Ocean Palms Beach Resort

This place was totally cute and hospitable and located perfectly to everything in town! Adorable landscaping and nice pool and spa mixed with the ocean across the street made this resort a real treat! We loved our beds! We loved the kitchen in our room and used it each day to cook the leftovers from dinner for breakfast! The staff is super friendly and helpful, and truly every single thing you can imagine is within walking distance to this resort. I had a broken toe while here and no car, which meant walking or Über everywhere and we were delighted with such a wide selection of shopping and dining within a stones throw of us, it was a small gift for sure to land on such a great place to stay with willing staff.
They do need to invest in better Wifi, as its spotty as all can be, and makes for poor web searches on dining options and in room Pandora. To be fair there is an iPad for use in the reception area that prob would work fine if you were in a pinch.
The décor here is wonderful for having you feel like you are in a tropical paradise and we enjoyed that!

This hotel is terrible. I was in a downstairs rooms and I could hear every single thing the people above me were doing. I could literally hear them talking, opening drawers, and their footsteps sounded like thunder. Also, my key never worked for my room so I was constantly locked out. This hotel is crap.

The location of this hotel is perfect. steps away from the beach and walking distance to the Carlsbad Village. Great place for a weekend getaway. The rooms come with a fully stocked kitchen, living room area and separated room. I liked the beach décor and comfy king sized bed. The room was clean, linens and towels are nice. Our room came with a cute patio with a table, which would be great to have breakfast while listening to the ocean. The only cons were that there was no hair dryer or bathtub. Overall, a great place to stay in Carlsbad!

Terrible service at this establishment. Stayed here with my sister and her son, decided to go down to the pool. The housekeepers did not believe that we were hotel guests, even after stating our room number and name. The housekeeper told us they would call the police on us in front of my sisters 3 year old son. After 4 housekeepers came up to us we decided to get out of the pool and talk to the manager. The manager was terribly rude and had nothing to say about what happened. The hotel itself is set on beautiful property and right next to the beach. Will definitely be back to beautiful Carlsbad but never Ocean Palms.

I love this place. It is a small boutique resort and everything about it is excellent without having to pay the ridiculous rates and resort fee. The staff is phenomenal, the location is the best (across from beach and walking distance to Carlsbad village) and the rooms and grounds are absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to come back!

We recently hosted a cousins’ reunion in Carlsbad and chose Ocean Palms as the home base for the out-​of-​towners after viewing several downtown properties. Everyone was thrilled with the location, the ambiance, the cleanliness, and the friendliness of the staff, and they were more than helpful to me as I made the arrangements. Definitely not a cookie cutter hotel, it has a charm and style all it’s own. Thanks for making us look good, guys!

The Ocean Palms Resort is Carlsbad/​San Diego’s best kept secret. I was planning a weekend getaway for my boyfriend and I and was looking for a hotel that was close to the beach with a room with an ocean view and a kitchenette. I searched online for weeks and was not pleased with the results. Most exceeded my price range and didn’t look to be all that great judging from the photos and online reviews. Then one day I stumbled upon the Ocean Palms Resort.
The resort had everything I was looking for and more! And the price was right and well worth it. I booked the Luxury Ocean View Suite with a King bed and sofa/​sitting area and was guaranteed that particular room at the time of booking. We stayed for 3 nights from 1÷30÷16 — 2÷2÷16. We arrived early on Saturday and was able to check in at 3:00pm. The staff was very welcoming and super friendly. The room looked even better than the photos online and the resort is literally steps from the beach.
The kitchen was amazing. It was FULLY equipped with stainless steel appliances and a nice dining room table. I cooked an awesome pancake breakfast one morning and chicken and shrimp scampi one evening. There is a Neighborhood Walmart just a few miles away for your shopping needs. The kitchen also had a microwave that came in handy for our popcorn, Netflix and chill night.
The hotel is situated at the corner and very close to the street. So I was able to hear/​see people passing by. That was not a problem though. It was nice to see the locals and tourists enjoy the weather and scenery.
The one and only downside for me is our room had a shower only and no tub. I love taking long hot baths. However, that was a small sacrifice for all the other awesome amenities.
I highly recommend this resort/​hotel and I will definitely stay here again!

Stayed here last night. This place is so cute! Super nice rooms, awesome location. A block from good restaurants, less than a block from the water. The cons, no towels at pool area, paper thin walls, heard the gate slam I swear 400 times. Heard my neighbors party all night. The window on the door! Needs blinds! I felt like that deck light was shining right in my room. I paid $ 275 and slept like an hour.

I can’t say enough good things about Ocean Palms Beach Resort. This place has it all– comfy rooms, perfect kitchenette, spacious showers, CLEAN, great pool and most importantly, phenomenal staff. The location is perfect, right across the street from the beach and walking distance from fun bars and restaurants in Carlsbad Village. They have boogie boards, beach chairs, surfboards, towels and much more that you can check out at the front desk for free! And, there is ample parking at the resort. Beach access right across the street to a spacious and clean public beach. Beds are SUPER comfy and sheets were immaculately clean. Amazing hospitality from a great team at Ocean Palms! Do your self a favor and check this place out!

