Spot Bagel

Unfortunately this business is now closed. I hadn’t had a good bagel in the SF Bay Area for years… had totally given up… but low and behold, SPOT bagel appears with aromatic organic bagels. Most people loved the Everything & Double Onion and I loved getting the Poppyseed (great with Cap’n Mike’s Holy Smoked Salmon and my fave cream cheese Gina Marie’s, sold at Canyon Market). However, the absolute best was the orange poppy bagel… I once had it first thing in the morning from the bakery delivery and it was inhalable (is that a word? it should be.). I made the website, ran the PR, marketing, and social media, so of course I’m sorry to lose a client… but I’m also sorry to see them go because they kept improving their recipes and had one hell of a bagel at the end.

complete garbage. i’ve had better bagels at safeway, and those were the worst bagels i’ve had before i tried spots… «spot, bad dog!!»
totally wrong flavor, totally wrong texture, totally great marketing…

I grew up in New York, and there learned, among other things, to know and to love a good bagel, but these are the best that I have ever had. They use the best available organic ingredients in the best possible way, resting the dough just the right amount of time before boiling and then baking. Perfection. Fabulous. I love being a Frisco foodie, and these folks are a very fine addition to our local scene. We can eat better here than anywhere. Hooray for that, and for them.

Honestly, I simply don’t believe the ratings I’m seeing. Several from brand new reviewers and all of those are fabulous. I don’t believe they are legit in the least. I have tried them twice and frankly, House of Bagels (now Bay Area Bagels) is far superior. I love NY bagels and prefer Ess-​A-​Bagel over everything else, but these are nowhere close. Way too dense and the flavor just isn’t there. Sorry, I want to support Burlingame businesses very much, but I am not a fan.

Double onion is my favorite flavor. unlike other onion bagels that use a dehydrated onion topping, Spot bagels uses fresh red and yellow onions. you can really taste the fresh onion flavor, but not too overpowering. i like to toast my bagel on both sides, slice afterwards, this gives it a nice crust and soft, and tender inside. then stuff with molinari salami, my favorite sandwich.

I LOVE orange poppy bagel! I don’t even toast. I just dip in honey and eat. it is sooooooooooooooo good.
i also like to dip the jalapeño bagel in honey. great combination.
make sure to eat them fresh. a bit crunchy outside and doughy inside.
now it is hard to buy other bagels… i was at whole paycheck café and had to get their bagel since everything else was sugary. it was… well, it was like bread, not bagel. i wished they carried spot bagels.

Really a crap bagel. They’d be perfect if you love Noah’s, and your favorite kind of bagel is blueberry, or chocolate chip.
Perhaps they should have spent more time on recipe development or gotten down the bagel itself before coming up with unusual flavors and extravagant marketing materials. As it stands, there’s no reason to eat these. Tough, chewy, poor outside texture, (short proofing time? probably.) overly dense and even crumb. Did I mention they’re a dollar a piece? I can have
Here’s hoping Californians aren’t dumb enough to fall for the cute branding, we don’t need another Noah’s.

After a long extended bike ride on a early foggy Sunday morning my bike makes a left down Lorton Avenue, I am hitting a pretty good pace when out of the corner of my eye I noticed that Burlingame Produce has the open sign out.
Screeeeeeeeeech! I hit the brakes, nearly doing a flyover my handovers.
She is in there waiting for me. I just know it. I am a sweaty mess, but don’t care and I run wanting her. There she is, but something is different. I can’t put my finger one it but this isn’t the same. «One orange poppyseed bagel please».
My lust and desire for her is just too strong and I have her wrapped and I head straight for my condo. My bagel arousal is hitting a 10 on the Bagel Richter Scale as I throw her on my kitchen counter. I carefully slice her in half, my hands gripping her tightly I begin to moan. Time to get you hot baby. I gently slide her into my toaster. As she laid in my toaster getting warm and moist I get out the bagel sex toy (aka butter).
«owie! owie! owie! owie!» I scream as I remove her from the toaster. Sorry to almost break the mood, but have you ever removed a freshly toasted bagel from a toaster? That is one finger burner!
I blow cool air on my finger tips and begin to dab butter inside of her. She is so hot that the butter immediately melts. I cannot take it anymore and move in for a taste. I then realize that she has a surprise for me.
Whoa! «Is that orange I taste?»
It most certainly is, my hot little bagel who on our first encounter tasted like a regular poppyseed bagel now tastes like orange! HOT!!! Each and every bite gets me hotter with each taste. Multiple bagelgasms!
I learned something this morning. If you are picking up a bagel from the Spot Bagel display, the orange poppyseed bagels are on the right side and the regular poppyseed is on the left. I believe I was give the regular poppyseed on my last visit. The orange poppyseed bagel is nothing like I have ever tasted. If you want your own personal bagelgasms then I suggest you make a stop to your nearest Spot retailer soon.

Local SF stores just began carrying SPoT today. They are at Bi-​Rite, Canyon Market, Good Life, and many other locations.
Awesome organic artisan bagels. Boiled & baked (like the real New York Bagels) giving them the perfect texture on the inside. I tried the Frida (spicy Mexican: delish dipped in a touch of honey) and the Orange Poppy seed (incredible flavors). When they are this good, you don’t need to toast them. Spices and seasonings are not only on the outside, but are also baked into the dough. Full flavor goodness!!!
