I contacted Brian at Toms Transmission about my vehicle that had a transmission leak and the engine needed some TLC. It was difficult to find a transmission shop that knew what they were talking about since the transmission is not original to the car, but Brian Said it would not be a problem, and he was right. I was able to bring the car down later that day. He contacted me and let me know what repairs he recommended and we discussed what options I had and price. Just so you know Toms Transmission does more than just do transmission work. They also do auto repair and I would recommend them to anyone that wants things done right the first time and wants to support a local family owned business.

I started having overheating problems with my car so I brought it over to Tom’s Transmission for repair. After Brian had a day to look it over he said he could not find the source of the problem as everything checked out fine. He then went on to suggest I change the timing belt and water pump as he put it: «there’s nothing else in the cooling system left to fix».
I was not happy with this as it showed he had not identified the root cause of the problem and was now just playing the old game of «let’s change parts until we get lucky». The cost of going ahead was $ 700 and as unhappy as I was with Brian’s approach to problem solving, I gave him the green light.
After changing out those two parts, he finally hit on the real problem, a faulty fan switch that was working intermittently, which caused the overheating. Obviously there was more that could be at fault… His original diagnosis was dead wrong!
So, $ 832 later ($ 700 for irrelevant parts/​labor plus cost of replacing the faulty switch), I got my car back.
Needless to say, I will not be using this shop again. What Brian needs to understand is that it is HIS JOB to find the root cause of a problem before going on a part replacement expedition!

I brought another car, 1999 BMW to Tom’s transmission for repair work and the owner Brian (Tom is his Dad who started the business) got back to me with the diagnosis within 24 hours and the complete repair in 48 hours. When I went to pick up the car Brian put the car up on the lift and showed me what was repaired and what needs to be addressed for repair in the near future.
Brian enjoys tinkering with cars so this is his passion, and it shows.

Small shop, knowledgeble owner, who is does quality repair work on most vehicles, for a very reasonable price. Brian is very willing to look at all the options for repairing a vehicle, and ways to get the most value for your dollars. Highly recommended.

This is the place to go! When I called I spoke with Brian and explained what the car was doing. His immediate response was — that type of car is notorious for that — it should only need a flush. Leave it with me when you can and I’ll take care of it. It will be $ 185. The next day we took it in and left it. Brian said give him a few hours and he’ll call us when it’s done. WOW! He called three hours later to tell it us it was done. We picked it up — charges were as quoted. Clean shop, great service, actually CALLED US! They have been there a long time and I can see why. A family run shop that truly cares about people and is not into ripping people off! What a unique concept these days! I higly recommend them — they do lots of other stuff too. They are A #1 on our list now!
