Freedom Solar

Having spent a few months researching solar companies, I decided to have Freedom Solar install our system. When Mike Barar came to our house with his presentation, I was very impressed with his suggestions for a system that would meet our expectations.
Two days after signing the contract, they arrived for the first phase of the job by installing the solar rails and roof conduit. They took advantage of the first rain free day, and were here early.
After the next period of rain went away, they came back on the first dry day to install the solar panels and complete the electrical modifications needed. These guys are awesome! The project manager, Michael Copeland, and the installation crew did a fantastic job, and the conduit work required is a work of art. Henny, their friendly office manager, did a great job of handling the paperwork as well as keeping me informed throughout the whole process. Susan set up the Envoy Communication Gateway before bringing it to our house, and the installation of that was simple and quick as she is an expert on this device.
I am glad I chose Freedom Solar for our installation, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to any of my friends.

I’m pleased to add my two cents and five stars. These folks are awesome. I’d researched three top firms, including Freedom — making sure that all three had top notch reputations for installation quality. I chose Freedom because their careful design squeezed more production out of my roof, and also had very practical suggestions about what level of capacity to install. (It is easy to install the wrong amount of production.
Some firms will scrimp own a panel to make their price lower, others will try to upsell you more than would be advisable.) Freedom had a detailed discussion about the pro and con points of different levels of production. Then they came up with a design that provided excellent production for the price.
Their installation happened fast and other than my meter spinning more slowly, you really can’t tell the install happened at all. When the city electrical inspector came to check things out, he said «You picked well. These guys know what they are doing and everything here looks great.»

Having decided to install a central AC system, we figured it was a good time to convert to solar to offset the increased electrical demand. We contacted Rich at Freedom Solar and explained what we expected our current and future needs to be.
Rich was clearly knowledgeable about his subject and the options available. He designed a 10Kw system for us and also implemented a full electrical panel upgrade to handle the new equipment. His team took care of all PG&E interaction for the panel and worked with our other installer to coordinate specifications and installation for the new AC gear. The entire process ran smoothly and efficiently.
The Freedom Solar installation team was equally impressive and kept the site very clean during their time here. The City Inspector told me at sign-​off, that he was impressed with the work and that he considered it to be «of very high quality».
Now that the system has been running for a while, we’ve been able to track energy production and usage levels and are finding that we are very much in line with what Rich projected.

Freedom Solar gave me two choices, either a «best-​bang-​for-​the-​buck» SunEdison system at a great price or a «best-​of-​the-​best» SunPower system for maximum electricity. I decided to invest for the long term choosing SunPower and micro inverters to monitor every panel. They took care of everything. Rich is very friendly carefully explaining everything up front. Install team was fast and clean. Dale took care of the PG&E hassles and the online monitoring. Happiness is never having to worry about a massive PG&E bill again.

After evaluating a number of solar companies, I hired Freedom Solar based on my discussions with Rich, who was very knowledgeable, honest and the detailed analysis he provide us regarding our usage and what we would need. Our system was installed in Dec 2013 in a timely and efficient manner. After deploying they continued to monitor our solar power being generated and replaced components that were not reporting accurately. I can now say after 9 months of use that our systems produces power per pre-​sales analysis. We are extremely satisfied with Rich entire team and highly recommend Freedom Solar. I plan to use them again for another solar implementation.

We had Freedom solar upgrade an existing 10 year old 5KW system with a new Sunpower 8KW system. Our main goals were to increase production and cleanup the mess of equipment on the back wall of our house. We decided to replace our old system completely and install all new panels, racking and inverters. Freedom solar designed our new system so that we can add on 8 more panels and go all the way to 10.5KW. We oversized the inverter and prewired for the additional string of panels so that we can upgrade easily in the future just by adding more panels.
We had a few small issues with the installation but after speaking with the owner they are working on addressing all of our concerns. The new array looks amazing and is very sleek and cleanly mounted on the roof.

Mike Barar at Freedom Solar, does an awesome job of providing information, educating the potential client and has excellent follow up skills. Even though in the end I selected a different vendor, I wanted to recognize Mike for the great service and patience demonstrated to my many questions. To tell the truth, Mike’s involvement made my choosing very difficult. I wish Mike all the best.

Well, I didn’t end up with them as an installer but they were very knowledgeable and professional when they first visited me to do a consultation. Price was competitive but their customer service, warranty was not up to industry standards. I contacted them again to provide me with a few other alternatives but never heard back from them. Customer Service is one thing that consumers like other than having the best bang for the buck.

