The Capitola Hotel

Had the pleasure of staying at The Capitola Hotel with my husband and we had a fantastic time. My mother works across the street at Paradise Grille and had booked the room for us when we came into town to make it feel like a little getaway and did it ever deliver. The location could not be more perfect because once you get there, you park and don’t have to see your car again until you leave. The restaurants, bars, beach and wharf are all right there and there are many options. The room itself was nicely decorated, very clean and the bed was super comfortable (my husband is 6′ 4″ and I am pregnant and it was still very comfortable which is saying something). The staff was a pleasure to work with and very friendly. Thank you Capitola Hotel for giving us a nice little getaway, we would love to return someday soon! :)

Such a great spot! Enjoyed a fun weekend with 3 of my girlfriends by the sea. Stayed in the Grand Cayman right on the street and was not bothered by the noise on this busy weekend, and I am a very light sleeper. Can’t beat the price and the cute little courtyard. Comfortable beds, yummy coffee, excellent location and superb hospitality. Would definitely stay again!

This hotel is just adorable. My daughter, her dog and I stayed here for a weekend away. The staff is amazing and so helpful. A lot of Capitola is dog friendly so it is wonderful that this hotel now offers a room that allows dogs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again.

The Capitola Hotel downtown Capitola on the waterfront of the Monterey Bay is a most charming and very comfortable place to vacation. The Hotel Lobby is decorated for the holidays and we had the opportunity to meet the most charming gracious owner Corrie last night. Definitely, in every aspect, a «must stay» hotel for your next vacation with all the comforts of home and then some

Good rooms, great location, however total lack of services (we were waiting for a receptionist about 30 minutes after arrival) and terrible traffic and parking situations.

On a positive note the hotel is very cute & quaint, awesome location, very close to the beach, and right in the middle of everything, perfect for walking distance. They give you a free parking pass which is great cuz then you don’t pay for parking. The beds were also very comfy, room was really clean, the hotel was very clean as well staff was really friendly and pleasant.
The negative comments I would have is, room was on the small side, pics were deceiving in that. The AC unit started to leak water & it was loud which was inconvenient. There was also no mention of live music being played at the bar across the street and it was very loud until 11:30pm at night and if your someone who goes to bed early it makes it difficult to sleep.

Stayed here a year ago and it was so cute. Very clean, and cozy. Looking to book again soon, hopefully! Might be all booked for the days we want. :(

Nice little hotel. Clean rooms, clean bathroom and comfy bed. Close to the beach and places to eat. Try the Paradise Beach Grille across the street for dinner, can’t go wrong. Hotel management was very nice. Cute little courtyard where you can relax and have a cup of coffee or wine. Will stay there again next time in Capitola.

Loved our weekend here! Don’t want to leave… Stayed in the Grand Caymen Room… Private patio, mini kitchen, great ambience, and right on the Capitola strip (with no nighttime noise heard in our room which is amazing). Love Capitola and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Plans changed, and we thought we would stay in Capitola midweek. I called and secured the Jamaica room. It over looked street on the second floor. The rooms are small, but plenty of room to move around. They are very clean, updated colors, newly painted, comfortable queen bed & white linens. I liked the small window in the bathroom. Breakfast had good variety of muffins, coffee, teas, no juice, boiled eggs, no fresh fruit, oatmeal & yogurt. We had no problems with parking right across the street, with the hotel parking pass. This is a small, but very clean, & comfortable place too stay, and I’m glad we did.

We were a walk-​in client in the off season. They were gracious, extremely helpful and the place was nicely appointed. The only room available was the small one. It was indeed small but worked just fine for us. We don’t spend a lot of time in our room as we like to get out and see the area. The room and breakfast were well stocked and organized. We can see where it would be noisy when town was crowded. Ear plugs were provided. Though the music stops before 11pm. Can’t say enough about the service. It was top notch. And the location is perfect.

The Location was great and the staff was friendly… I was disappointed by the noise I only slept 3 hours this was a Sunday. Finally around 3:00 am all was quiet. so we were able to drift off not realizing that all that trash had to go somewhere. Sure enough, and a little before 6:00 am the garbage trucks came to collect the bottles and other trash. Another round of crashing and breaking glass.