My wife surprise me with a fast getaway. as we arrived at the ocean palms it was absolutely fantastic fresh baked cookies beautiful rooms with hand painted murals. Sitting right in the heart of Carlsbad it’s right next to every amenity you could ever want steps from the sands and surf and secret little fire pit to sit around and enjoy your evening this place is great. This was the 5^th year my wife and kids and I have stayed here! It is amazing, and my kids cheer every time we pull up… You need to know that this is an amazing place, but it’s a beach hotel. So don’t show up expecting the Four Seasons and you won’t be one of these clowns leaving bad reviews!
The rooms are great, the staff is amazing and the location can’t be beat! But if you need ²⁴⁄₇ consistent wifi, stay elsewhere… This place is about chilling!
My experience is that the people who bitch paid for the cheapest room and demand more than what they paid for. You want nice? Book the Tahitian Suite. That’s the 2 bedroom that we book that has a private hot tub and front yard. Want cheap? Book a studio. Either way, grab a beer and relax. Carlsbad isn’t for complaining!

My boyfriend and I loved this place! Our room was clean and included a fully equipped kitchen with necessities. The staff was very friendly and informative. We loved how everything was pretty much walking distance like restaurants, shops, and the beach! Complimentary beach towels and beach chairs in the front lobby. My boyfriend and I were very pleased with the Ocean Palms Beach Resort and can’t wait to go back and enjoy another getaway!

I can’t say enough great things about the Ocean Palms Beach Resort. I live here in Carlsbad and have stayed at the ocean palms a handful of times over the years for little mini-​family getaways. Whether you are staying for a night or for two weeks it suits all of your needs. The rooms are large and comfortable with all the amenities that you could ever use. The entire property feels like you are in Maui. Between the pool and the fire pits there is more than enough space to spend quality time with whoever you are with. The location is pretty much unbeatable also. A two minute walk to great restaurants and boutique stores (a stones throw from the beach is fantastic too). When I have family and friends in town I always have them stay at the Ocean Palms and will continue to for many years to come. I can’t wait to take my family down again soon for another getaway!!!

My husband and I rested comfortable. Our studio sized room was perfect except there wasn’t a closet. Room was clean with all the necessitates like a fully equipped kitchen. Beach right across the street. We loved it.

When I first pulled up, I was surprised to see how pretty this place was. As I entered the lobby, even better, Starbucks coffee dispenser was greeting me. The host, sadly, I did not catch his name, was very friendly and courteous. There’s an outdoor area with multiple fire pits, which are very nicely laid out. There’s even a pool, which caught me by surprise. And there are bbq stations around the vicinity, which are accessible to guests.
I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. It was quaint, has a full kitchen and some utensils to use. The rooms are air conditioned which is nice. The rooms remind me a little of Mexico, like the nicer hotels. There are even handmade paintings in each room, which are so pretty, cannot stop looking at them. So this place is a really nice getaway, 1 minute off of the beach. Walking distance to anywhere really. It’s in a perfect spot and you can do so many different activities in the area. There are many restaurants, bars, and shopping centers that are all walking distance.
This place is worth a weekend getaway and is fairly priced based off where it is. I would recommend coming here before summer really kicks in and these places book up, especially when we live in a place where it is always sunny.

This place was awesome. We live in San Diego so we went here for a long weekend. The room was amazing. So clean and new. The fire pits were awesome. They allow dogs. The rooms have full kitchens. The ocean is literally across the street. And there’s so many restaurants within walking distance. We’re coming back in a few weeks we liked it so much. Prices are affordable too!

Our family of four (children 7 and 10) are thankful for how awesome our stay turned out to be. We were lucky to have the stay two nights, 3^rd night free deal. It would’ve been out of my budget otherwise. The staff was welcoming, attentive and friendly. Honestly, I’m really surprised at the reviews.
We stayed in the Kona suite, a perfect size for us. The room was updated and immaculate. The one minus was that the beds weren’t that comfortable. The pool and hot tub area were near our suite. We enjoyed the plush tropical atmosphere.
We were glad to know that we could check out beach chairs and boogie boards from the front desk, so we took advantage of that.
We loved just walking across the street to the beach and then walking only minutes to go to delicious restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream shops!
We would definitely stay here again.

