Pyara Spa and Salon

For the most part, the staff who perform the services are outstanding. I’ve found a great master stylist as well as esthetician and massage therapist. However, beware the junior stylists – I had a horrible haircut from one. To be fair, the salon got me in with a master stylist to correct it, but it was still a hassle. I would rate the spa and salon 4 stars EXCEPT that the front desk staff are exceptionally incompetent. Paying with a combination of gift card and credit card is quite confusing to them, and most recently, they booked my appointment with a random stylist vs. the one I had been seeing. I have also heard similar stories from friends who go to the salon.

Got an eyebrow wax with Suzie and I’m VERY pleased. She is super friendly and quick! And my brows were amazing.
Everyone at the salon is super friendly but I also got my acrylics filled and I was not pleased with the result. My nails were bumpy and the polish was sloppy. Plus I asked her for a matte coat when she started and she just did a regular top coat. Ended up going somewhere else the next morning to get a polish change.
Also very, very expensive.

I had a haircut hear after I found it on Unilocal.I was a bit hesitant at first because it was a bit more for a men’s haircut then I am used for paying, but after 1 week I love my haircut. Totally worth it and definitely coming back for the next one.

The salon is well kept, clean and well run. They have great service! I give it 3 stars as I had a bad experience with my hair and that I believe is personal. I had to head back to my hairdresser to fix the issues, that was not fun. I will probably return for spa services and maybe blow dry services because of how close they are.

I just got a partial foil and was so frustrated by the outcome and cost that I couldn’t even wait an hour to write a review. I’ve never written a bad review for a hairdresser because it feels so personal but this is more for the salon than the hairdresser. They shouldn’t be charging such obscene prices for such junior hairstylists.
I called and asked for pricing — explaining exactly what I usually get done; a full foil with highlights and some lowlights to break it up. He told me it would be $ 155 for the full or $ 125 if I decided to do a partial. When I got to the salon, the hairdresser convinced me to get a partial since my overall hair is pretty light. I said ok, great — I’ll save some time AND money!
2 hours and $ 200 later, my hair looks almost exactly the same as it did when I showed up. She barely got my roots and it looks like I need to get it done again… One hour later. It’s also an incredibly dull blonde color with barely any lowlights. I showed her a picture of what my hair looks like right after I get it done from my prior hairdresser — bright with no roots and light blonde breaking it all up. What I got was nooooothing like what I showed her.
Time to leave and I find out I was also charged an extra $ 20 for toner and an extra $ 30 for «multidimensional foil» — neither of which was mentioned on the phone when I explained EXACTLY what I was planning to get. The receptionist removed the toner charge when my jaw dropped to the floor at the price difference so one extra star for that guy…
I’m so unimpressed with the result but the price/​value is what infuriates me. This was a $ 75 color job at best.

I really hate writing a bad review for this place, because I love aveda products. And Pyara is usually awesome.
Called yesterday to see if they had any day-​of appointments, last minute. I was told the only opening was 7 15. I really wanted a facial, but there were no openings for one. I asked the woman who answered the phone what services they had available and I was told I could get a wash, cut, blow dry and style. Yesterday was one of those days where I needed pampering! She seemed friendly and excited to book me. I made the arrangements, jumped on the highway from Chelmsford and made my way there.
I get 7 minutes from the salon in Burlington, to be called by the manager, who sounded frantic to tell me, «unfortunately, we close at eight and will not be able to style your hair. The account notes for you say you have long curly hair and there will not be enough time.» First of all– I have wavy hair with minimal frizz, it’s extremely easy to style and it’s less than shoulder length. Second of all– why would I just want a wash and cut? I don’t want to leave the salon with wet unstyled hair. What’s the point in that?
It was an awkward phone call, and quite frankly extremely rude. If that were the case, wouldn’t the hostess have known not to book something at 7 15? I just drove 15 miles for nothing– 30 mile round trip– to be completely let down. If you are open until eight, and you can bring a customer in, why turn them the way? I was extremely disappointed and pissed that I wasted gas to be called by a «manager» after the appointment was made.
I work in the restaurant business. Weekdays we close at 10, weekends we close at 11. If a guest walks in at 9 59, or 10 59, I have to serve them. How can you be in the service industry and refuse service? You should know better as a «manager». And your hostess should have the correct information to not portray miscommunication, because I felt uncomfortable and agitated. I will not return.

