Set in Stone

Man, if things were not bad enough! Just as I figured, the plywood panels on the new doors are cracking apart, and my middle island is falling apart. I take care of my stuff so it has not been abused, there are no children in this house banging things around. Shabby workmanship all around! It has been less than two years and my wife already wants to re-​do the kitchen!!! NOT GOOD!

Jeff Lenhof of Set in Stone was my contractor for my remodel of kitchen cabinets, lights and popcorn ceiling removal. I give 3 stars as an average of overall work. An A+ for the kitchen and lights. An «F» for the attempt at the ceiling. They started in April 2014, finished in July 2014. Much of the delay was the due to my cabinet company’s errors and reorders (no fault of Set in Stone). The cabinets, granite counter tops, and lighting (recessed ceiling pot lights, over/​under/​and interior cabinet lights) were all done quite well. Today, I still walk into my kitchen and its puts a smile on my face. I am very happy with the increase in function and aesthetics. Set in Stone’s «build-​skills» with the cabinets, counters and lights were spot on here. However… the ceilings were another story. I am still wondering if, or how they masked the rooms to scrape the popcorn. I found (and still find) popcorn crap behind furniture. The texture was called orange peel, which was so thick and bumpy that I had 2 people ask me (after removal and new texture applied) when I was having the «popcorn» removed? They use rollers for the paint which left noticeable roller marks everywhere. There were noticeable outlines at the areas where a wall was removed and the old light fixtures. They tried to correct the problem areas to no avail, but I am a type A and knew that I needed to go elsewhere at that point on the ceilings. I hired a ceiling contractor to float a new plaster surface and repaint over their work. I did not ask for any refund, as I had quite a few «change orders» that I felt Jeff was more than fair about, and did that work at no extra charge. We implemented a concept in interior cab LED light strips on the interior side walls to vertically light each wood shelf area, and it worked quite well. I did let Jeff know that I was still very pleased with the kitchen remodel, his granite work and lights I was also truthful about being equally DISPLEASED with the ceiling work. I felt ceilings and textures were not his forte and suggested that he subcontract that work out in the future. His reply was, «I value your thoughts! If you ever need anything in the future, I would be happy to help and give me a chance to make up for the ceiling! I told him I need a couple of patio covers built and for him to make me a «make up» offer that I can’t refuse. I am saddened to report that I have not received any reply from him after emailing him my plans… TWICE … in Sept 2014.

The Set in Stone crew recently installed a new travertine floor downstairs in our Leucadia home. We could not be more pleased with the finished product or the service we received from the owner, Jeff, and his crew. From our first contact, Jeff, was both personable and professional. He listened to our needs, made excellent suggestions, kept to the timeline and made the job almost stress less on our side. His crew showed up on schedule and came thru with excellent results. Jeff was very hands on and made sure we were stoked with the finished product. We would not hesitate to use Set in Stone again and would recommended Jeff and his guys to anyone interested in quality results from a quality company. Thanks Jeff.

Jeff of Set in Stone just finished installing new granite countertops and a tile backsplash in our kitchen. Everything looks beautiful. Jeff helped us the whole way through the process. He met us at the slab yard to help us decide on the granite slabs and the tile for the backsplash. He gave us a timeline and he stuck to it. The work was all done quickly and professionally. We selected a leather finish granite and were very worried about the seams on the edges. We are extremely happy with how they turned out. They are virtually invisible as we hoped. The whole experience was good. No hassles encountered. Completely painless! We would definitely hire Set in Stone again and will be recommending Jeff to our friends. Glad we chose him.
