La Quinta Inn & Suites San Diego Carlsbad

My husband and I took a quick overnight getaway. The room was nice, staff was friendly. The continental breakfast was mediocre but most are. Eggs extremely salty. The ice machine was not working. These things did not take away from an overall great experience.

We got the family suite for 3 nights. This is a two room suite one room with bunk beds. The price was great at under $ 100 a night. The room had a king bed, and a set of bunk beds. 2 full bathrooms, 2 fridges, 2 microwaves. Pool was heated and the area was clean. Customer service was absolutely amazing. Breakfast that is provided was great especially with two little ones. If I had two think of anything negative it would be that although there is a table and chairs for the kids there is only one desk and chair for adults so its hard to eat with a full family. The reason there is one star off is that the carpet was dirty and sticky. After walking barefoot in the hotel and getting in shower your feet are black and leave black foot prints in shower. But again for the price and location absolutely amazing. And I can not emphasize the customer service, I believe her name was Amanda, shes awesome. This will be our spot now that we have lego land passes for the kiddos and we live 2 hrs away.

You’re better off just spending more money and going to a different hotel. It is right by the freeway and you can hear cars all night long. The shower is absolutely horrible. The whole time I was in it there was this squeaky loud noise, and there was no hot water. Customer service was meh. Nothing to brag about.

For the money, is worth being so close to Legoland and within walking distance to a variety of places to eat. You can hear traffic and the beds are not super comfortable, but it is a very reasonable price! Joy breakfast included sausage and eggs as well as waffles and bagels.

Conveniently close to Legoland. It’s about a 7 minute drive away. Awesome free breakfast that included sausage, scrambled eggs, and make your own fresh waffles! Lots of seats in the breakfast room. Lots of Free parking. Although the exterior looks old, there is clean and modern furniture. So I guess this place was gutted and remodeled. This place is super easy to find and accurate on Google Maps. The service was quick and friendly. Down the street there is a shopping center with restaurants, shops, grocery store and even a gas station if you need. Overall, a value hotel with an updated, contemporary feel. I would totally stay here again! Awesome deal!

I was doing a hotel comparison in the area, when i revisited the La Quinta Hotel in Carlsbad, and when i went to see their breakfast set up 2 maids approached me and asked if I stay at the hotel and when i replied «No», she proceeded to say «Well you don’t belong here, so therefore breakfast is for guest only!» I wasn’t aware they were using maids now as their security. What she failed to know was that I was already staying at the Ramada Inn and i was looking to move hotel because their accommodation here is no better. Frankly, I would never stay at their hotel ever again even if they gave it to me for free! They just lost me as a Gold Member! Infact I plan to advise the CEO of the Chain via email of this experience as well.
When i contacted the hotel and spoke to the front desk manager she replied we the maids are really protective over this hotel and so that is why they could have done that! I proceeded to tell her that both my parents were in the hotel industry and they don’t recall ever having to do the duties of others, if they see anything out of the norm then they would report it to their management or security. I told her that her answer was unacceptable, because i still felt insulted. So, therefore I came to a final conclusion to stay at a Hotel Chain (Extended Stay) that knows how to treat their guests and not be profiled as as a transients.

We chose this hotel due to its close proximity to Legoland and the beach. This hotel sits directly adjacent to the freeway, so the freeway noise is a bit loud, especially since we were in room 311 (third floor, at the very rear of the building… closest to the freeway). Luckily, once the door is shut and the AC unit is turned on, you can’t hear too much. We opted for a drive to the beach as it seemed a bit far for the little one to walk without complaining or having to be carried on the way back.
The water pressure in the room was horrible, and the water took about 5 minutes to heat up. One adult took a cold shower in the morning. The water eventually started turning luke warm towards the end, and stayed warm long enough for my daughter to get a quick shower in as well. A shower at night proved a bit more successful with the hot water situation, however the water pressure was dismal throughout our entire stay.
The deluxe continental breakfast was fantastic and saved us a great deal from having to grab breakfast elsewhere. Tons of variety with a waffle bar (3 waffle iron stations) for make it your self waffles (these were a hit with the youngin’), scrambled eggs, sausage, mini muffins, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, various cereals, bagels, and other pastries, juices, coffee.
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Though we don’t plan to ever go to Legoland again, if we ever came back to Carlsbad, we would stay here again.

Probably the worst place I’ve ever had to stay the night.
The staff is nice enough, and the beach is fairly close, a mile or so away. But I would honestly spend a little more money just to go somewhere nicer than this dump– in fact, that’s what we’re doing tonight.
The place itself used to be a motel, and you can tell. The beds are awfully uncomfortable, so much so that if you don’t want back problems, just sleep on the floor. The elevator is the sketchiest thing you’ve ever seen in your life, it creaks and groans and it barely opens or closes. The air conditioner leaked it’s coolant all over our floor right next to the bed, and it was so so loud. Not as loud as the highway right outside the window though, when the air conditioning wasn’t on during the night, it got so loud. The breakfast in the morning was barely salvageable. If you like powdered eggs, mystery meat sausages and week old milk in your stale cereal, this is the place for you! The shower head in our room was bigger than most chain hotels, it’s the wide head rather than the slim head that gives water like a hose, but there was no hot water.
I would go to the nicer Hilton down towards the beach, only $ 100 more a night, and it is well well worth it.

