Kaiser Permanente Carlsbad Medical Offices

Wentt in with no appointment, was seen within 15 mins, staff was great. The Phelbomist, Gabreila was wonderful and very friendly. I highly recommend going to her if you have an option to choose :)

So far the smartest Dr. there is Tommy Duc Le. I use
a lot to contact my docs. They are experimenting with no-​charge phone appointments; hope they can prescribe this way as it could be a life saver.

Love this place. The doctor that was assigned to my son was amazing. He took the time to show us around and explain all the parts of the exam.
Then we went to the eye clinic and the eye doctor and staff were awesome too.
Can’t recommend this place more!

Excellent location. This is an open-​air, 2-​story, small compound with center atrium. Staff here is always friendly. I’m always seen promptly and on-​time. The nurses, doctors, lab techs, receptionists have always been super kind and top-​notch. My only two suggestions would be the signage on where to go can be a bit confusing. For instance, the regular check-​in for normal appointments doesn’t have a super-​clear marking… more hidden along with other building uses. So, it may be confusing for first-​time visitors. Also, the entire facility, though it is in an unbeatable location, could certainly use some renovation. It is certainly not a modern, high-​tech looking building like the new Oceanside location or San Marcos.

KP IS SO BAD I DROPPED COVERAGE after just two office visits. Yes, I know that I cannot sign up for new insurance until December. This insurance was WORSE THAN USELESS.
On the positive side, parking was convenient and the support staff was mostly excellent. Wait times were very minimal. None of that matters, however, if you don’t get the service you need to get well.
Some examples of how pathetic they are:
First visit: The nurse brought me a simple knee brace to which I said «I already have plenty of those» and she replied «Well we’re not letting you walk out of here without one». I could walk just fine, btw. «How much is that going to cost me?» I asked. It was a $ 29.99 rubber brace at retail, tops, and it probably only cost them $ 3. «It won’t cost you a thing» she replied. Imagine my surprise when I was billed $ 275 for a «KO Elastic with Joints» and insurance covered exactly $ 0 of it. To add insult to injury, those sneaky bastards applied my office CoPay to the brace and said I still owed for the office visit. Btw, the «KO Elastic with Joints» did not even have any joints. I have been disputing the bill for months without resolution. (Update: Six months later, after sending certified mailings, they claimed to have removed the charge. Months later they billed me again, this time claiming that I had never paid a $ 167 bill. From what I can tell they simply applied a previous payment to the knee brace and then re-​billed me for the other charge).
Second visit, two weeks later: I was suffering from raging tinnitus and a terrible ear ache that I likely got on my first office visit when the doctor looked into my ear with a device without changing the tip. He changed the tip AFTER looking at my ear and hung the device back on the wall with the clean tip. Anyway, I contacted KP to make an appointment with an ear (or ear nose and throat) specialist but they said I had to have a referral from my PCP.
So I made an appointment with my PCP for the next day, but he did not make a diagnosis and no meds were prescribed. wtf?!? So I told my PCP that I wanted to see a specialist but he said «I don’t give referrals to ear specialists, that’s not how we work. You need to see an audiologist and they will refer you if necessary.» I said «Ok, can I please get a referral to the audiologist then?» To which he replied «Actually, you just make an appointment with them directly and they can see you the same day». So I called the audiologist and they said «We don’t do things that way anymore. You need a referral to make an appointment with us.» I told them about the run-​around I was getting and she said she would book it for me without a referral, first opening: 5 weeks later! I said I couldn’t wait five weeks to see an audiologist to get a referral to see an ear specialist for an ear infection that I was having today and she said «We don’t refer people to ear doctors anyway. We just test your hearing». I dropped KP the same day. The infection, btw, became incredibly painful and spread to both ears. I ended up in urgent care. I was immediately put on the strongest antibiotics of my life.
These are just two of four different bad experiences I had in just two office visits over the course of two weeks. KP has an excellent reputation but I am not sure why. This insurance was worse than useless for me! I have since become a happy patient of Molina Health Care.

