Located in Captain Cook on Hawai’i Island, aka the «Big Island», the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden is a 15-acre botanical garden focused on Hawaiian ethnobotany, the study of Hawaiian people and their plants.
Named for kama’āina botanist Amy Greenwell and featuring more than 200 plant species, the Garden is the preeminent destination on Hawai’i Island to learn about Hawaiian plants.
Open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. — 4 p.m., the Garden offers daily guided walking tours at 1 p.m. and hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year.
History
Established in 1974.
Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden is part of Bishop Museum, which was founded in 1889. The Garden has been open to the public since 1988.