My husband, our dog, and I stayed here for one night for a weekend getaway, and we loved it! The hotel is a little bit quirky and has a lot of character. The room was spotless with a luxurious jacuzzi and a shower with 3 shower heads (!) and we loved that we could open the top half of the door for the perfect combination of an open-​aired room and privacy.
Pros: Hotel is in a great location that is a short walking distance from restaurants, shops, and the beach (dogs are not allowed on the beaches here though). The front desk staff is very friendly and let us check in a few hours early. There’s free coffee, donuts, and fruit on the weekends. Cute hotel grounds with lots of greenery and fire pits at night (instead of boring carpeted hallways with rows of doors on both sides). Free parking.
Cons: Slightly expensive, but worth it for the non-​corporate hotel feel.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE. In fact, I wrote this review in ¹⁰⁄₂₀₁₂ and we PLAN trips to Carlsbad just to stay here…
OK, let’s get the CONS out of the way first.
1. Wi-​Fi. Worked fine in the morning, but not at all past 6pm. If you have important business or that porn just cannot wait, I suggest going wired.
2. The hot tub controls should be easier to locate (they’re behind a bush so big I’ve seen it in an adult film from the 70s). And they need to be easier to read in the dark. It was trial and error, pressing the buttons while my wife sat in the tub. So many buttons, like a blender. I was afraid one of the buttons might be purée. SORRY, hon!
NOW FOR THE NON-​CONS (PROS):
#1: The incredible outdoor shower pressure is set to «1965 Watts Riot». You can wipe off sand. You can also shred a head of cabbage, too, if you want to make some cole slaw. I’m pretty sure Michael Jackson used this shower to become white.
#2: Location to the beach. You walk ACROSS THE STREET to the stairs that lead directly to the surf. It’s not just «steps to the beach». It is «steps to the steps to the beach.» And because it’s below the cliffs you don’t get the people noise, just the roar of the waves.
#3: Location to the village. Lots of bars and restaurants a short walk away. See my reviews on Norte, Boar’s Crossing, Knockout Pizza, Coyote Grill, Naked Café, Las Olas, Village Pub, the Compass, Vigilucci’s, Casa de Bandini, Pedego Carlsbad & Golden Tee. Do not see my review on Koko Beach (it was taken down for being too mean) or Charlie’s Tacos and Tampons. (horrible kotex-​mex)
#4: The customer service is incredible. I must assume that the one-​star reviewers were exaggerating or lying or mad ex-​girlfriends, but our service was great. Tina and Miles and Barry were friendly, informative, and funny. Miles gave me recommendations on pizza places, offered to personally show me how to turn on the hot tub so I wouldn’t NutriBullet someone, and lent us boogie boards and chairs without making me sign anything or leave a deposit, license, or room #.
Oh, that reminds me: Write me if you are interested in buying a gently used beach chair and boogie board.
#5: The grounds are super lush, clean, and cool. Plus, the rectangular block-​side grounds and properly lit paths make it easy to navigate past the different style rooms with outdoor ceiling fans and outdoor BBQ grills, with secure back gates that lead to parking or the village, and a cozy feel with nothing higher than a two-​story. The center has a gas fireplace and fire pits for chilling out (or unchilling out) to the sounds of the waves. And, I’ll give you a nickel if you can pet that stray cat that hangs out there.
#6: The pool and hot tub change colors, from pink to red to dark blue, purple, light green, dark green, yellow, orange to pink again. That might not seem monumental, but it was cool. I felt like I was in Puff Daddy’s hot tub. And, despite initial concerns, I did not come out looking like an Easter egg.
However, I urinated later that night and my pee was PLAID.
#7: Parking. Two reviewers complained about parking? Sure, there are only 7 or so spots in the lobby area, but the entire perimeter of the rectangular grounds is made up of parking spaces with 24 hour parking and back entrances. I think maybe these whiners were hoping to park IN their room?
#8: The lobby store. OK, no «Tums or milk» like one reviewer said (great party, lady) but everything is easy and rounded off– no crazy resort mark-​ups, no tax, no receipts or lines. Bottle of water? A dollar. Sunscreen? 2 dollars. Ice? Free. Nice ice, baby.
#9: Free fruit, danishes, donuts or cookies. All day. Not just in the morning. And they had the good kind out there– you aren’t just stuck with Raisin. Stupid raisin.
#10: Free use of boogie boards and chairs. First come, first serve.
#11: Free wi-​fi*
#12: Full kitchen, even in cheapest room.
#13: Air conditioning!
#14: No attendants to avoid tipping for towels or pool chairs.
And, most importantly, we like the value. The same price in a place like Santa Barbara puts you in something dirty, further from the beach, with no a/​c. (See my Fiesta Inn review)
Whether you get a deluxe room or not, they are roomy, functional, clean, temperature controlled, and quiet, with an ipod dock alarm clock and big comfortable bed.
I’d give it more stars if I could. I don’t understand the few bad reviews. The staff is great, and I cannot imagine them not taking care of a broken air conditioner or any thing else, seriously. I mean, I had the feeling they’d help me start peel an orange or help me with my homework. As for «no maid service», some days we see more maids than guests. At one point I thought it was a maid convention. Yes, the shower door was small, but who gives a shit? Maybe that person was pissed that she couldn’t get her mobility scooter in.
