Pele Bonita is Brazilian for «Beautiful Skin.» Mara is a trained esthetician born and raised in Brazil, a place known for sunshine, beauty and celebration.

Mara has over fifteen years experience. Keeping abreast of new trends, Mara constantly goes to conferences and beauty expos to expand her skills.

In 2000, Mara came to San Francisco and fell in love with the city and its mix of cultures; the place where people are hot year round, even when the climate is cold. San Francisco was the perfect place to take her waxing skills to a professional level, because people here appreciate getting a Brazilian wax by a real Brazilian beautician.

Just by word of mouth and over a short period of time, Mara has built a strong, repeat clientele of over men and women, performing over 1,000 Brazilian waxes, a testament to her precision, artistry and individualized treatment.

Mara is an all-​around amazing esthetician! She can do it all. waxing, manicures, facials. She is clean, communicative, knowledgeable, compassionate, artistic and makes you feel comfortable right off the bat. I met Mara through a friend almost a decade ago and I have now referred many of my own friends who have referred their friends. That’s what good customer service and talent is all about!

Mara is the hands down BEST Waxer I’ve ever been to. I’ve been going to see her since she was in SF. Her place in Burlingame is clean, inviting and she makes you feel at ease. I have the deepest roots humanly possible and I’m not going to lie, brazilian waxing hurts me like hell so I barely go, but when I do have to go, there’s no one else I would trust to clean me up. Prices are also very reasonable. Mara also does a great job on brows and pits. Make it a date with your girlfriends. Get a wax then do brunch at Crêpe Vine on Burlingame Ave.

I was convinced by my girlfriend to finally do a facial and was referred to Mara for it. I felt so comfortable that I almost fell a sleep! Mara is very warm and welcoming, with a great personality and perfect attitude.
When I was younger I had pretty bad skin issues, had to go do facials a few time and I hated it. But now things changed and even though I don’t needed it that much anymore I still consider going once in a while just to keep up the looks and smooth skin obviously!

I have been a cosmetology teacher for over 20 years so I am here to tell you that Mara is a thorough professional and meticulous expert in her field. Mara has the most wonderful touch and soothing personality that will transport you to that special place and leave you looking like you’ve just had two weeks in the Caribbean, relaxed and polished to perfection. I don’t ever let anyone touch my face because I have extremely sensitive skin, but Mara knows exactly what and how to use her expertise to get the results that you require, she is the best! I almost want to lie to Unilocal readers and give Mara 1 star to keep her a secret! But I am not that selfish and Mara obviously deserves 10 stars! =)
Simply put, Mara is caring, personable, respectful, friendly, and amazing at her craft. After getting services thru her for years, you inevitably become friends.

Mara is THE BEST! Period. I was referred to her by my cousin about 4 years ago and Mara has been my go to esthetician for brazilian waxes pretty much every month since. She is precise, fast and gets EVERYTHING off! The times I slacked on making my appt. with Mara and have had to get my waxes elsewhere I’ve been sooo disppointed! They have all either made it painful, not gotten everything, and charged an arm and a leg! Mara on the other hand is like a breath of fresh air. She makes the whole experience fun (as fun as these things can be!), and comfortable! I’ve moved from San Francisco to San Mateo and now Richmond and I’ll always make the trip to see Mara!

I was referred to Mara through my sister. At first, even thinking about getting waxed made me uncomfortable. My sister insisted that Mara was good, really nice and did not make you feel awkward at all. So, I went for it…
the first time I went to her I thought well my sister is right. Not only does she make you feel very comfortable, but there is great conversation and she is very thorough and sanitary. (that was another hesitation for me at first). As a matter of fact, I think its time to make another appointment!

I love love love love Mara!
I have been seeing her for almost 2 years now. When I first saw her, it was actually my 2nd time getting waxed. The first time, I went to a spa & it didnt go so well. I broke out … BAD! So I was very skeptical about getting it done again. Mostly all my friends go to her & have been going for quite sometime now. So I gave it another try with Mara.
I told her the situation the first time and she explained to me why it happened and why it might happened again. I have very very very very sensitive skin and it took us a while to find the right wax for my skin to handle. Now, she uses hard wax on me & (knock on wood) my skin has been handling it very well. No break outs! A BIG BIG BIG +++++++++ ~ goOo HARD WAX!
She is very patient with rescheduling and fitting you in, in her already hectic busy schedule! Which is a definite plus for me! She is kind, gentle and doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. (keeping in mind your cuca is out there & your about to get your hairs pulled out) j/​k! :D She would have promotions where you can get a wax for free. That is a major +++ for me especially with the economy. She is not only your cuca beautifier but your FRIEND!

You WILL NOT get a wax better than with Mara. Her waxes are by far the least painful you will ever have! I have tried many places around the city and there has yet to be another Mara. I am really particular when it comes to my wax and Mara surpasses every expectation you might have. She is quick and leaves you clean with no hair left behind. To top it off, she’s warmhearted and makes you feel extremely comfortable. AMAZING!!!

Mara has been my esthetician for about 7 years now. Was recommended by a friend and now go to no one else. Since I’ve lived in Danville, I would make the 45 minute commute. (That’s commitment don’t you think?) Now that I live in Burlingame, I’m less than 10 minutes from her. Her availability is never challenging; she seems to always find a way to work with your schedule.
She’s very precise and thorough, very hygienic and professional. She’s not just your esthetician, she becomes your friend. She’s funny and down to earth. This might be weird to say for the service you’re here for but for the 10 – 15 minutes, we have fantastic and hilarious conversations! Wouldn’t trust anyone else with… well you know… the only time I’ve been elsewhere was when she was on maternity leave. She’s the best!

I have been going to Pele Bonita for over 2 years during that time she was still in San Francisco. As much i hated the drive to the City, Mara made the trip worth it! I haven’t gone to anyone else since! She always makes time to see you and in case she’s totally booked, she tries to fit you in the next availability or call/​email if someone cancels. She can see you as early as 730 am. She’s awesome! I love her new place in San Mateo. She talks to you the whole time you are getting waxed so it takes away from the pain of getting waxed. Every time i leave her place, i’m always very pleased. I’ve introduced a couple of my friends to her, they were all afraid the first time but are now loyal customers. Thank you Mara!

I have been going to Mara for over 5 years now and she is simply amazing! I remember for my first time going to her, she explained everything to me and was very gentle. Mara is a great waxist and it seems like I’m always catching up with a good friend every month I see her. She really takes the time to see how you’re doing and is very genuine.
If you want to go to a waxist that is great and also a kind person, I’d highly recommend Mara!
