I have yet to try a better cheese batard or kougan amann. This is one of my regular go-to’s. If you love this bakery as much as I do, know that they plan to close their storefront as of May 1! I suggest starting a campaign to email the owner. Feel free to copy and paste my words below (if you agree) and email directly to the owner:

2.5 wasn’t really impressed. especially compared to the top SF bread spots. croissant and kouign amann, just not that moist, buttery, flaky, or tasty. small outpost; supplies other restaurants/​stores, and would be like a grocery bakery.

For the love of carbs and that beautiful (cheese) batard.
When in the area, definitely worth a stop for the croissants, danishes, muffins, and freshly baked bread. About a dozen or so pastry offerings and a half dozen breads.
Tucked away like the hidden treasure it on the other side of the freeway from downtown Millbrae, it’s a great place to pick up pastries and breads, but not so great for lounging. (But maybe you could sneak your bread over to New England Lobster Market & Eatery, grab a drink, and enjoy the lovely weather at the outside tables.)
Although the almond croissant is quite good, I’m still looking for a Bay Area place that bakes ones as transcendent as the Twice Baked Almond Croissant at Seattle-​based Bakery Nouveau.

Pastries taste much better than what I expected. I came right when they opened and my danish was still warm. You can taste the freshness and nothing is too sweet. I wish I found out about this place sooner!

Getting ready for a road trip, friends and I decided to stop by at Petits Pains for some bread and pastries.
We bought a loaf of olive loaf bread and Walnut/​raisin bread. We also bought croissants and almond pastries.
Price is reasonable. Staff was attentive and friendly.
Definitely will go back to try other pastries and breads.

This is one of a small handful of foodie places tucked into odd corners in burlingame.
This is an industrial bakery that supplies goods for local groceries and restaurants but it does operate a small open to the public section. It’d be a stretch to call this a bakery in the sense that most people expect as it’s mostly focused on wholesale.
There’s seating for perhaps six people, and the coffee is a kuerig type single serve machine. Don’t waste your time, money, effort and taste buds on the coffee.
Instead focus on getting superior french bakery items at wholesale pricing.
Roughly speaking you can get the entire line of baked goods that petits pains offers for not quite half the price of what you’d pay anywhere else.
The bakery items are produced with more the the usual care. Items include the expected baguettes and croissants, but also include a range of batards along with a complex range of pastries such as kouign-​amanns.
As far as I’m concerned the batards especially the cheese batard on offer here is easily the best that can be found anywhere. It’s hard to go wrong with pastries as well. They are more tart then the usual american donut style sweet.
As if this wasn’t enough they also have a «happy hour». The already fair wholesale pricing is knocked down 50% at 3 pm.
Some small downsides– as noted this is located in an industrial area, parking is street only-​and it’s not a nice tree lined avenue with perfect sidewalks. It’s exactly what you’d expect to find in a factory area by the airport. It’s not a place to sit and have a latte while reading vogue.
The sitting area isn’t bad, but it’s not meant to be a showcase.
If you are anywhere close by however, this is worth a stop. Regardless of the location it produces excellent french/​artisanal breads and pastries.

Excellent french bakery. As judged by a demanding French man. Baguettes, ficelles, brioche, pain de champagne. All baked à la française.

This place is absolutely one of the best bakeries I have been to in a long time. Their bread is always fresh, and delicious nothing to envy to the bakeries up in the city. Their cheese bread is to die for! With the holidays approaching this is definitely the place to order my bread. You can also order coffee here, but be advice this is not a cafeteria so the’re no seats. But, who cares when the pastries are so worth it.

I work pretty close to here, so when I have a break I walk over for the chocolate croissants. I had a cheese batard once and that was really good. My husband really likes the baguettes

— Weird setup: The workers are usually in the back and come to the register when someone comes in. Enter through the front doors and walk left. The first time I came here, I thought it was closed

Small store front selling their goods. Don’t expect to sit down and have a cup of coffee with your pastry.
Pastries are on par with other french pastries. They have an assortment of muffins, croissants, danishes, kouign amanns, brioche, morning buns, etc.
The one thing that I keep coming back to is the cheese batard! This loaf of bread is delicious and I have not found anything similar to it. It is a soft loaf bread filled with gruyère cheese and topped with gruyère cheese! One loaf will set you back $ 3.20.
Happy hour is 3−5pm. Buy one get one half off.

This is the factory shop that deliver to grocery stores all across the bay area. If you notice at Whole Foods most of the pastries and donuts are from this place. So we decided to go to the source as we see it almost every day on our commute.
Prices are a little expensive for it being a factory outlet of sorts, but the every item tastes so good and fresh. Definitely will go back here whenever i have time on my commute.

