shelter. One of the kittens had gotten extremely sick (she was losing weight rapidly and having just the worst tummy issues-​I won’t go into detail on here) and the shelter vet couldn’t see me that day. This was the only place with an opening. I got there and the receptionist looked extremely confused and very rudely said that they already had a kitten foster volunteer there and didn’t know anything about me coming (although they called the place and told them I was coming within the hour). She then proceeded to tell me that the vet was leaving for a meeting and she didn’t know when she would be back. I asked if they could give me a call when the vet got back. No. Then I asked if she knew about how long it would be. No. She then told me (again very rudely) that I could leave the kittens there and the vet would try to get around to seeing them when she got back. I felt I had no other choice-​my kitten had to see a vet that day. So I reluctantly leave the kittens there, get into my car, crying because I’m already so worried about the kitten and now this woman is being so rude and unhelpful, and I head home and wait for their call. I get a call a few hours later to «come and pick up the kittens within the next hour because they’re closing and otherwise the *bottle-​fed* kittens will have to stay there overnight (bottle babies need to be fed every few hours, plus these guys were on medication). So I jump in my car and rush over. The receptionist is just as rude as when I got there, so I take the kitties and leave. I didn’t even get to meet the vet, so I don’t know how good she is, but the receptionist alone made me never want to return to this place.

I can’t possibly say enough good things about this pet hospital. I’ve taken my baby girl, Mustache, here since I adopted her from the shelter, and they’ve always taken such good care of her. They’ve even been able to squeeze us into their schedule when we were having some emergency-​esque problems. Dr. Skaar herself always comments to me about how sweet Mustache is, and how soft her coat is (cat mom pride, I can’t help it), and has called me personally to check up on my kitty to make sure she’s doing okay. The staff has always been perfectly nice to me and to my cat. The only negative thing I would add is that sometimes wait times on the phone can be pretty long, but they’re a busy place so I can’t complain too much. ¹⁰⁄₁₀!

I can’t even compare Toluca Burbank to any other dog & cat hospital because I wouldn’t dare go anywhere else. My angel, Dayzee has been their patient since I became her mommy about 10 years ago. They’ve been my go-​to, trusted hospital for every issue since day 1. Today, I was yet again reminded as to why I am so loyal to them… aside from their knowledgeable staff, I had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Skaar for Dayzee’s current issues. $ 161, 2 ointments, and an hour later, I already see a major difference! I am so thankful for this hospital and especially for Dr. Skaar. She is like God’s gift to animals! She is sweet and caring to Dayzee but when needed, she can make Dayzee behave! I love it… I love her & her demeanor! I love everything about them…

I also had a similar issue as some other reviewers, in that I had to wait over half an hour in the waiting room past my appointment time (and I arrived ten minutes early, so I was there for forty minutes, with my poor kitty in her carrier).
This was an additional annoyance to me, because the waiting room is very small, and it seemed like everyone that came in had at least 2 large dogs with them In fact, I didn’t see anyone bring in a cat for the entire time I was there, just large dogs. I don’t like dogs, by the way (total cat lady here).
I was in there because I was worried about a lump on my cat. About five minutes with Dr. Skaar, I was assured it was just fat. $ 42, and an hour later, not sure if I would go back.

Dr. Skaar is sweet, kind, caring and very knowledgable. I wouldn’t trust my pets with anyone else!

I heard about Toluca Burbank Dog & Cat Hospital from a friend and have been bringing my dogs here for years now. The Dr. is very good at what she does, and the entire staff seems to genuinely care about my pets. I am so happy to have found this place, and much prefer it to large chains like VCA.

I love this place! I moved to Burbank a couple of years ago and have brought in both of my kitties multiple times. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I love the pair of retrievers that ‘hang out’ behind the counter, and I am so sad the gray kitty has recently passed. I call these guys quite often for many reasons and they are always helpful and friendly.
Never had any of the non-​professionalism that other reviewers seem to have. Nor have I seen it with any of the other patients in the waiting room.
As for other reviewers saying that TBDACH was in it ‘for the money’- I can dispute: I was unemployed for a while and I had to bring my kitty in for a bladder infection– they worked with me to keep the costs affordable. I am so grateful for that!
Our newest kitty, Jedi, was a rescue that we brought from a foster home. He had been fixed the day before we got him, and as a result, he had a UTI. We didn’t know and it took a couple of weeks to take him in. They were able to schedule him an appointment the same day I called and get him treated right away. Thanks to TBDACH, he was happy and playful the next day.
My older had an infected eye due to a scratch received while playing with Jedi. I called and asked about it– they said t bring her in ASAP, and they also got her in the same day. We got antiobiotics and she seemed to do well. After a month or so, it looked like she still had a bit of a problem with her eye, so they took a look at her again. The vet said it could be other problems, more severe, but I talked to her about what I thought was going on. She listened, and due to that, prescribed a broad antibiotic that worked.
My kitties’ vet is friendly, intelligent, and thoughtful. She listened to what I had to say, and made me feel like I wasn’t some insipid ‘cat lady’. I love all three of the techs and am excited when people ask for a good vet– I know I have an excellent one!

We selected this vet after moving to Burbank. We had one cat with Kidney Disease, who needed constant care. TBCDH made this care easier for us than our old vet back in Boston. Staff is friendly and knowledgable. Medical supplies were easy to pick up, when we needed help with her sub-​Q fluids, they were there. The staff all knew who my kitty was, and when it came time to let go of our little girl, Dr. Skaar was sympathetic to us about what was happening and was honest about what we had to do. It was very sudden and we were not prepared to make that descision that morning, but they helped make it easier for us.
They have very reasonable prices, which makes taking care of three cats much more reasonable! We used to go to a VCA, but after this experience I will never go to a VCA Hospital again. TBCDH always has the patients best interests in mind, never tried to up-​sell me on tests or procedures.
Highly recommend!
