American Leak Detection

ALD read my previous reviews and reached out to me in a very sincere effort to make things right. They listened to my concerns and issued a refund. Under the circumstances, I’m upgrading my rating because they really did everything they could do to make things better.

I have used this service on several occasions. The first time was to do a leak check on my jacuzzi. The second time was to do a leak check on my pool. The technician found a leak in the skimmer in both the jacuzzi and the swimming pool. I spent about $ 1500 on the leak detection and the repair. The jacuzzi leak got fixed but the swimming pool continued to leak. I then spent another $ 300 for a leak detection and another $ 450 for a repair which has not worked. It has been two weeks and the technician has not come out to fix this problem. Today the technician was scheduled but did not show up probably because the supervisor is prioritizing new jobs which earn the company money ahead of repairs of bad quality jobs which obviously they have to do for free. This is the worst service I have ever had from any company. I will NEVER use their service again. Also the lady who answered the phone was suspicious about me and asked me how I knew the water level was going down! I can’t believe how little the people in this office care about customer service. When I asked to talk to the technician directly he would not call me back until I called back twice more and YELLED at the lady who answers the phone. I also asked to talk to the supervisor who would not call me back until I YELLED at the lady who called to cancel the appointment. Now after multiple YELLINGS the supervisor calls me back to apologize for the poor service. It’s too late. They asked me to fill up the pool so they could more effectively do the leak detection. Another $ 100 flushed down the drain. I will never, ever use this company again.

called American Leak Detection after noticing a leak in our front lawn. Even before they came out they tried to troubleshoot the problem asking what Contra Costa Water Department already did. They were very prompt in coming out, courteous and located the leak fairly quickly. We paid a flat fee and now will be using them to correct the problem.

Obviously just a bought into franchise. Just one guy (Bill-​owner/​operator) running around in his truck and his wife answers calls and she only takes them/​returns messages between 5PM and 6PM. I’m guessing that’s when she gets home from her REAL job or whatever. Probably running the business out of their house…
Anyways, my pool was losing anywhere from 1 ½″ to 2″ of water a day last December. After looking online and checking Unilocal (with the ONE 5 star review for this guy… actually, the ONLY review.) I decided to give them a try.
Bill came out, and right off the bat, he had the customer service skills and manners of a billygoat. I shrugged my shoulders and went back in the house and let him do his thing, checking on him so often. He pulled out his equipment and started checking, emptied my spa and was looking at that, etc. but DIDN’T EVEN DIVE IN THE POOL TO CHECK THE BOTTOM DRAIN to see if there was a leak there. I asked him why he didn’t check that, and his response was, «I don’t think there is a problem there.» Rough translation: «The water’s cold! I ain’t getting in there!» Umm… isn’t that why I’m paying you $ 350? However, in my passive aggressive nature, I didn’t push the issue (and now, I’m kicking myself wishing I did at the time) and just took his word for things at the time. I mean, I figured he was the top notch expert in leak detection. What do I know, right? It started to rain, so he came back to finish up the day, as I remember.
When he was finished the next day, he presented me with the bill for the leak detection service, I asked him where the leak was. He responded gruffly, «There ain’t no leak! I think it might be the pool light, but it ain’t leaking now, so nothing I can do!!.» I asked him, well, why is my pool losing water? It’s going somewhere!” He quickly pulled a bucket out and set up a bucket test and muttered, «I’ll be back to check it tomorrow.» And without saying another word, he spun around on his heels, got in his truck and zoomed off.
I called his «office», and his wife called me back around 5PM or so, and I complained about Bill’s service and that they didn’t find the leak. To her credit, she knocked $ 75 off and gave me a 60 day warranty on the detection. That sounded fair. The next morning, he came back and checked the bucket. The level hadn’t dropped at all, which I was happy about. Apparently, the leak had sealed itself! He spun around and walked out to his truck and muttered, «I’ll let you keep the bucket» before he zoomed off. I’m guessing that he was right about his speculation about the leak being the pool light. Maybe him pulling it out and putting it back sealed the leak temporarily.
However, the leak came back a week ago. so I’m back to square one.
I think Bill at first put NO effort in doing a proper job… I mean, not wanting to dive into the pool to check the drain? That’s his job for crying out loud! When I called his «office» and started to complain and make some noise, he probably felt obligated to actually TRY to make a customer at least halfway happy. Perhaps hiring a proper full-​time secretary and investing in some customer relation training would be a good investment for his «business» if he wants it to survive… because if he treats ALL of his customers like this, it won’t for long.

I have great success using American Leak Detections.
My pool was losing 1 inch of water per day after the refill. Spend a few
hours in the water try to locate the leak using food color dye. No luck
and frustrated.
I call American Leak Detection in San Jose. They quote a flat rate
for detect and fixing up to 5 patches. Including fixtures in the pool like
skimmer and lights. I don’t know what cause the leak, but I know if the
leak was in the fixtures, I can’t fix it any way. Seem like a reasonable
offer.

Gear up with some high tech equipments, Bill locates 2 holes in my
pool liner. One of which I was able to use the low tech food dye
to confirm. Knowing exactly where should I put the food dye, it is
obvious the hole is drawing water. Very small hole to cause so
much trouble.
The other hole is even smaller, like a size of needle punch. I can
barely confirm it is drawing food dye. No way I can locate that myself,
not a chance.
Bill patch the two holes in no time. He even give me a good discount
because he did not need to do scuba diving in the pool. Very nice
person and fun to talk to.
I am very glad the pool now is fixed. I have been using it for over
a month and the water line is holding pretty well.