I love Kaiser and everyone that I have come into contact so far has been very caring and helpful. You can really tell the difference when people love their jobs. I came into the Carlsbad just minutes before they closed to pick up my last minute prescription on a Friday night and nobody acted like getting out the door was more important than me and my knowledge of the drug. The man that helped also went further and asked if I was aware of many of the different programs they had I said no and he was completely there in the moment and ready to explain. Thats what I call customer service.

I have only had Kaiser for a few months but it has been nothing but work and poor service. I’ll start with my trip to the urgent care. I had been six for 8 weeks and other friends who had the same thing told me that they were treated with prednisone. When I mentioned this to the doctor she was annoyed saying that it «never works» but that she would give it to me. She told me that she doesn’t ever prescribe it, so she asked me to give her the dosage that I wanted. I told her that I don’t know the dosages. She said «well I can’t give it to you unless you tell me what to give!». Shocked! I asked her to call the pharmacy for an appropriate dose. She did what I said but I was more than concerned about this doctor. PS of the 4 Rxs she gave me, I only took the prednisone (didn’t even take the antibiotic, following how my friends had been treated). IT WORKED!
Next my PCP told me that my blood pressure medication (a common generic) was not covered. Again, this doctor asked me what medication she should give me. AAAAhhhhhh! We went round and round but she finally did the prescribing.
Next, I need an orthotic insert made specially for a nerve issue in my foot. My PCP won’t give me the referral without seeing her. I explained that I’ve had this nerve issue for 20 years and my orthotics are too old, I just need new ones made. Family doctors don’t mold and make orthotics! Nope, she wants to waste my time and money with an appointment.
Medication, so far I have taken all my medications and paid cash at Costco because it has been cheaper than using Kaiser insurance. So far, Kaiser has been actually more expensive, lower quality care and completely inconvenient.
I have 3 kids. I have been less than impressed with the pediatric care. Small example, my son got strep and the doctor told me to go home and throw out his tooth brush. I said you mean in 24 – 48 hours throw out the toothbrush. He said «No, do it right away.» Research has shown that switching the toothbrush right away leads to reinfection. They now want you to wait so that the medicine is working when you switch the toothbrush. That standard of care is a few years old. They are not on top of it. So far I am fearful that my children might actually need real care while we have Kaiser. Switching as soon as we can!

This review is for Kaiser Vision Essential located in the Kaiser Carlsbad Medical Offices: The experience was the worst I’ve ever had. The store manager was inept in supervising his employees, one of whom was unable to place an internet order and another who ordered broken lenses. What a total joke. Files a complaint with Kaiser. Be sure not to visit this location!

Nurse station before seeing doctor was small and not super private (one room divided by a half divider for two stations)
Doctors area was a little small but I guess that is to be expected
I got taken care of and had all my questions answered as well as they helped me set up an appointment with neurology before I left the building
Lovedddd my doctor and nurse, they both were so sweet and personable.
Good communication and I felt listened to and taken care of

Doctors and nurses are all great. And I use the pharmacy often. It gets busy at times but once you learn when to come and when not too, you’ll find you can get in and out in minutes.
*TIP: outside on the walls are anti-​bacterial soap dispensers. It’s a wise-​choice to squirt a bit on your hands when leaving the offices ;)

This lab has improved a great deal. It appears they have some new staff members who have been helpful and polite.

Very nice staff that greets you with a pleasant smile. Easy facility to get around in. Doctor, lab, and pharmacy all in 1 spot.