I just want to start off saying that I am extremely saddened and disappointed by my latest experience. I decided to leave a review after I have received absolutely NO contact from the owner or manager regarding my experience (as the receptionist told me that someone would be contacting me to «make things right.»)
I have stayed at the Capitola Hotel many times in the past and my husband and I look forward to spending his birthday there every year. I booked our hotel room (Jamaica) two months in advance. As a birthday present to my husband, my mother-​in-​law called the Capitola Hotel and prepaid for our room. I also received a confirmation of my reservations the Wednesday prior to our stay.
When we got to the hotel and I told the receptionist that I was checking in, she seemed confused as she tried searching for the key card. She went up the room and came back down and asked me if I had already checked in. I told her «no» and she looked perplexed. She tried to make a couple of calls and after a time of looking at the computer system, she discovered that someone had put someone else in our room. She stated that a woman checked out on the Sunday and wanted to say another night so the person in the morning just put her in our prepaid reserved room. This place is usually fully booked at least a month in advance, so why would staff just assume that they could just accommodate this lady’s spur of the moment request.
The receptionist seemed sincerely apologetic and tried calling the other lady in our room (to no avail.) She then called other hotels and was able to find us a room at the Best Western, which they did pay for our room. The only problem is that we were staying at the Capitola Hotel because we had reservations at Paradise Beach Grille and my husband and I wanted to have a couple of drinks without having to worry about driving or calling a taxi. The receptionist told me that the charge to my mother-in-law’s card would be refunded and that I would be receiving a call from the manager or owner to make things right, which hasn’t happened yet.
The sad thing is that I have recommended this hotel to many friends and had reservations for Valentine’s Day weekend. I am canceling my reservations as I have not has assurances from management that this mistake will not happen again. — The McDonalds

Great location in Capitola village. Staff are very pleasant and clean rooms. however wether it’s the music played nightly across the street (VERY LOUD) or the noise guests and the garbage trucks at 6:00 am I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Great location! They depend on the location to take care of everything. The desk staff are not helpful and border on rude. Having no air conditioning on a warm summer day on the second floor is inexcusable. Having the cold and hot on the shower mixed up dangerous and a toilet you can’t sit straight on without hitting your knees is a bit ridiculous. Made a confirmed reservation for a queen bed and getting a double was disappointing too. Ambiance is almost there but when you are paying almost $ 300 for an 8X8 room with no air and you get scalded in the shower after sitting on the potty side saddle you are a bit disgruntled but coffee on the beach 100′ away did take a bit if the sting away.

We stayed here a year ago when we were obviously in the honeymoon phase of our relationship. I think that helped us overlook a few things that hit us right in the face this time.
The location is simply the best… This means they can get away with anything they want. They have a new policy that includes a two night minimum. That’s going to set you back over $ 500. Say a prayer you will be able to find a parking spot and do not leave once you find one.
The beds are sinking in and the pillows are flat. For the rate. You would think you’d get at least a comfortable bed. Here’s my favorite. We kind of have a beach system… We get breakfast, set up around 11ish to read and lay out, and then go back to our hotel around 3:30 for some downtime before dinner.
After being out all day all you want is a nice air conditioned hotel room right? It’s the hottest part of the day. Our room was boiling hot. The lady came in and basically told us to use the «vent» which pushed hot air around. We couldn’t really believe it. And she seriously looked at my husband and said «well you’re just gonna have to sweat it out.» Sweat it out?! Is this the gym or a vacation?
Do yourself a favor and hit up the Dream Inn or another little hotel in the area. That comment was just rude. And they are completely allowed to get away with it because it’s the best location in Capitola. If you like dropping over $ 500 for old beds, flat pillows, a ceiling fan and a vent. Have at it.