I went here for the first time today for a 30 minute facial. I have never been there but my boss gave me a gift card so I tried it out. This establishment is very clean and nice layout. I didn’t have to wait long and I enjoyed my experience. I will definitely come again.

I have been here twice and can honestly say it is the best spa experience I have had. The service is superb and the waxing and nail services are fantastic. I highly recommend Pyara if you are looking for a truly relaxing, amazing experience.

It’s been a while since I wrote about Pyara because honestly the service has remained excellent since I started going in 2011. This review is in regard to my latest visit on ¹¹⁄₁₄.
Things were hectic and I hadn’t been for a couple months, so I decided to make a marathon day: facial, massage, and manicure/​pedicure. I have my favorite service providers so it was a task finding a day everyone was working that fit my schedule, but I finally got my appointment.
Started out with a 60 minute facial with Mary. My face had been feeling really oily for a few weeks and she performed a few extractions. It was fantastic catching up with her while she worked, and by the time she finished, my face felt brand new. There were literally layers of crud gone from my nose, a tough spot that attracts grime be cause of my glasses.
After my facial I had some of the hot tea and went in for my 60 minute massage with Patricia. I’ve been experiencing sporadic pain in one of my legs and an immense amount of tightness in my lower back, so Patricia worked those areas for most of the time but still fit in a full body. I felt bad while she worked my back: I think she might require hazard pay working on me when I go back. Needless to say, when the time was up, I would have much rather preferred to lie on the massage table and nap for an hour than get up. But then I wouldn’t have gotten to see Ronda!
The water in the foot bath was perfect — not too hot, not cool — and I shed yet another layer of crud while she buffed my feet with a pumice. I could have napped while she worked but we spent the whole time catching up about ourselves and respective families. When it came time for the manicure, she took care of some awful hang nails and salvaged the victims of my nail-​biting.
I can’t say enough good things about my visit or the spa in general. I’ve been visiting since 2011 and have no intention of finding another establishment, so that should say whatever I may be excluding.
While I have my favorite go-​to girls, I have had services with other service providers and have never been disappointed. I’m also excited for Natacia, one of the exceptionally friendly front-​desk staff, who is going to be (or is already) a massage therapist. Further, Ada and Maryana always make me feel special when checking in and out.

My sister and I walked out supremely pleased with the results of both hair and make up for her wedding this past fall.
Erin listens carefully and has excellent attention to detail. My sisters hair even looked good the next day!
Mary is in one word «adorable» with her Betty Boop pin up style but don’t let that fool you. She did the most romantic make up for my sister and a softer version on me.
The salon was great and opened early for us. All in all it was a great experience.

The only reason I’m giving this a 4 star and not 5 is because I had to wait for 40 minutes even after taking an appointment! But it was a holiday so I could afford to wait. Mary did a great job on my hair. I went in for a hair cut, wanted to go short, cut 8 inches off! I was a little nervous about it, but she did well. She gave me the length exactly what I wanted, a longer bob cut. She also had good suggestions like to add in layers. So the layers underneath actually added volume and does not make my hair look flat. She also used some aveda products on my hair which smell great btw! I was worried that after the products are washed off, my hair will look like a mess but it looks really good even after the wash. I got a ton of compliments at work!

I just saw Laura today for a hair cut!!! She is wonderful!!! Professional and totally knows what she is doing! I asked for advice, she gave it to me, left there looking and feeling great! Will def. go back and recommend her to others:)

I LOVE this hair salon. As a hair nut (I *obsess* about my hair), this review is very meaningful.
I have had my hair styled and cut at Pyara three times. Every stylist I had was great. Each gave me really great recommendations about how to take care of my hair.
I have super curly hair that I straighten often. As such, I had a good amount of damage when I first visited. They cut off all the dead ends and recommended damage shampoo/​conditioner. My hair is now healthier than ever and has stopped breaking.
I went back yesterday (Burlington) and Allison recommended a one hour keratin treatment. I was skeptical since keratin (and every other straightening treatment under the sun) has not worked for me. After the treatment, my hair is nearly pin straight. I am so, so, so happy. Allison made an awesome recommendation and also cleaned up my layers nicely!
One small caveat: since it’s an Aveda salon, they only recommend Aveda products, which are pretty expensive but in my experience, worth the extra money. The recommended damage product has been working great in tandem with a trim every ten weeks.
The reception is great, as they ask you want water or tea while you’re waiting. They also offer a complimentary neck/​shoulder message before the haircut.
The service is pretty expensive but worth it completely.