My wife suffered for 30 days with a 15 mm kidney stone. Kaiser charged me over 1000 $ in co pays and made her wait 30 days after the diagnosis to treat her. Please take heed to what I am saying. My wife almost had a nervous breakdown do to the month of pain. We had a friend have the same situation at another hospital system and total time from diagnosis to repair was 3 days

I am so happy! I hate doctor visits and ever since I got my kaiser insurance I just haven’t used it. But I’m glad I did! I had some crazy rash that I had to get to the bottom of and made an appointment by phone– well, my doctor wasn’t available some they sent me here same day! And within about an hour or two of me calling!
I get in and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly and my doctor knew exactly what she was talking about. So much that I’m cured now ;-) that’s always a bonus!
Way better than scripps I say!

gotta come correct — after slamming KAISER’s OUTPATIENT MEDICAL CENTER in SAN MARCOS, i have to admit i could not have had a better experience at KAISER’s CARLSBAD MEDICAL OFFICES.
KAREN, who checked me in at the front desk (actually upstairs at pediatrics since i wandered into the wrong office), could not have been nicer or more helpful.
TRISHA, the good doctor’s nurse-physician’s assistant, was engaging and funny and even the tetanus booster i got was damn near pain free.
DR. LOZAR was thorough, patient, professional and i cannot say enough nice things about him or my experience there.
bit of a wait for the blood draw at the lab but even the very nice lady that damn near bled me dry was also super.
through all my trepidation and misgivings, i gotta say the entire staff did an outstanding job.

I have been a member of KP for 28 years. I was born 28 years ago at the Zion facility. I have always been pleased with KP, specifically this location. All doctors and staff have always been friendly and warm. Appointments are typically on the but there’s always the exception :).
The pharmacy is usually quick with friendly staff. I highly recommend Kaiser Carlsbad to anyone.

Once in a «blue moon» I need GROWN UP DRUGS to beat a tough cold — and KP in Carlsbad has the cure! It’s a real convenient location off I-​5 Poinsettia (just West of freeway). Yup — make an appointment = seeing your doctor, getting your diagnosis and meds @ the pharmacy all within about 1 hour.
Not too shabby!
To save you TIME and more importantly EFFORT (something in short supply when feeling down) they even have over the counter medications, cough drops, vitamins, and even toothbrushes available for sale @ pharmacy/​store.
BTW — nothing made me happier than getting rid of OLD toothbrush used while SICK and GERMYTOWN — Viking funeral style!

I really like this location.
I came here for a consult on a new type of medication that was being offered to replace my old one. The parking situation wasn’t terrible, other than the gaggle of cars waiting for the front row spots. I honestly think they should just make the whole front area handicap. I hate seeing a person in a walker having to walk from the far parking lot.
The pharmacy here is crowded, always, and forever. I just think that people call in their prescriptions and come pick them up here. It went fast, but it was still crowded.
I wish I could do more things at this location, as it is a decent set of offices with some moderately good receptionists.

I was in desperate need for new glasses so I called to make an appointment. They were booked about 3 weeks out, so I patiently waited for the fateful day to come, all the while using very old specs that barely helped the situation. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE WHEN SCHEDULING!
Here are the Hours:

Not wanting to miss any work for the visit, I scheduled my appointment for a Wednesday at 6:30. I took the stairs (felt pretty lazy waiting for an elevator as I watched someone in a wheelchair roll by) and checked in early (around 5:45) in hopes that they could take me early. It was MY LUCKY DAY! The receptionist was really friendly, sweet, and according to my BF had «beautiful brown eyes». Can’t take him anywhere, he is such a FLIRT! He disagreed with me but his face turned pretty red!
The check up went as I expected; Air blown in each eye, managed to make out some of the letters on the wall other than the big «E», and got my prescription. I left, thinking that their frames were pricey (I never shop for this stuff) @ around $ 150, but after talking to my mom I booked it back over to try on frames.
A cool lady helped be pick out some Ray Ban frames so that I can still hang with the cool kids, and made me & my BF laugh along the way.
Still waiting for my glasses to come in (it takes approx. 2 weeks to get them in). In the mean time, I’m «really enjoying» the frames I have taped together!