If you are looking for a super fancy, quiet hotel in Capitola this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a clean place to lay your head at night and shower that is literally right across the street from the beach, popular restaurants and bars such as Zelda’s, Paradise Grille, Fog Bank, and Margaritaville then you are set. At this point the flat screen TV on the wall, free wifi, and assortment of coffee, granola bars, packaged pastries, and friendly staff in the lobby are just a bonus. We stayed for a Friday and Saturday night weekend getaway and were in the Jamaica Room, which is overlooking that main strip of Esplanade and it’s restaurants and bars which do stay open until like 1:30am (Fog Bank with a band and Margaritaville with a DJ). That being said, if you are not one who is part of the partying going on across the street and prefer to turn in early you may be a little annoyed with the noise factor, though we did notice they provide you with a couple sets of ear plugs haha. 4 stars for us though because we knew what we were getting ourselves into and enjoyed every minute of it, along with the very short walks home across the street.

This last weekend the hubby and I booked the Paradise room at The Capitola for a night «away» (or over the 17). Here’s the rundown:
Pros:
Service: The nice older ladies that work the front desk are incredibly sweet, helpful, friendly, and knowledgable about the area.
Location: You can’t beat it. It’s in the heart of the Village, walking/​stumbling distance to all Capitola has to offer AND the beach!
Clean, comfy, and updated room: The room is definitely taken care of, as it has all of these must-​haves in a hotel room. The shape was a bit odd, but they made it work. They have a fridge, iron/​ironing board, and decent bathroom basic amenities.
Cons:
Parking: It doesn’t exist. They are kind enough to provide a parking pass which will allow you to park in any of the numbered spots. Suggest getting there EARLY to get good parking. You’ll have to double park, unload, grab the pass, and get to praying to the parking gods.
Nitpicky cons, but good to know:
Closet: Though there is a closet, there aren’t any hangars. At least, not in this room. I only cared because I had brought a nice outfit for dinner that night. I just draped it over the ironing board, and they do have an iron to help you out.
In-​room coffee: Doesn’t exist. You can go to the lobby for a «breakfast», which has a decent selection of Keurig coffee, yogurt, gas station pastries, muffins, etc. Hey, it’s free, so you can’t complain! But, for those of you that prefer coffee in-​room, before you have to face other humans, you’re SOL.
All in all, I definitely recommend this place for a nice getaway.

Ok here it is, we have stayed at the hotel 3 times, the first two times was just an awesome experience!!!
We stayed for New Years eve in 2012 very nice staff, clean rooms awesome place, perfect location we had a blast!!!
This year New Years eve 2013, nice at check in Susan is an amazing manager, being our wedding anniversary and having reservations at the Shadow brook, she made sure we had VIP treatment a cab ready it was perfect! she is awesome!!!
UNTIL the next day, a lady named Marie was cleaning rooms, we asked a question she was rude and snobby! we stayed in the Antigua the first two nights, and was told we could keep the parking pass as long as we needed for the day we checked out with no issues from Susan. Then we got a nasty call from the lady «Marie» stating bring back the pass NOW because the hotel was full that night and they needed it, and that she charged our card $ 75 !!! So we walked over and talked to Susan, the hotel was NOT booked, she refunded our money of course, and we actually stayed another night funny for being full!
Bottom line unless they get rid of that nasty lady we wont be back anytime soon! On the other hand we just adore Susan she was awesome!!!
I am sad because even as noisy as it can be we just love the place, but that’s the way it goes poor service you dont get my business. So Capitola hotel listen up get more people like Susan and we and many other will be back!

After the previous weekends 100 degree weather, we wanted to get out of town and head to the beach so we booked here on pretty short notice. Stayed the weekend with my wife and 2 young children (2 &6) in the Grand Cayman room. The hotel is on the main strip of Capitola, right across from all of the bars and restaurants. It is a great location for spending all day at the beach — you don’t have to trek very far, parking is a snap, you have somewhere to retire to for naps and you can have meals on your own patio that has table & chairs. Also, a microwave and fridge is in the room as well.
The pros– great location, clean, friendly staff, and the kitchenette make it a perfect little family room.
The cons– it is pricey and the noise at 2AM when the bars close is loud.
I would definitely stay here again. I think if I planned a little farther ahead of time, I might try to stay in one of the condo’s along the beach, but from what I can tell they are pretty booked up.