This salon is just lovely. I love Aveda products and have always had good experiences at Aveda salons, which, while not cheap, pack a lot of bang for your buck.
I visited Pyara because I wanted to make a semi-​dramatic change, from blonde to thick red highlights and then ultimately (6 weeks later) a full-​on transition to redhead. They paired me with Jesus, who is wonderful! I’m the type that comes in with a few ideas and vague concepts, but really believes in letting the artists do their work. I gave Jesus a lot of leeway, which he took only after listening and fully understanding what I really wanted. Anything he had questions on, he asked, and he was generally just extremely fun and pleasant to be around. He was just as excited as I was about the full-​red transformation… and even took before & after pics! If you’re the adventurous type who wants a ‘do to match your personality… Jesus is your man, I promise.
In addition to rock star hair (I literally turned 2 heads on the way home from my most recent appointment), Jesus gave me great product recommendations, without being pushy. The color conserve shampoo really makes a difference if you’re getting dramatic color.
All in all Pyara is a great experience… convenient text message reminders, sweet herbal tea while you wait, pleasant staff members and top notch product. Highly recommend!

Despite my unpleasant experience in their «hair» department, I am changing the 1 star rating I gave them to 5 stars because my mani/​pedi experience with Danielle was an amazing one! (I solved the hair problem by going to Pyara Aveda in Harvard Square where I get amazing service, and actually get what I paid for, every time).

I love this salon. I drive down from Cambridge, MA to get my hair cut here because it’s such a great, relaxing space with awesome staff.
I get my hair cut with Melissa who is amazing. I have never had as much fun having hair as I have since I started seeing her. She encouraged me to do what I want with my hair and is really knowledgeable about what it takes to keep that up. I never feel like she is pushing me to buy products which makes me feel comfortable and trust her advice.
Yes, this place is pricey but it’s totally worth it.

Ashley is a great masseuse with great technique. What a great attitude. I cut my hair at the Pyara in H Square but this is my first spa experience with Pyara. The amenities are not as nice as Bella Sante (Bella Sante has a sauna and more items in the bathroom) but better massage technique. Great aromatherapy and enjoyed the foot bath soak too. Came an hour early to relax shower read and enjoy their tea and chocolate :) thanks Ashley — hope you get a raise! Again, what great technique and attitude. Exceptional.

My first visit to this spa was ok. The leg wax, pedicure and hair cut were well done. However, yesterday’s visit was not so good. The leg wax was so painful I could not let her finish. She was just hurting me too much. I then found that I had a bruise the size of my hand on my thigh. I have had my legs waxed for many years and have never had such a poor experience.
When I requested to speak to the manager — I was told she was gone for the day. When I requested an incident report form — I was told they didn’t have any. Today the manager called and after some discussion let me know that his staff «Knows what they are doing» and the problem (pain and bruising) must be due to a health issue. Again I have had my legs waxed for years and have never ever had an experience even close to this one.
I have cancelled all future appointments. I just can’t risk another poor experience from people who do not know what they are doing, in a spa so poorly managed.

I first went to Pyara with a friend of mine. He got a massage and I got a mani/​pedi. He said his massage was great, and my mani/​pedi with Michelle was awesome! Everything in the spa is so clean and nice, and its def run very well and smoothly.
After talking with someone while waiting in the spa area for my friend to finish about the facial she had just gotten, I knew I wanted to go back for one.
Well I just recently had myself a spa day here and it was wonderful. Had a 60 min facial with Debbie and it was fantastic. Very relaxing and my skin looked great. I was originally scheduled for another type of service with her but after explaining to me what I had signed up for, she customized a facial for my skin instead that was more of what I needed. I was very happy with her for taking initiative to do that. Manicure and Pedicure was also great, I switched to a gel manicure on my nails and they were very helpful with scheduling that in. Last I got a blow dry from Jesus… the shampoo itself felt like a treatment and my hair looked fantastic for 2+ days!
Working on Newbury St in Boston in the salon industry myself I have very high expectations and its sometimes hard for me to be the client… not here though! I am always pleased with my services and totally relaxed. I have recommended this spa to friends as well as co workers (as its always fun to sometimes go outside of work to get pampered!)