After installing a hot tub and sauna in my back yard, I jumped a tier in PG&E’s payment scheme and my electric bills almost doubled. That’s when I called Rich at Freedom Solar. Rich is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of Solar as well as all the ins and outs of how PG&E works. We discussed different options and decided on all black panels that blend in wonderfully on my all black roof.
The contract and installation process was painless. I didn’t have to be home for any of the installation. Rich walked me through everything ahead of time and the whole system was installed exactly how we had discussed. There was no damage to my roof or property and the workers were extremely clean. If I hadn’t seen the progress on the roof I would never have known they were there during the day. I also took the opportunity to install a new roof right before the solar installation and Rich coordinated all the details with the roofer. I didn’t need to get involved.
I can’t say enough good things about how all this went down. I highly recommend Freedom Solar and Rich Moore for your solar needs.

Wow, I am impressed, I was recommended to Freedom Solar through a roofing company. I had already talked to three other solar companies. I learned more talking to Rich in 5 minutes, than I did with the other three companies combined. He was patient, explained different scenarios, and while I haven’t purchased a system from them yet, I can definitely say that they provided amazing pre-​sales support.

rebuilding home and want solar
contacted 5 companies — one company did not send me bid and complained they don’t have enough info to work out a bid, even though I had send the same architectural drawings to all 5 companies, including compass readouts of home orientations.
The other 4 sent me bids. Freedom Solar was the 2^nd least expensive based on cost per watts (I figured both STC and CEC watts). So my selection is down to two — one I won’t name, and Freedom Solar.
Of the 4 companies, only Brian from Freedom Solar came to the construction site to perform on-​site survey and took actual solar exposure measurements from several spots on the south-​facing roof (roof is not even fully built yet — just the roof truss was in place).
Brian is the co-​owner of the company and is the technical guru. He is very personable and is patient and willing to spend the time to educate customers so as to help customers make the best choice in solar design and options.
I went through several cycles of Q&A, and each cycle I got new proposals from Brian based on my new requirements. In all I got more than 7, 8 proposals from which I finally narrowed down to the one that fits my needs and my budget the best.
After signing contract and paying a small deposit, I worked with Marina who coordinated all the logistics of system installation, inspection, etc, including coordinating with my general contractor the the electrician. Everything was well organized and arranged and project proceeded smoothly. System is now installed, although I won’t really be able to use it until my house is completely built, which won’t be for several more months.
I highly recommend this company and believe strongly you won’t go wrong with this company. You will get the impression that it is a well-​managed, solid company and run by employees who are honest, friendly, customer-​oriented and knowledgeable in what they do and sell.

Not enough positive comments can be provided about Freedom Solar and the system they provided to us. Our solar system was installed over a year ago and today we are enjoying approximately 13% better than projected output from the system. What made Freedom Solar so special is the representation from all of their very professional staff, from Rich Moore who is their VP of Sales, to Bryan Whitton who is their Chief Engineering Architect, to their back office staff led by Maria Garcia, and to their entire installation team. All through the steps of the install, we were always made aware of what to expect in the next step. Their communications with us either via email or telephone were first class and always on or ahead of schedule. We appreciated from day one that no one from Freedom was in any way too aggressive. They always followed through on time, with what they said they would do, even beyond what our contract terms specifically stated.
Our home for which we are the original owner, is over 40 years old and we had been plagued with the original service panel in the home from the very start. The concern was that this original service panel had a history in other homes of overheating and causing fires. In our contract with Freedom Solar we had specified the replacement of this panel at the time of the Solar System installation. This required a great deal of extra time to design and obtain approvals from the City of San Jose before and after the installation of the Solar System to be operational. Bryan had to spend an inordinate amount of extra time to insure that we were within code and work extra hard in getting all the necessary inspections accomplished to achieve the overall installation schedule.
I do not know of another Solar installer that would have been as prompt or ensuring that their customer was satisfied from all points of view. We did interview several other Solar System companies and it was always refreshing to work with Freedom Solar. So in summary solar panels are pretty much the same, with a few minor exceptions in their overall design and electric output. So what made the difference for us was the entire Freedom Solar’s very professional and courteous staff. We highly recommend Freedom Solar as a company that a home owner should meet with before any final decision is made with another solar company on this important investment for your home.

Freedom Solar helped me this spring when I had to have my photovoltaic panels removed and then reinstalled on to a new concrete tile roof. They fixed several issues with the photovoltaic system that the original installer neglected. They also worked in tandem with the roofer so the roof and tiles went in one after the other. In general they did what they said they would do and followed up on everything. I would definitely work with them again.