I kept seeing this bakery on the freeway on my commute every day. So one Friday morning I decided to stop by and get breakfast for my team. This is actually a small shop connected to a pastry factory. It’s probably just a mini part of the factory. The staff there actually work in the back and get to see customers through a small window.
The pastries them selves are very fresh and taste amazing. The chocolate croissant did lack a bit of chocolate though. I found the prices to be a bit steep (considering its attached to the factory). You’d think they would be slightly cheaper, but they are about the same as other bakeries.
I would stay away from the coffee though, its just from a nexpresso machine.

Interesting set up, but when I walked in around 8am, there was no one there to assist me. I had to wait until someone got off the phone in the office before someone could help me.
I ordered a chocolate croissant and an americano. The croissant was ok, but felt a little dry to me, as if they had been out for a while. It was not as buttery as I had hoped and the chocolate filling was lacking. It did not smell like fresh pastries. The americano was ok, as it came from a Nespresso machine. It was definitely not hot though.
Would not make the trip out to this place as there is no ambiance but if I was around, I may stop by.

Cute patisserie in a random location, Burlingame off the 101/​Airport Blvd (so near the airport sort of).
Nays:
–Hard to find parking! Street parking only.
–Open only Monday — Friday 7am — 5pm.
–No savory options (when I went).
Yays:
–They sell kougin amman (sp) which is one of my favorite sweet breads to eat! Get the chocolate one ZOMG so good, and toast it in the oven for just a minute or two to get it warm and crispy. The pumpkin and cherry ones were a bit soggy, but the chocolate one was amazing. (Note: not as yummy as b patisserie in the city, but quite a good price instead!!)
–Almond croissants are pretty tasty.
–Wide selection for such a small shop: muffins, tartlets, cakes (not the frosted/​birthday kinds)/pastries and danishes

–Seasonal flavors! I asked about prune kougin ammans, they will have it at some point during the year. I’m excited for that!
Expect to pay $ 3/​treat!

Take the high ratings with a grain of salt — I guess given the location, if this is where you work, it’s probably the best option on the block since it’s mostly warehouses.
1) This is NOTHING like a real French bakery. First of all, you don’t smell any of the delicious buttery carb goodness. In fact, it felt like a bookstore where they happened to sell pastries.
2) Those pastries are clearly NOT fresh and they looked like they had been sitting out there for awhile (dry, stale, or if there was cheese, it looked very questionable)
3) When I chose to buy a brownie (come on, a brownie of all things at a French bakery?), the employee (who walked over from the office next door) said «Oh, I forgot we had those.» I then eyed her suspiciously and asked, «Does this mean this is old?» She quickly corrected herself and stated, «No, that’s usually our most popular item.»
Hmm. Right. And just as I expected, it was really dry, stale, and tasted sort of like cardboard.
Seriously not worth the trip, even if I only drove a mile out of the way. Also, no seating (not that you’d really want to sit down and stay awhile). I would say Paris Baguette (which isn’t authentic either) blows this place out of the water, and for the same price point with way more of an ambiance.

The «real deal». Authentic croissants and «pain au chocolat» (a.k.a. Chocolate Croissants) at a reasonable price. I’ve only had (slightly) better ones in the region at Voyageurs du Monde in Los Altos, but those are also about 80% more expensive. The one thing to consider is the location. Petits Pains is in a light industrial zone so it’s a destination bakery, not someplace you would stumble upon while window-​shopping in the downtown.

I accidentally got charged for a baguette in addition to my loaf of brioche. Claire helped me reconcile the issue by having me stop by the shop to pick up the baguette and also got a chocolate croissant on the house. My husband ate the croissant and said it was almost as good as tartine bakery. Great to have a nice bread company on the peninsula that makes brioche in forms other than hamburger buns.

I stumbled across Peitis Pains driving along 101. I went in hoping to buy a croissant, but there was barely anything left when I arrived around 1pm. I ended up buying a loaf of the Viennoise Plain, which is an egg enriched bread. The bread was hard and tasted stale. I tried toasting to see if it’d be better, but the results were the same.
Overall, I was disappointed with the visit.

Been visiting the peninsula a lot lately since my pup’s vet is in San Mateo.
Stumbled across this place as it can be seen right off the freeway… almond croissants are yummy! Will have to try other items soon!

Well, I can see my «January» diet plans are moot! Had the good fortune to purchase their light & fantastic chocolate croissant, hearty olive battard, sourdough baguette, chocolate-​coconut shortbread cookie & half loaf sliced Millstone bread! Thankfully, not all solely consume by Moi!
Everyone is beyond friendly in the staff, and very knowledgeable! Their goods are done the French way-​which is fantastic! My daughter was addicted daily to buying a baguette to walk around with when in Paris-​you can’t help yourself once you’ve tasted «the real thing»! All goods are reasonably priced. Location is easy to locate-​but a destination site-​off the beaten path. Great free street parking-​you can run in and out, no problem. Or, meet someone and have a coffee and pastry! Not fancy, but homey place-​if you Parlez Francaise, PRACTICE on them! If you are planning a walk behind the Marriott along the shoreline, this is the perfect reward! Cooking a hearty soup? You NEED their bread to go along with it!
