History

Established in 1982.

Daniel R. Spirer, G.G. began making jewelry over 35 years ago. He is a Graduate Gemologist and a leader in the retail industry on the issue of gemstone treatment disclosure. He is a member of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) and served on their first retail affiliates board for one year. Combining a fascination with both the artistic and scientific, Daniel has produced jewelry for over 30 years that is both unique and distinctive. A passion for colored stones and their proper identification, the use of extremely high quality gem materials, diamonds and metals, and the desire to have fun have allowed him to produce both whimsical pieces based on a great interest in the vast realms of the universe and extremely functional basic jewelry such as wedding bands and engagement rings. Custom work utilizing a customer’s ideas is a specialty but the range of work shown in the shop is extensive enough that often people can find something appealing already created.

Business Owner

Daniel R. Spirer, G.G. began making jewelry over 35 years ago when he trained under David Goldfarb, artist and jeweler in Stamford, CT. At the age of 19 he moved to the Boston area and started a wholesale jewelry company, Silver Unlimited, Inc., which operated for five years. He then took in a partner and formed Spirer Somes Jewelers which initially did craft shows for five years and then in 1982 opened a store in North Cambridge near Porter Square. In 1984 he became a Graduate Gemologist after successful completion of the gemology program run by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). In 2004 the partnership of Spirer Somes Jewelers dissolved and Daniel opened his own store (Daniel R. Spirer Jewelers) in the same building the partnership had been located in. He currently sits as a member of the jewelry department’s advisory board at the North Bennett Street School.