My boyfriend and I got a room here because we had an event to attend in Carlsbad. We found the hotel on a third party site for a decent price so we decided to give it a try. Sadly, it’s been an awful experience…
First, as I’m getting ready (hair and makeup) the power goes out! 10, 20, 30 minutes later… Still nothing! I had to call the front desk 3 times just to get an answer on what was going on… Needless to say we were late to the event. I had to do my make up in my car and put my half curled hair up in an awkward pony tail.
Second, the air conditioning is ancient and loud as all H E double hockey sticks! It’s unbearable to be in the room without it and impossible to sleep with it on… I might as write a Unilocal review since I’m not getting any sleep tonight! I uploaded a video for you all to see/​HEAR.
I WILL be asking to speak with the manager upon checkout to see if he/​she can rectify the situation and will update my review as well.
Spend the extra money and stay at a neighboring hotel!

I just checked in for a last minute getaway to Legoland with my 2 year old. I was drawn to this place by its relatively low price of $ 89/​night on a non-​holiday weekday, its close proximity to the park, its 4* rating on a popular site for travel related reviews, and the photos online that displayed a somewhat modern interior and recently renovated rooms. These facts still remained true, so if your requirements align with La Quinta’s on your specific travel dates the way they did mine, this isn’t the worst place to stay at. Still, it’s a good idea to lower your expectations some.
I travel relatively frequently (at least 30 nights/​year) & often last minute so I’ve stayed at many other 2.5−3* chain hotels in a similar class like the Hampton Inns, Fairfields, Hyatt Places, Springhills, etc so I figured La Quinta would be similar.
This review might be a bit premature since I haven’t experienced/​toured all of the different amenities offered by this place, but I’ve only been in my room less than an hour and already I’m (literally) ITCHING to leave. (I’ll get to this in a bit.)
There is a musty smell upon entering the small room that they’ve managed to equip with a king bed and a sofabed, and there seems to be no soundproofing since the sounds of the highway at 1am were loud enough to wake my toddler. Fortunately, we discovered minutes later that their ancient air conditioner is even louder. (White noise, yay.) There is also a strong smell of liquor (possibly whiskey) coming from the closet.
Also, it might be the harsh chemicals in the detergent they use on the rough (probably low thread count) sheets, but I’ve already developed lots of small red bumps on the areas of my body that are exposed and have come into contact with these sheets. Since I haven’t seen any bugs, so far that isn’t one of my top 3 theories.
So far, I’m reaaaaally glad I’m only here for 1.5 nights.

My first day here. I looked over to the second mattress in the room and there’s blood at the bottom of the second mattress. This is really disappointing. The room looked cleaned, or as clean as a room can look. It’s disgusting seeing blood at the bottom of a mattress next to my bed.

Awesome suites and well worth it after a day from Legoland. The kids got there own room with bunk beds while we got ours away from them and has 2 bathrooms which is even better. I recommend this place for anyone that plans on going to Legoland.

Right off the freeway, close to the beach and Legoland. The pool was kinda small and always crowded but nice hotel.

Place is convenient. Clean and affordable when you consider what around.

What a deal! Booked this place last minute and came to a beautiful 2 bedroom spacious. Free parking. No resort fee. Free breakfast. Fresh make your own waffles! (Don’t worry it’s easy)

Anytime we book a King bed and we are given a Queen I can’t really give a great review. I love staying at La Quinta. It’s my first choice almost always. Clean and comfortable! We were going to stay a second night but they were going to hike the price up on us $ 40. We decided if we were going to pay those prices we might as well stay at the Hilton. Haha– and the next night, we did! Got a great deal of course but it’s a true story. Don’t get me wrong, great location, nice stay. But if we book a king, don’t give us a Queen and think you’re making up for it by giving us the family suite with an adjoining room with bunk beds. We don’t have kids!

I stayed here this last weekend. I have stayed at numerous La Quinta’s all over the west and most are generally better than this one. This one appears to be tired and a bit run down. The room was supposed to be non-​smoking, but it had a faint odor of cigerettes. Nothing was really bad that stood out as saying don’t stay here, but nothing really good either.
I did, however, get a good night’s sleep (once the amorous neighbors stopped at 2am).

Not a bad hotel for 1 or 2 nights, but lacking for longer stays.
1. The freeway noise is loud. We stayed in the south building facing north. Maybe a south facing room would have been quieter.
2. The bathroom was musty. This may have been from the ventilation fan, but there was no way to turn on the lights without turning on the fan.
3. The automatic light switches were difficult to operate. The light sensors were also caved in, so we weren’t the only ones to have problems with these. I believe in saving energy, but not when it leaves a guest fumbling.
4. The internet is slow, slow, slow. There is no excuse for this. I wasn’t trying to watch video — just a simple webpage load would take 20 – 30 seconds.
5. The room floor was slightly sunken near the rear bathroom.
Otherwise, the breakfast was solid and the staff was courteous. Parking was also good.

After staying here for a week here’s what I think:
–Room–
Musty smell and two earwigs in the bed did detract a bit but it is a decent room. The bed had 5 small pillows but I would’ve preferred 1 standard. TV and small fridge worked. The art on the wall was local photography and was nice. WiFi is incredibly slow.
–Bathroom–
Small but functional. Cool shower curtain bend that made it seem bigger.
–Breakfast–
Same options every day. If you love waffles you’re in luck. I thought the food was sketch and not so fresh wen it came to the fruit and hard boiled eggs. Poor quality overall and got old really fast.
–Parking–
Never had to search for a spot. Super nice and secure. Never worried about my car.
–Location–
Couldn’t be better. Just a few miles away from anything you could be in Carlsbad for. Right next to I-​5 so you could get to San Diego quickly.
