We are staying in the Camden Hills State Park across from the Mount Battie Take Out and Ice Cream stand. We saw it but never thought much about it until we read the reviews on Unilocal.Very glad we did, this place serves great food and friendly advice for the traveler. I had fried scallops. «They’re deep sea scallops, «the owner said as though I might have second thoughts. They were sweet and succulent; I was ready to slap my wife’s hand as she reached for a second and then a third scallop from my basket. But there were more than enough without starting a skirmish. I have dreamt about them since and will have them again before we leave. My wife had the lobster roll. It was good and much better than the one she had at Peter Otts in Camden and at about 60% of the price. I guess we paid more for view. But the lobster roll can’t compare to Reds Eats in terms of quantity and quality of the lobster. She says she is ordering the scallops next time(she owes me 3 scallops but I bet I’ll never be paid back)!

Wow! Skip the tourist crap in town(i.e. Cappy’s/The Lobster Pound) and eat here. It is a very cute road side stand right outside the entrance to Camden Hills State Park. I ordered the lobstah roll and it was delicious and a very reasonable price. In fact, two local guys were there ordering lobstah rolls on their breaks and said it was the best value in town. The guys running the place are super friendly. We also ordered a fried haddock sandwich and blueberry ice cream. All delicious and reasonably priced. If you don’t need a waitress or to sit on the water and just want good food for a good price, this is the spot. They were out of clams and shrimp when we went at 1:30 so if you want those, get there early.

BEST lobster roll we have ever had. Fries are ok, other fried seafood is very decent, but not too exciting. Fun place to stop!

Needed a bite after hiking in Camden State Park and took a gamble on this place. All the seafood was really fresh, nicely breaded, and tender. I had clams, my husband had scallops, and my daughter had shrimp. All three were excellent.

Good little place for some down east snacks! Lobster rolls are all claw meat and that’s good to me, but could have used a little more mayo if you can believe that. I would eat here again for sure, but probably not get the lobstah roll again. Fast service too.

Excellent!!! Great food, lots of it, fast and friendly, at a reasonable price. What more can I say? My husband gets the lobster roll, I get the fish and chips, and we split an order of onion rings. We drive out of our way when we’ve been to Augusta or Portland just to go here. YUMMY!!!

The reviews on Unilocal stand firm. A shack on the side of the road well worth the risk. The parking lot was full which is always a good sign. Mount Battie Takeout is delicious. The lobster roll is top of the list for anyone eating their way across Maine. All claw meat, light on the dressing and the bun was toasted to perfection. The clam basket was a feast for two. I’ve never had clams so big. The batter was light and fluffy a perfect compliment to such tender clams. As we sit at the picnic table outdoor dining in style, wishing we had room for a scoop of ice cream, we realize … we’ll just have to come back again tomorrow.

My first lobster roll. Loved it. And the clam chowder is excellent with some nice seasoning including a bit more pepper than usual. I love pepper so this is great. Lunch for two was 36 dollars, but we did get the most xpensive items. Well worth stopping, this place is more than a roadside stand. A great stop before or after Mt Battie itself.

We stopped for the ice cream & were very pleased by the quality(Giffords-yumm) and the prices. My medium sundae was generous & hubby’s brown cow(root beer float in case you were wondering!) was great too — of course I sampled! Very friendly gentleman waited on us –I think probably the owner. Just a very nice stop on busy Rte 1 for a bite to eat or a treat.
